Yikes. So, usually this place is decent. It's not phenomenal, but for the area, it's usually okay. I've only been here maybe 10 times total. Today though, poor customer service. Got a simple order of two small orders of ice cream and cheese fries. The one ice cream was to be in a cone and the cone immediately had a hole in the middle of it. Looked like someone's thumb went through the cone and they tried to cover it up with a napkin. As soon as we sat down it broke all over my girlfriend and fell on the table. We went up and asked for a cup and told the worker what happened and she just handed over the cup. No apology or compensation. Usually when I eat here, the ice cream (if they have the flavor I want) 50% of the time tastes freezer burnt. Usually in the beginning of the season it doesn't though, so today it was good. Today the fries? Yowza...all I tasted was very old oil with some salt and canned cheese. Which the cheese was expected from a small town mediocre ice stand. They do have a large variety of flavors, but most of the time I have to change my order due to the lack of inventory. Good food, great customer service, and all-around awesome experience! Our family of 4 (+dog) stopped here on a Wednesday night during a cross-country road trip, and we all left feeling happy and satisfied. The food was good, the ice cream was better. I had a footlong chili cheese dog and some popcorn shrimp, which were fried nicely. Our family also liked the spinach salad with bacon and fresh berries, the patty melt, the meatball hoagie, and the macaroni bites. The 5-scoop sampler of 5 "mini" scoops was VERY generous in portion size--definitely could be shared among 2+ people. As an avid ice cream afficianado, I was a little sad I couldn't finish it all by myself, but the flavors I chose were all excellent. The dog liked his Grizz sundae too. The staff were all very friendly and polite. The wait time for the food was reasonable, and our order was correct. At the moment, they are only serving food + ice cream during the weekdays, and closing is 8pm. On weekends they only serve ice cream. There is outdoor seating, and they also have a drive-through. We were the only ones there for dinner around 7:30, but we did see 3-4 cars using the drive-through while we were there. One thing that is pretty unique here, which I think might be a regional thing, is an ice cream flavor called Teaberry. When you are on a long road trip it's so tempting to stop at the nearest drive thru to get predictable food fast. Today my travel buddy took a chance and stopped here. AHMAZING. Even the playlist is spectacular. The chili on the dog is slightly sweet with a nice smoky bite. The pizza burger helped my buddy "achieve nirvana." It was really well seasoned with a hint of Italian sausage - topped with marinara, pepperoni and provolone. The fries were good and the soda had free refills. DO NOT pass this place up!! read more

Do not order the fish basket ! No fish in breading! The fish was less than a 1/4 inch thick and looked like the skin of a fish. When I brought it to their attention, a nice young lady said it looks like there is fish in it and because I partially ate it they could not do anything about it. Over the Top was a fun place to go with friends when I was in high school. I remember the food being good (I usually got a grilled cheese) and the ice cream being really good. I recently visited DuBois and figured it was a good place to stop for food since it is all outdoor seating. I got a hoagie, it would've been top-notch if it wasn't so dry. My fiance got chicken tenders that came out pretty embarrassingly. They were tiny and chewy and looked way overcooked. Their appetizers are pretty good though, my friend who went with us got their zucchini sticks and those were quite satisfying. Our meals did come with freshly made chips that were delicious though! We both finished our chips over our other foods. Service is always wonderful and the workers are very friendly and accomodating. I think I'd definitely go back, but probably stick to appetizers/sides and ice cream. read more

A true paradox. I went here after reading the reviews for the fresh French fries. I love fries and have had lunches that were only an extra large order of fries. These didn't come close. Maybe you have to go at a special time to get them fresh. Half of what I got were cold and soggy and half were warm but not crispy. Ate the first one while leaving the parking lot so they hadn't gotten cold in 30 seconds. The paradox came with the steak sandwich. They used real steak, with sautéed onions and they added enough toppings (lettuce tomatoes and banana peppers ) to be like a steak salad. Wow.. well first time getting lunch from this place ... large order for an office in my order I didn't get my drink and they magically couldn't refund my card even though they took the money off my card so I have to drive from brockway to Dubois to pick up the couple dollars for my drink and waste gas so I'm only doing it out of principle at this point... also when we picked Dupont our order we were told we really inconvenienced them ... had there girl tied up on the phone for 20 mins and now to get everything through.. lol no buggy there won't be another order from us and it was over 100 dollars your loss plenty of other restaurants to choose from read more

TL;DR Version: + Delicious, fresh food! + Real, fresh ground beef burgers! + Everything is made to order on the spot! + Fresh cut fries had great flavor, crispiness, and were not gross and slimy with grease! + Prices are probably the best value-per-dollar in Dubois. - Long wait time, so call ahead if you are in a rush. Well worth the wait for freshly made food though. I was under the impression that Over the Top only sells ice cream. I've lived in Dubois for almost three years now and never once thought to stop here for food, even though the sign on the front of the building says "Food and Ice Cream". It just never struck me that they would have REAL food, let alone GOOD food. Tonight, after realizing our BBQ options were all closed, my partner and I decided to come here and give it a try after reading a review on Yelp. My partner has lived here is entire 28 years and also never thought to come here for food. We could not be more pleasantly surprised. The food was DELICIOUS. We both got double burgers. Each burger patty is a 1/3 pound patty. He got a double bacon burger with I think just lettuce on it. The lettuce seemed fresh I suppose. They really layered the bacon on it, too. I decided to go with a normal double cheeseburger because most places don't put enough bacon on to make it worth while. I regret that decision. The biggest shock though, was the meat. It is really fresh ground beef. It tasted so good that I was actually taken a-back at first. We are both pretty sure that they get their meat from the local butcher, it's that good. There was three youngish girls working tonight, probably 21 and under, which had me a little worried that they would mess up the food. Again, complete shock took over when the burgers came out ALL perfectly cooked. They were still hot and juicy and really grilled perfect. The burger meals all come with home-made chips, or for an extra dollar you can opt for fresh-cut fries. We both opted for the fries. Even the fries were probably the best fresh-cut fries in Dubois. They taste like pretty much all fresh-cut taste, but they were not dripping and slimy with grease. They were crispy and I believe they use sea-salt to season them. You get a pretty generous helping of fries, too. We did not try the ice cream tonight just because it was pretty chilly out, but I'm sure it is fine as far as ice cream goes. If/when I get some, I will update the review. The -only- negative aspect that I can think of is that it took a bit of time for our food to get ready. When we first arrived, there was only one person in front of us and one group behind us. After the 15 minute-ish wait there was a couple more groups either waiting in line or at the drive through. With that said, they were very efficient at taking care of the other customers while our food cooked. So if you are in a hurry, definitely call your order in ahead of time. If you have time to have a seat and relax though, I definitely recommend it. There is 6(?) basic plastic benches and one big patio table with cushioned patio chairs. It's also in a fairly quiet part of town. The price was very fair as well, especially for the quality of the food. I believe a burger is right around $6 for a single patty (remember, 1/3 pound!) and an extra dollar to opt for the fries over the chips. A drink (with free refills!) is $1.50, and they have basic Coke products. Overall I am incredibly satisfied with my first visit here and definitely plan on making this a regular stop for lunch and dinner. I am just disappointed that I never gave it a try before. read more

It is local owner operated with lots of pride. Worth getting off the interstate for a non-chain drive-in food. Will stop again if we are on Interstate 80. read more
