I made an appointment a few weeks ago for 4pm and when I got there they told me to just wait outside. That totally fine, no problem. I am usually very patient and understanding when it comes to waiting, but when I am left waiting for over thirty minutes that's when I get a little frustrated. My main issue is that the man at the desk paid no mind on communicating with me, did not look at me once. Usually places will let you know that they might be a little behind, or even apologize for the delay. I waisted my time going there. I have twin boys that just turned a year old this past weekend. I asked my barber if he could cut their hair for the first time and he recommended us going to a child-friendly salon for their first cut. My wife found this place. One of the haircuts was done by a younger lady came out good; even cuts, straight neck line, clean around the ears. The other twins cut was done by an older lady. The cut came out choppy and completely uneven. Oh! And she started off with a pair of scissors and finished with the clippers, so he has a nice little spot that is shorter than the rest of his head. I paid 22 dollars each. EACH. I'm a full grown adult and I pay 20 bucks for a cut including tip. My fault for not looking at the price list directly in front of the shop, though. Won't be coming back, but it's a good way to see how your kid reacts to getting their haircut. Plus they give you a picture and a lock of their hair for keepsake. read more

The customer service was good. I called and made a appointment and we waited an extra 30 minutes because the person who was going to cut my sons hair took a longer lunch than she was supposed too. I felt like his hair cut was rushed. He's 2. He was moving a bit but this wasn't his first haircut. Once we left I noticed it was extremely uneven. I was extremely pleased with the haircut and color I got here. But mostly I was impressed with the service! The reason I came here is because they donated a child's shampoo and cut AND an adult's shampoo, cut, and color to my daughter's school. I won the bid and me and my daughter made an appointment. Suzie was patient and super sweet to my daughter. Silvia colored, cut, and styled my hair perfectly and she was very personable and relaxing. It's a cute place with lots of old school video games for the kids (which they welcome the adults to play as well). They also had a nice supply of magazines and movies for the kids to watch. Definite 5 stars!!! By the way...the prices are really reasonable without the donation. Also, they offer organic dye and some REALLY cool bright colored tinsle for your hair. In the front is a large selection of products to choose from to keep your hair looking good. I used to visit the salon and only know of a few comparable places in San Francisco. They do everything from hair cuts to colors, up-do's and braids. SUPER upset with my recent experience here. I've been to Over the Rainbow for my sons haircut several times and not once have I been disappointed. During my most recent visit a newbie employee cut my sons hair and ended up TOTALy butchering it. She did not do a proper fade and my son ended up with a haircut that looked like a mohawk. Another employee attempted to correct the haircut. Although it looked a little better after she finished (and it was not her fault) the overall look was still terrible. To make matters worse they ruined his hair a day before his birthday party!! I will not be going baCk. I never received an apology. So unfortunate. read more

It was our first time there today and it went beyond well! I used to take my 2.5-year old son to another children's haircut salon, but the last 3 times we were there had all been a nightmare. He would cry his lungs out and would constantly move, so the end result would usually be a semi-botched haircut. Not through the hairdresser's fault, I should mention, but he wasn't cooperative at all. Not to mention, super miserable. It was heartbreaking. So I decided to try a new place in case it helped, but my expectations were very low. I realized that Over The Rainbow was just 5 minutes away from home, so I decided to give it a try. Sure enough, he started crying as soon as he was placed in the little car and he had the cape around his neck, but this time was different. Alma, our hair stylist, helped calm him down very fast, and with the additional help of some TV cartoons and some balloons, my previously un-cooperative toddler sat there patiently and happily for the whole 20 minutes his haircut lasted. I couldn't believe my eyes. I mean, I had brought books and toys along expecting a 'battle'. I was so thrilled that he cooperated so well and he finally got a proper haircut in over a year. Alma was definitely instrumental in this. She talked to him in a very soothing voice, played with him, took her time to make him comfortable -- it was all very relaxed and easy! She also did a great job with his hair. In the end, they gave him a balloon to take home and he was super happy! Thank you for your patience and for making this experience easy and relaxing! I came in again for the second time with my 1 year old son. This time I came in because his Uncle decided to play barber on his hair which left him atrocious. I put the hat over his head and snuck him in....yes his Uncle left his hair looking THAT BAD. I asked for Vanessa. I asked her to work her magic and try to salvage his beautiful locks. She took on the challenge both the hair cut and a crying baby with such grace, patience, and professionalism. She listen to what we asked for, she gave our little guy breaks, distracted him with toys, cookies, and reassuring him that everything is ok. So, this is just my personal preference and has nothing to do with the review grading. I don't prefer places that take appointments only. I am always running around and hate being tied down to a rush to get somewhere, especially with a toddler. That being said, I made an appointment at this place. I scrambled to stick to the schedule, rushed grocery shopping, drove there and the place is dead empty. I'm talking 4 employees and no customers. Nada, zip, zilch. I don't judge a place based on its busyness, but I did wish I didn't rush to make this pressing appointment as if there was a line all day everyday. And it was empty for a good 39 minutes before another customer popped in. ANYWAY; I scheduled a haircut for my son and a trim for me because I might as well kill two birds. $20 haircut for my toddler...pricey but not a big deal. $40 for my trim at a kids salon??? Perhaps for those in the industry that's not much. I even get it when adult "lux" salons charge regular price for a trim because they do everything they would with a regular haircut regarding grooming. I said I didn't want my hair washed, I didn't want it styled, I didn't want it blow dried because I was going home right after. I just wanted my ends trimmed. Uhhh...even doctors don't make $40 for 15-20 minutes of their time. (That's probably not accurate I'm sure they do). IN that 15 minutes the hairstylist mentioned 4 times that my ends were damaged, even pointing it out to another bored employee..after the fourth time I said ....I know; that's why I'm here! I like to maintain them...And just laughed it off because she was obsessed with the obvious..Like duh B! you dont Need to sell me on a cut...I walked in here willingly looking for one! All in all the place was cute, the girls were nice. Professionalism by my stylist was meh. But the price is why I won't go back. I spent over $70 to have a trim and a little boys haircut. Got recommended to this hair salon from a friend assuming I was going to great a superb haircut for my 1 year old son, & instead I was so disappointed with the stylist & the service my son got, I would asume she would take her time, since I made an appointment & she didn't. She cut his hair within minutes, didn't bother to make sure his hair was even. Since my son was in the little car booth they have for the children my son wasn't complicated to work with, he was still for the most part, so I don't know why I got such shitty service, maybe it was just the stylist AND the price was ridiculous, total came out $22 & never got my discount for "first time customer" as they advertise in their website. I've loved this place since I was a little girl. Merav has been the only one to cut my hair since my teens. I trust her, she has good taste. She knows she can always cut more, she can never cut less! She's so gentle and so good at what she does, and I appreciate that. She knows I don't like to wash my hair with hot water so she does it with coolish water, very gentle especially for children. It's a children salon, and my mom and I still come here because of their service. It's professional, and Merav can get anything done, no matter how wild :) I've been coming here since a child and I'll always be back as an adult. I love this place. This place is the best place ever. I been coming here since my son was 2 he is now 4. I am so happy with this place my son has a hard time with getting a hair cut, he doesn't like anyone touching him due to having a sensory issue this place is not so cheap but totally worth it. This place goes above and beyond when it comes to working with my son. Thank you so much because its not just the hair stylist that deals with it all, they all work as a team. The last time I went my son had a bad experience at a different salon and coming back here was a nightmare not because of them but because my son was traumatized from the last hair salon. So I felt bad for them because they had to deal with him screaming, crying and yelling. But they still dealt with him doing all they could. They talked to him, gave him choices and in the end I thought I was going to leave without a haircut but they told me to take him play and he played, I prepared him to get his hair cut and he did it! I took my 2 yr old daughter in for her first hair cut. We just wanted a trim really. The girl was really good with my daughter and asked me what I wanted done however she cut her bangs WAY too short. She asked me if I wanted more cut. Uh, no thanks. It's a friendly environment for kids and I liked the keepsakes, but I went for a haircut. I'll be going elsewhere next time.
