I'd heard & read so much about Outspokin's customer service the past year that I decided a few months ago that if at all possible I would wait until they had something in stock & give them my business. I have been looking for a bike since September. I first met Martin, a superb young man that was incredibly gracious & patient with me helping to decide what I actually needed. I stopped by a couple times when I was in Columbia (I live almost an hour away) & usually spoke with him but on occasion did speak with other reps that were just as gracious. This past Saturday I stopped in & was assisted by Laura. She, like Martin, was enjoyable to be around. The people in this shop treat everyone like family, like you belong there with them. Laura was awesome & spent a lot of time with me making sure I was confident in my investment & that I would be departing with no questions or concerns. I cannot say enough about her. I had a great experience & cannot recommend them enough. Not only to customers, but other business owners as well. You want your customers to feel like me & countless others? Want to know how to properly build a tribe? Go find out how they're doing their hiring, what they're doing to invest in their organizational culture. I wish more businesses were like them. Take all of my money, that way my wife can't have it. Look no one has good customer service anymore, check my reviews if you don't believe me, but this place........., are you guys paid $200 an hour? I called in to ask questions about service and wanted to buy a bike before I left. I literally was going to buy a bike and just deal with the beatdown that my wife was going to give. I don't even know who the freaking sales rep is, I took a "grease monkey" (joking name there to prove a point ) from the service department named Peter, and he was Aaaaaaaamaaaazzzzinnnnggg. We talked about my bike and I realized without him being pushy that I needed an upgrade. We then went over to the bikes for sale and he was exceptional. He didn't rush as they were closing soon, he wasn't pushy, he was informative and helpful and wicked awesome. I was going to buy a bike that same day but am afraid of my wife. I ultimately bought a bike off of FB marketplace and peter told me that Martin would help me get setup to the bike fitting properly. Martin was so fired up and attentive and helpful and patient. What an experience!!! I wish that I would have bought my bike from them and I still may in the near future. Great place.... Ask for Peter, he will not let you down. Amazing customer service and knowledgeable staff. Brought in my sons bike and they fixed it within minutes. Explained everything they were doing along the way and walked me through the process. The bike has never worked better. I'll be back for anything bike related. As far as covid, they require masks and all of the employees wear masks as well. Great local shop. read more

I went here this week to just check the place out. Having been a bike racer when I was a younger person, I just love the smell of a bike shop. The staff was all super nice and greeted me like I was a new friend. I was also asked if I wanted to take a test ride, I simply needed to let them know. Very good! Anyway I did not buy any thing, but I did receive some first hand knowledge about my bike's disc brake system and the pads I would need them the look at when replacements are due. Having read the less favorable reviews I can not comment on the level of service or their technical ability. But I do have a hard time believing they don't know their stuff, so I can only say for myself I will be using them for my needed goods and services relating to my bike. read more

Staff is knowledgeable, didn't really have too many issues other then feeling like a customer and not a friend or fellow bike rider. Service was ok at best, mechanic managed to not make an appointment even though he swore up and down that he would make one so the tune-up would mean that I would be bike-less for fewer days. Didn't happen. I came in to find out that there was no reservation and I would still be stuck without a bike for almost a week. Repairs were done right, decently priced. I found somewhere else that I like better. Probably wont go back unless I have to. read more

Hands down- the only place I will purchase a bike or bike equipment in columbia. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, extremely helpful to both novice and experienced riders. They respect their customers and treat them very well. I came to drop my daughters bike off to get brake repaired. After I got it out of my car I noticed the shop didn't open for another 20 minutes. I almost turned around when an employee opened the door and graciously let me in. Not only did he attend to me despite my error with their hours, he fixed her brakes on the spot and sent me on my way- no charge. He simply said "this is what we do for our customers. Thank you for purchasing this bike from us." Additionally, when each of my children were ready for a bike we brought them to Outspokin. An employee each time took the time to know their names, help them find, size and test ride the bikes until they made their choices. Excellent experiences here as well. The best in town. Great staff, awesome mechanics. I trust my bike maintenance to no other bicycle shop in the area. Never had any problem after getting my bike back from them. I can't say what the experience is like buying a bike from them, so they are getting 4 stars rather than 5 just because of that. I also love their shop dogs. If the dogs are there, always have a wag to greet you when you walk in the door. read more

My wife and I are in our 60s and ride in the neighborhood for exercise and pleasure. We both have Trek Navigator bikes we bought from Outspokin in the past year. I am giving this 4 stars rather than fewer because the owner, Brian, is very helpful and very professional. Some of the other staff (I've interacted with 5 or 6) range from adequate to unacceptable in knowledge, helpfulness, and competence. But Brian bends over backwards to make sure you are satisfied, and their policy of lifetime free service (routine maintenance) on bikes is very valuable. I had to be persistent and assertive to get my new bike adjusted properly (when I took it home the first time, there were only 20lbs of air pressure in both tires, and many other things were out of adjustment). On my third visit back, I got Brian, and he fixed all problems, and even upgraded my chain for no charge. Overall, we have purchased three bikes and many accessories here. Another reason I like Outspokin is they will give you a trade-in allowance for your old bike. The other cycle shop in my area just says you have to sell it on your own (and they do not provide free service). read more

The people working there are nice and helpful, courteous. However the work they do is bad. I brought in a recumbent trike and they put on a new cassette and chain per their recommendation. I didn't really want to but I trusted them, and it was costly. They made a bad estimate on the price because as a trike it needed more chain than they expected. Ok not a problem. So they did the work and I tested it out in the parking lot, immediately experiencing shifting problems as if they hadn't even made the adjustements or done it properly. So I brought it back in and in order to resolve it I had to call a company in colorado who had done work on the bike previously that knew these types of bikes well and did great work (rockymountainrecumbents in ft. collins). Steve walked me thru the adjustments and I was able to have the Outspokin' bike technician make the adjustments. When I got home, I got in my bike and found the gears slipped in low gears, made bad noises and it was difficult to get into the high 'natural' gears (this is irrespective of the internal hub gearing (sram dual drive) - has nothing to do with it). When I did get into the high gear it was making really loud awful noise as if the chain was hitting the sprockets incorrectly, indicating a maladjustment that I can't fix without a fully loaded set of bike mechanic tools. I feel that if I kept riding this bike right out of their shop, it would damage it beyond repair, and I'm right about that because I do know a thing or two about bikes but I'm travelling and don't have all my stuff with me, hence: bike shop. So I'm taking it elsewhere that deals with recuments. I am guessing that their excuse at Outspokin' is that 'well it's a recumbent bike we've never worked on before' but mind you, this bike has the exact same mechanics as an upright, only the chain is longer and it has a free spinning idler that does nothing but make the longer chain a U-shape by directing the chain to the rear. read more

My bike had a bent derailer, so I brought it to Ouspoken'bicycles on Devine St in Columbia. Peter took a look at the bike rightaway, was able to repair it. He charged me a very reasonable fee and I was on my way. Thanks Peter!! read more

This place regularly wins the Columbia Free TImes Best Bike Shop award. I suppose this is appropriate as there are no better bike shops around. It's less a testament to the excellence of Outspokin' than to the lack of a truly awesome bike store in town. Still, their mechanics do decent work and they've got some nice bikes. read more

I have visited this store several times in the last few weeks, as I'm just getting back on my bike after several years of not riding much. Melodie, Martin, and Matt were friendly and quick to answer my questions. Krystal made sure I was added to an email list of information about group rides. In an effort to update/improve my bike, and stay within a fixed budget; I wanted to add aerobars. A problem surfaced with the size of the handlebars, and Krystal contacted me by phone and offered to work out a solution that helped me stay within my budget. She spent over an hour and a half with me making sure the accessories fit correctly. I truly appreciated her effort to be sure I was comfortable with the new equipment. The shop offers items in a range of prices--items for a recreational rider (like me) to an elite rider with high-end components. read more

The people at this bicycle shop are absolutely amazing! They have been nothing but good to me and help me repeatedly for stupid mistakes I've made and causation of other cars on the road. They are super friendly and really really interesting. I advise everyone goes to this bicycle shop! It's the only bicycle shop in Columbia worth going to. read more

Some of the reviews on here I completely understand... The staff isn't quite as knowledgeable as I'd hoped but I ended up getting Brian involved (not knowing he was the owner at the time) and he was phenomenal! Really knows his stuff and relates well to the consumer. I purchased a mountain bike through them and the only addition I wanted to make was the bar end. I saw a bike in the store that had an awesome ergo grip and knew I had to have one! He checked into getting them for me only to find they had been discontinued. The bike that had the bar ends was actually his bike and he gave them to me outright! Can't beat that customer appreciation and satisfaction! I am eager to continue my relationship with them going forward and will be checking into an upgrade for my wife as well. There are a lot of great bike shops in the area but this one has earned my vote! They truly care about the consumer rather than the sale! read more
