We're from NY and attended a family reunion in Kill Devil Hills. We knew we wanted to host a clam bake, but had no idea how to make it happen. I did quite a bit of research online and discovered Outer Banks Clam Bakes. From our first encounter, Doug and Petya were delightful to work with. They answered all of my questions, gave me options that I hadn't thought of, gave me advice that actually reduced the cost of the dinner per person, and generally instilled a sense of confidence that assured me the dinner would be a success.
A couple of months before the event, I placed the order for a clambake for 30. Within 24 hours, I received a call from Doug, asking for more specifics, giving us additional advice and confirming our choice of date and time. He told me that they would contact us a week before the dinner. And, sure enough, exactly a week before our event, we heard from Petya. At this time, she asked if there was anyone in the group that had food allergies so that they could be accommodated. She also told me which staff members would be arriving at our vacation home.
The day of the party arrived and we didn't have to do a thing. Doug, Petya and another team member showed up with coolers full of lobster tails, crab legs, mussels, clams, shrimp, potatoes, sausage, corn, salad and biscuits. Absolutely everything was fresh and prepared in our kitchen - right down to cutting up the potatoes and baking the biscuits! They even set the tables for us! The food was amazing - absolutely delicious, perfectly prepared and plentiful. I've never seen so many crab legs in one place before and the shrimp were enormous! We had a very hungry crew, but there was still enough food remaining so that many of us had it for lunch the next day. Dessert was peach foster - which was individually prepared for each guest, and only when they had finished their meal. And, after dinner, they cleared the tables, cleaned up the kitchen, loaded the dishwashers and left the kitchen and dining area spotless.
It wasn't until the end of the evening when it occurred to me that Petya had told me that a different team was going to arrive that evening. She shared that the team lead had called in sick that morning. I then learned that Doug and Petya were 5 hours away from the Outer Banks when they were notified. They cut their trip short, and made the 5 hour trip back so that they could ensure our evening was a success. They are warm, friendly, kind and thoughtful individuals who went above and beyond...
I can't say enough good things about Outer Banks Clam Bakes and would wholeheartedly recommend them for any event you may be planning. We can't wait to go back to OBX so that we can do it again! It was a truly wonderful experience from start to finish! read more
