This review only relates to people looking for hiking or walking gear, as I've not been a shopper for cycling or ski-ing items. Unfortunately, it appears that Outdoor Traders have moved to concentrating pretty much on the ski and bike side of things. I'd had a great fitting for hiking boots with them three years ago and decided to go back to buy a new pair.
Firstly, don't go by what has been on their website that the hiking/walking boot shop is in East St. Helen's Street. Unless you want an impromptu haircut at the Sean Anthony salon that is now there.
Second of all; the range of, mostly on sale, hiking boots and shoes which are in the main shop now is absolutely tiny. Including three pairs of walking sandals and two children's sizes, there were a total of 16 pairs in stock.
Finally, the customer service has taken a bit of a hit too. I was asked if I wanted any help by the person manning the front of the shop, but on asking about walking/hiking shoes said; "we don't have many", pointed me in the direction of where they were and left me to it. I can sympathise, and understand, that someone has to be present right at the front to assist other customers (and maintain shop security), but the entire lack of interest in offering any further help was startling given my previous experience.
In essence, if you're only looking for walking or hiking gear, then I'd suggest looking elsewhere if you want a professional fitting service and a wide-range of available options. read more
