I went in yesterday to source a pair of spare combats for a Cadet course I was doing, I'd previously bought a pair several years prior but had outgrown them. Last time I paid £20 for a shirt, £20 for trousers, and £40 for a smock.
This was four of five years back, but I went in today expecting to pay similar prices, if not less, due to DPM gear now being outdated and all stores clearing stock for the newer current issue MTP.
I was, lets say, pounced upon as soon as I entered by a very high pressure salesperson, asking what I was looking for, what sizes, etc, who wouldn't leave my side when I replied I was just browsing. Made me feel very uncomfortable.
When I saw the prices, I nearly had a heart attack. £45 for a Shirt, £55 for trousers, and, sit down before you read this, £155 for a 'SAS/PARA Smock'
The exact items I'd purchased last time. When it got taken to the till to be rung up, it was £255 for THREE items.
It was at this point, I decided my dignity was more important than spare combats, and walked out.
To put this in perspective, this is outdated equipment, that is being sold as a set, brand new, for £74.99 from a well known online retailer, who W.S supplies is probably buying the kit from in the first place.
I understand retail stores have to charge a premium over online retailers, due to higher overheads, and it's a premium we're all willing to pay to be able to physically see the clothes, try them on, engage with people willing to help. But this is just a rip off.
Absolutely disgusted. The customer service is awful, the sales technique is pushy and pressured, the prices are ridiculously over inflated, which is probably why the prices have to remain high, because they seem to be hemorrhaging customers.
I'll never cross their threshold again, and I'll be advising everyone else to stay away. read more
