Expect fantastic sunsets, rare birds, crashing waves, abundant shells and their collectors, and the best part - DOGS EVERYWHERE!! We have dogs, so it was great for our family to hang together, on the beach, WITH OUR DOGS! And the other guests brought dogs too! So it's like a dog party on the beach! Sanibel is very serious about the Rules Of The Island, so all dogs must be leashed at all times, and you must pick up after your dog - and that is it for the rules man! Oww, dog party on the beach!! Just kidding, there are more rules than that. But it was so great to stay at these lovely little cottages with all the amenities, cable, a free bikes to borrow, beach chairs, and a pool, RIGHT on the Gulf! Love!!

5 stars for a solid rental company…read more My wife's family likes to check out various parts of Florida each summer. We all decided it would be fun to check out Sanibel Island during our last trip. However, we found it was difficult to find rental properties in the right location (near the beach) for the right price for our timeframe (an entire week). Fortunately, we came across Island Vacations of Sanibel & Captiva. They were able to set us up in a nice little house on Gulf Drive right off of Periwinkle. It was less than a block away from a fantastic ice cream shop (Pinocchio's) and a short walk to beaches on both sides of the island. The house itself was very nice. It was kept in very good shape, included lots of instructions and helpful guides for the area and included a shed full of fun beach toys! Everything in the house was convenient and worked well, which made it easier to focus on having a good time during our trip. Overall, Island Vacations on Sanibel and Captiva provides a solid rental property option. While the property wasn't a mansion, the great location, cleanliness, small perks and great price make this a great option for people who are looking to visit the island.

It has a single bedroom with a queen bed, a living area, kitchen, and bathroom. The kitchen had all the necessary equipment so we were able to eat in and save a lot of money on our trip. The decor is beachy and welcoming. Mark paints and did a lot of the artwork in the cottage. I can still remember the koi picture in the bedroom. Very nice touch! There is a private gazebo out back that overlooks the pond. There were many birds, turtles, and a small alligator in the pond, though the alligator left after a couple of days. There was a cardinal bird that came to the sliding glass door every morning and would tap on it with his beak. There is a grill out back by the gazebo, laundry on-site, books that they have available to borrow, and a shell washing station. There are also bikes that are available to borrow so you can bike around the island. There is private beach access at the end of the block. Sanibel is famous for its shelling and the beach at the end of the street by far had the best shells we found on the island. You get a card so you can park your car at the end, but it's so close you can just walk down there. It's quiet, clean, and was the perfect place for us to stay. Thank you, Mark and Kathy! But, sadly the roaches are more responsive than the management/staff. After 2 emails and no response. The location is phenomenal but the actual conditions of the "Gardenia Suite" were very poor. The bathroom had signs of mold and mildew, corners of the bathroom were deteriorated due to moisture and soft and plaster was falling. The actual shower had a mix of grout that had broken off and sand from a prior guest. Every morning, I'd be greeted with a roach in the common area/kitchen. I can understand being close to the beach and pests can be an issue but over a short weekend stay, it was about 5-6 roaches that I had to dispose of. Location was amazing but the actual inn was disappointing.

We had a very comfortable King bed and there was a pull-out couch for the kids. We also had a kitchenette area and fold out table. The property manager, Ron was so accommodating. When hearing we were going to the beach, he loaded us up with toys, shell nets and even a fishing pole, something we forgot while packing. The parking can be tight if you have a big car, but not impossible. We had a van and we're parked by a big truck and some SUV's and all was well. The Inn is also by Huxter's Market and a few restaurants, and a short walk from two beaches. I would recommend Palmview Inn to anyone looking for a relaxing few days at a low key place.

Since it was done through Expedia, they told us we had to go through them. Expedia enforced the penalty. After several back and forth messages, they sent this: ....obviously you are one of the individuals that have not clearly handled the conditions very well.... we have been initiated with cancellations which were way easier to handle then yours. you may now move on..... Have to say, we were not impressed with the tone and lack of customer service.

Windward Passage Resort: Ardent Sunsets…read more Fifty-five years ago, as young educators, my wife and I selected Ft. Meyers beach as a holiday destination during the Christmas break. We enjoyed the Christmas holidays with our parents and relatives and drove south to Ft. Meyers Beach Holiday Inn for a week of sun, and the salty beaches and the Gulf of Mexico. I recall that we made this excursion in our new 1968 Camaro that did not have power steering, power anything, airbags, or a GPS system. And we endured/enjoyed the drive. What were we thinking? Holiday Inn and a road-trip to Florida? This was to be the last holiday taken in this fashion. We soon realized that our lifestyle provided plenty of holiday time, and we have the resources to fly to U.S. and world-wide destination. Holidays Inns are a vague and very distance memory. I tend to be a linear thinker concerning attendance at national conferences and in terms of planning holidays. We seem to have a queue of airline tickets and timeshare reservations. The vital holiday planning is for spring break. Within weeks of the last spring break, we are trading for next year's spring break, and we are finding airline tickets as soon as the airlines post the routes. There are too many reasons to purchase a two-bedroom condo, and our stable is filled with ten two-bedroom timeshares. However, we traded years ago into Windward Passage Resort (418 Estero Boulevard Fort Myers Beach, FL 33931 239-463-1194) on the quiet north section of Ft. Meyers Beach. Ft. Meyers Beach is not Sanibel and Captiva, but for a small fraction of the price, we purchased two weeks of one-bedroom units. There are very few two-bedroom units at this property, and very few two-bedroom units appear on the secondary market. I believe that location is vital; that timeshare ownership should be in geographic areas that one will re-visit; and that timeshare ownership is not an economic investment, but rather a lifestyle investment. Windward Passage Resort also turned out to be an economic investment. We sold the two properties at a profit. Windward Passage Resort is a resort that we greatly enjoyed for several years; all 52 weeks are flex ownership, and we always scheduled the very same unit for two consecutive weeks. Timeshare owners know the advantage of making these arrangements: no refrigerator transfer of food, no kitchen transfer, no bathroom transfers, and no clothing or luggage transfer. Windward Passage Resort has a great swimming pool on the south side; we always arranged to reserve our units on the north side with a beach view rather than a view of children playing about the pool. Some years, we found profit in renting the unit, and these ocean and beach front one-bedroom units traded into five star and two-bedroom units with a degree of ease. All 53 week are red weeks at Windward Passage Resort. My wife and I are avid tennis fans, and Windward Passage Resort, and the tennis courts are one story high on the roof of the parking lot. This is a unique and clever arrangement, and one which discourages ball retrieval. The photographs (while limited) on the Interval international Website do not provide justice to this gem of a property. Ft. Meyers is the archetypical Florida "snowbird city." The hordes come in November and depart in April. This means that often the bridge from Ft. Meyers to Ft. Meyers Beach is in gridlock. This is not the case in the summer months. We fly to the Ft. Meyers airport, pick up a Hertz number 1 automobile and drive the 18-22 miles to Windward Passage Resort in about 30 minutes. During the "snowbird months" allow at least an hour for the same trip. I posted this review on the Web several years ago: "Outstanding small resort located between city pier and city park. Although small rooms, the veranda provides an outstanding Gulf view. Summers are hot and humid, and good vacation times. Winters can generate fierce traffic problems. Hurricanes have done their worst to this property, and it has always bounced back. Ideal for small families. Great staff." The following post is representative as a summary of Many Web posts: "A unique, intimate Resort in a great beach location. Socials include Ice Cream Day, Pancake Day, Hot Dog, Burger Day & free coffee any day. A user-friendly quiet Resort with heated pool and complimentary beach chairs. Bring your own beach towels as they are not supplied and minimum toilet tissue or you can purchase additional rolls. Not far near the end of N. Ft. Myers Beach is the fabulous Pine Shell Resort for a tropical drink or meal and several quality island restaurants." The absolute best part of the day is at sunset. People flock to the beach in an almost religious manner to silently observe the ardent red ball of sun "descend into the ocean" or into a thin layer of clouds that provide a hue of red and pink for a 30-minute afterglow following sunset.

The pool only had about 5 tables, which were filled by 7 AM every morning. Take away some lounge chairs and put in tables. Not difficult to remedy. All of the activities were volunteer based?!?! What!? I have been to 30 different timeshares, and this was a first. I asked if they had a place where we could donate our leftover, unopened food to a food shelf, and they looked at us like we were insane. They said the staff takes them. The ocean was nice and warm, but very murky, which wasn't their fault of course. The fan in the main room did not work and lots of vent slats were missing from the AC registers. Fort Myers Beach is a wonderful place, but I think I would stay somewhere else. They have taken themselves for granted.

It was great to see dishwasher pods, dishwashing liquid, and laundry detergent sitting out for us to use. The kitchen is fully stocked with any dishes or cookware you could possibly need. There are also pool towels above the washing machine and extra blankets in the linen closet. The pool is well-maintained and there is plenty of seating on the deck. There are a couple gas grills on either side of the resort that are open for guests to use. The location is great as well! It's far enough from the downtown-ish area to have a bit of privacy, but not too far that you feel out of the loop. You can borrow a couple bicycles for free from the front desk in order to go explore shops and restaurants. What I especially love is the access to the beach. If you walk out of the resort toward the crosswalk and cross the street, there is a small path that takes you out toward the ocean. The clientele is very diverse in age, but overall Tropical Sands is a very family friendly resort. On the side of the building there are pool and beach toys that are free for guests to borrow. If you are on the bottom floor of the resort, the door handle of the screened-in porch is high enough that little kids probably won't be able to reach it and escape. (But you should still keep an eye on those kiddos!) It is important to note that there is no lifeguard on duty. The pool is six feet deep at the deepest point and three feet deep at the most shallow end. If you have kids, it's best not to leave them unattended. There is also a hot tub and a couple outdoor showers. Overall, I highly recommend this resort!

The biggest bonus of Tropical Sands Resort is their location. Second, there is beach access right across the street that leads you onto a beautiful lagoon and bird sanctuary where you can witness all kinds of great wildlife in action, and a short walk later you are able to kick back on the beach.
