Rainbow after a sun shower

We have loved our weekend at the Island Inn. The room has a screened porch with an amazing view of the Gulf of America from the third floor. The room has nice furniture and comfortable. The bathroom is nicely done with separate shower & commode room and double sinks. We like having a kitchen to keep all our drinks, breakfast & lunch items. We loved the bicycle trails on the island. June was a great time to visit with the winter tourist season over. We enjoyed the complimentary lounge chairs & umbrellas at the beach each day. Watched the sunset our last night.

A few shells found on the beach

Very good beach for shelling. We had one stormy night which brought out a lot of shells. We had a room with an ocean view and only about 60 feet from the beach. We had a two queen bed foom with a fridge, sink, and microwave. The place looks like it has been remodeled recently. With a screened in porch, we came back from the beach and left our sandy shoes there. The pool is not huge but it is kept at a comfortable temperature year around. They have a person who teaches you about shells and shows you how to find them. (Beginners class) which is free. If you are interested in a beach wedding, they have a person who will work with you on the planning. All of the staff are helpful and made our stay enjoyable.

Quiet, clean, a slice of peace with a beach to match. Thank you for a quiet night and a peaceful day. I had a perfect day here.

We were so happy with our stay. Everyone was so accommodating; from our early check-in, to getting us access to power out cart, and the daily friendly smile of our housekeeper. The room was great, resort has everything we needed and the beach was just serene. Our new happy place. Thank you.

All in all, I liked the Island Inn. It was good, but there are several things that could make it great. Our first room that we were given had an extremely sour smell in it. Initially, because they were all out of the same rooms that we had rented, they were going to charge us to move us. Clearly, that was not an issue that should've been put on us considering they attributed the smell to their cleaners cleaning with dirty mop soap. Eventually, they did rectify that, and not charge us. If you're looking for a place to take your family that is following rigorous COVID-19 precautions, this place would definitely be it. They took mine and my son's temperatures, asked us some simple questions. I did appreciate all of that. So thank you! The beds were very comfortable I must say! They do need to work on stocking their kitchen more appropriately. They didn't even have a pizza cutter, which I think would be a staple when you're traveling. Everybody likes to have that quick meal, especially with kids. The private beach that they have on site, it's not really a beach as in "going to lay out with your family", it's approximately 5 feet of walking space before you hit the ocean, if that. The toilet ran all night long, which eventually ended up being quite an annoyance. As you can see, there are many positive & negatives in my opinion. If they could fix these few things, this place would be phenomenal and I would definitely be back!

I stayed in "Matthew's" cottage September 2020. Great experience. Nice bathrooms, super comfy beds and the air conditioner worked great. (ie) it didn't blow right over the bed etc.). There is a large drop off to get to the kitchen. I didn't have a problem with it, but my friend who has had knee surgery wasn't thrilled, but she restricted in using the kitchen. Inside the cabin, you can see the gulf but you see more of the beachy grounds more. Attached photo is from outside the front door. I found the view to be peaceful and beautiful.

This was my first time visiting Sanibel and I truly think we stayed in the most perfect spot!!! As soon as you pull in the driveway you're immediately inside of an oasis and it stays that way no matter where you are on the property! I like that the Inn offers different types of rooms/cottages/lodges. It's pretty well maintained by the FRIENDLIEST staff who never fail to say good morning or ask you how your stay is. We stayed for 6 days and I wish we could've stayed forever. It's a beautiful place, right on the beach with breathtaking views of the sunset and the ocean is right there!! They have beach chairs and umbrellas to use too. If you wade out a little bit, you'll surely find a million sand dollars! There's a great pool and kayaks and games like shuffleboard and corn hole to play too. Right on sight is the amazing restaurant called Traditions. We are there several times and they have live music nightly. Again, the friendliest staff inside the restaurant and delicious food and drinks. So fun!!

Screen ripped in door to beach

Unfortunately after staying at the Island Inn for a few years, and understanding the rustic history of the inn, and offering suggestions on how to improve I will not be returning. The inn is located on a great stretch of the beach in Sanibel, however the management nor maintenance staff are not keeping up with maintaining the property. The hand rail and exterior of the main building where guests check in is all dirty and badly needs painted, the beach chairs are rusting away and fabric is ripping. Our tub was chipped, and the tub faucet coming out of the wall. And finally our screen door was ripped and deteriorated. These problems along with the addition of no longer offering continental breakfast (blame Covid?) and no pass to Ding Darling, no discount card, and no complimentary cocktail at the bar have earning the Island Inn a one star review. I tried my best to point out things I noticed over the years as I watched the Inn allow its buildings to become run down, and Chris the manager would rather request I stay somewhere else, than make repairs or offer an explanation. As of May 2021 I would suggest you look for other accommodations as well.

Fantastic stay despite the weather. Room and building is brand new. Expensive: 1660.00 for 4 nights but oh so worth it. Front desk very accommodating mostly with the A/c. Private screened area is a must. Can't say enough- go now!

Service impeccable and attentive. Clean room and patio. Beautiful beach outside our room.

Very clean, loved view and steps to beach. Service was fantastic. Great choice for right price.

We stayed in Matthews Lodge for our first time in Sanibel. The suite had everything we needed and we'll stocked. The view was gorgeous. We loved the screened private deck and short walk to the beach. We received a 10% discount card to so many stores and the Captiva Cruise to Useppa Island. We were provided with an informational packet with tote bag so we were able to navigate to all the cool stores, restaurants, museums and Bailey's food market. So nice to have a short walk to the restaurant Traditions on the Beach. Carlo made us our complimentary delicious tropical cocktail. Mike served us with delicious tapas. Paul waited on us with a fabulous dinner. All three men were super friendly and accommodating. Office staff and Ana J our room service employee were so nice and helpful. A nice shell tour is provided with a guide at 9am each day. Covered parking for each guest and elevator provided for the Matthews Lodge. Can't wait to visit again!

Parking is abundant, that includes covered and uncovered parking areas. The pool area is very nice as well with a screened in bar area for drinks, and a hot tub off to the side as well. They also have gas grills available for people that would like to eat in, they aren't the best grills ever but easily get the job done. The resort has 3 "paths" to walk down to the beach which is about a mile and half from the light house. Also the resort office has umbrellas available to rent, a small reading library, and movies available as well. Some things I'm not overly crazy about but they don't really ruin the experience is that the hot tub is way too hot to enjoy if you are there during the summer months. I could see in the winter time it being refreshing but during the summer months they should turn the temperature down on the water. While the resort does have free wifi, the coverage is not very good. Most of the walking paths are gravel so if you are going barefoot you had better toughen up them feet. Overall staying here is a very enjoyable experience and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay while on the island.

We had a very good stay here…read more Our only minor glitches were during the reservation experience prior to coming and at checkout. After getting conflicting prices and confusion regarding one of the packages on the hotel website, I wrote to the general manager. I was subsequently helped by Alba in the reservation center who reached out to me. Frankly, she saved the day. Our check-in with Christie at the front desk was lovely and seamless. Our room was ready so we were able to check in a tad early. Christie gave us our key cards, vouchers, wristbands and car placard and explained all the things we needed to know about our stay. Her pleasing personality made us feel welcome. Our room was in the D section on the 4th floor. The one-bedroom with balcony had a partial gulf view, king size bed, living room/dining room, and full kitchen. The bathroom was modern with a walk in shower. We purchased a package including breakfast. Each morning we headed to the Captains Catch in the main building. The buffet was very good. There was plenty options from which to choose. The omelet/ eggs to order station was a nice addition. The first night, we ate dinner in the Japanese restaurant at the hotel. You need reservations for the hibachi section, but not for their sushi bar/table area. It was very good. (See separate review). We also visited the pool and the hot tub one day. And enjoyed walking along the beach. As we are from Florida, we didn't sit out sunning nor use the rec facilities except one day we stopped by to get towels. We did play a couple games of bingo by the pool, but that's it, and we did have a drink at the tiki bar. Drinks were just okay. Checkout was not the easiest as mentioned above -- after I realized I'd been charged an incorrect amount. Jamie did not handle the situation well. Luckily, I'd saved Alba's contact info so I called her from the checkout/front desk. She verified the correct charges. And an adjustment/credit was made to my credit card billing. Bottom line, this would have been a five star review. And the facility itself deserves that. But after a lovey relaxing mini vacation for my husband's birthday, my treat, I once again had to deal with a glitch that I thought was already resolved. And that's now my last impression.

We, as Hilton Grand Vacation (HGV) members, can travel freely and stay at numerous properties around the country and the world. Hurricane House works with HGV to allow HGV members to use some of its "condos" when the actual owners choose not to use them. That is how we ended up at Hurricane House during the first few days of September 2021. There are 15 units at Hurricane House and we were given one of the two story units (#6). We were aware that this is an older property but Hilton is pretty good about only offering its members quality accommodations. OK....the good first: Check in was a breeze and the exterior of the property was well maintained. Parking was plentiful and close. Each unit has one spot reserved in the first floor covered garage. First impression upon entering was very good. The first floor was a hallway, great room and kitchen. Furniture was comfortable and "beach themed" and very adequate. First floor flooring is all tile. The kitchen is a bit cramped (two people at a time) but well stocked with all you would need to prepare meals. Appliances are modern and very clean. Upstairs has two very large bedrooms with King beds. The "master" is larger with a totally adequate bathroom and lots of closet space. The smaller king bedroom has an extra sleeping space near the window. Upstairs carpeting is quality "waffle" material that is nice looking and easy on the feet. Both bathrooms have skylights that are a nice touch. Everything upstairs was easy on the eyes, clean and nicely decorated. A stacked compact washer and dryer is upstairs in a closet and works quite well. The pool area was small but nicely kept. Pool water was clean but not crystal clean. There were lots of chairs, tables, lounges and two jacuzzies but we didn't use them. The wood walkway to the beach is well maintained and has a shower, sink with running water (not sure what for) and a knee-level water sprayer to de-sand your feet upon returning. The property has a number of "sand chairs" you can take out to the beach and return when you are done. We didn't use the gas grills but there were, I think, three of them that were clean and ready for use. The beach behind the property is not very wide but the sand is clean. No seaweed events while we were there. Bring flip-flops as the sand can get very hot and the beach has many areas with sharp, crunchy areas of shells of all sizes. Now the bad: Both king mattresses were (for us) way too soft; and for me, at least, it affected my sleep. I cannot remember staying in a hotel or vacation property with mattresses this soft. The A/C thermostat is at the bottom of the stairs and cools the downstairs fine. Upstairs was warm. We cranked it down to 70 to try to cool the upstairs at night but it was still too warm for me. As the outside air temperature cooled, by early morning the bedrooms were comfortable. The refrigerator had no ice maker or even ice trays. An obvious inconvenience. For the guys, the most serious problem was the TV. We had planned to watch a number of NCAA football games. Both bedrooms have TVs but we did not use them. All TVs have DVD players (but not Blu-Ray). The living room has an LG flat screen TV of about 40 inches. The TV was older but fine; the cable service is just awful. There was no High Definition (720 or 1080p) service at all. And many people do not realize that Standard Definition (480p) TV looks worse on an HDTV than on an old CRT TV. There were no instructions on what the channel lineup was or how to find it (we eventually did). The TV and the Infinity cable box remotes were odd, old and difficult to figure out. All in all a very old school, unsatisfying experience. The last time I had this problem was in 2007 in Hawaii. Never thought I'd see it again. If you do not plan on watching TV, disregard this part. Overall I'd give our five day experience a C+ rating. Fix the TV, Ice and A/C issues and it would be close to an A.
