This year a big chunk of my family decided to spend Thanksgiving together in Sanibel. "Dog-friendly cottages" is what the website says, but Beachview Cottages are basically a little slice of heaven right on the beach. Expect fantastic sunsets, rare birds, crashing waves, abundant shells and their collectors, and the best part - DOGS EVERYWHERE!! We have dogs, so it was great for our family to hang together, on the beach, WITH OUR DOGS! And the other guests brought dogs too! So it's like a dog party on the beach! Sanibel is very serious about the Rules Of The Island, so all dogs must be leashed at all times, and you must pick up after your dog - and that is it for the rules man! Oww, dog party on the beach!! Just kidding, there are more rules than that. But it was so great to stay at these lovely little cottages with all the amenities, cable, a free bikes to borrow, beach chairs, and a pool, RIGHT on the Gulf! Love!! read more

This is still my favorite place to stay on the island. The rooms have been updated since I stayed many years ago. First this isn't full service. They don't have maid service, but they have towel service. They give you a box to out your dirty towels in and they replace them with clean ones. They have a great beach, we stayed as hurricane Laura was in the gulf. This washed up millions of shells. We travel with our dog and this place is very dog friendly. This was also during the Covid 19 pandemic. The checked us in over the phone and left us an envelope with keys, rules etc in mailbox. They had staff there during normal hours,but you had to call. We have stayed in similar cottages and we always feel these are our favorites. read more

This review has been a long time coming - stayed here a number of times, always unforgettable. Beachview has a lot going for it: hard to not have a good time at Sanibel, shells are different every time we go and there's always a highlight to our stay. This time it was the lack of complaining from our next door neighbors when we decided to host our own private night of karaoke, belting out various lines and choruses from all ilks, 50's Latin classics, 00's regetton, 90's Alanis Morissette... do believe we covered at least 50% of our Colombian friends' 500+ iPod recordings, all with the finest out-of-tune, word-forgetting performance through the wee hours of the morning. And nary a peep from our duplex sharers next door. This says a lot. We even got a thank you email that I was rather afraid to open, and much to our surprise it asked us to come again soon. So this is your classic rustic-style beach lodging cottage with all the expected charm, now (unfortunately) surrounded by boxy semi-high rise condos. It's pretty much right on the beach with no obnoxious road in between. Had a bit of trouble w/our TV when Mr Lalotto and the Colombian clan wanted to watch a pay-per-view Ecuador vs Chile soccer game (please!). The Brazilian guy who swung by in like, 12 minutes to fix it, was a big hit. Sanibel is pricey, and I do believe this is one of the best for your money. They have a pool and bikes for all (neither of which was used on this particular trip, alas, too short to take advantage of all the amenities). Close to "town" yet still far enough away to forget about modern everyday life. Which is generally the point, otherwise one would go to the keys... And here's the best: dog-friendly, $20 a night for your pooches, which is totally worth the grins of glee you'll see on your doggy's face when he or she runs out into the wild blue waters. read more

5 star location, but that's all that it has going for it, other than the kitchen being well equipped. Beach house was a glorified shack, but what really got us was the live cockroach. That's fine, we understand there are cockroaches in Florida, but the service we received when we informed the front desk was appalling. Not even an apology, just hung up on us. It was very difficult to get clean towels daily. Would not go back, would find other beachfront location. Definitely NOT worth the price. read more

This past weekend was our second time visiting Beachview and we brought a few friends. Cottages are clean and comfy, literally ON the beach (ok, we had #9 which was 50 yards from the water). The cabins seem to have been updated recently or are well taken care of. Either way, they're in good shape. The major plus is that they're dog friendly and so is the beach. I think the pet fee was $20 but it's far better than a kennel and your fur kids get to vacation with you. Property is close to "town", restaurants, etc. but not too close. You can drive or bike to restaurants or bars rather quickly. Overall, it's peaceful, quiet and relaxing. Staff is great, very helpful, polite and friendly. We'll definitely be heading back soon. read more

Great little place to stay on Sanibel! Not far from Captiva, very quiet beach area! All of the staff were super helpful, we stayed in unit number one it was perfect for a family. There were four of us, two adults and two children ages five and two as well as our dog. The full kitchen was awesome, the unit was very clean and updated. Can't wait to come back! read more

If this place was any more shabby or tacky, it would be a shack. The do not clean rooms, make beds, or even bring clean towels (unless you ask). Everything is decrepit. Pool has strong chlorine. Rusty beach chairs. read more

This review for Beachview I am basically using for another cottage on Sanibel as well, as they are practically the same and I have stayed in both. That being said, the location of Beachview is good for the more populated area of Sanibel to get to. I stayed at Beachview for a group vacation for a group I'm a member of and I was really disappointed. I wanted to stay close to all the members of the group coming in from other parts of the country. On their website they mentioned a lot of these cottages have been updated, including the unit I stayed in and a few friends in theirs. However, I think if they have been updated, they shouldn't advertise that because it honestly did not feel like it. I wonder how old that update is exactly? The shower in my unit was fairly dirty, the toilet sort of rocked back and forth and in general the craftsmanship was very poorly done throughout. I think the best way to describe it was run down and cheap feeling. Yes, it's right on the beach and yes, it had a full size kitchen, but it just was not good quality. The beds all felt grimy and I wouldn't get under the blankets, some friends were braver than I! I think these cottages along with the other cottages I have stayed in on Sanibel really don't take much pride in their cottages and they know they can get away with it. Sanibel has a lot of old Florida charm and this concept of cottages is a fabulous idea. If these cottages were higher quality and cleaner, it would be amazing, but they are not. The rental rates are sky high to basically stay in a bug friendly shack. And they get away with it because there are not that many places to stay on Sanibel since it's a small island. I really felt like I had been financially rental rate robbed after my stay, as did my friends. You never noticed any staff around the property and no one ever checked in with us to see how are stay was going. Since this stay on Sanibel, now whenever I have friends coming to southwest Florida, I now always refer them to looking for a vacation home instead in Fort Myers or in lower Cape Coral depending on what their plans for the trip are. If they don't want to walk out immediately onto the sand and if they plan to do any shopping or site seeing in Fort Myers or Naples etc. then I say don't stay on Sanibel if you don't mind driving over to it and paying the toll to go shelling. Unless you prefer to stay in one of the nicer hotels. You can stay in a vacation home in the Cape with fully stocked kitchen, private pool and on a canal for half the cost or even lower sometimes than the rental rate on these cottages. Like I said, it's a fabulous concept, but I'd really like to see these cottages replaced or quality updated. Otherwise, if you don't have to be on the island the whole time, you should explore other options and decide what is best for your group. read more

I've been waiting till the day we leave to figure out how many stars I give this place... 2 it is. The 2 only good things about this place is the location and the kitchen... Everything else was old & disappointing. Everything was a cost and then I tried to figure out where the money went to and couldn't figure it out... We ran out of toilet paper, the beds were hard, not enough towels, cost to have a late check out, and the furniture was outdated and dirty... Sanibel is a beautiful island and would love to come back... But not to stay here :( read more

Just stayed here for the 1st time over the Christmas holidays. Absolutely loved it. Very clean with all tile floors, complimentary bikes, and beach chairs. Love the screen porch as well and it is perfectly located a few hundred yards from the beach which has some of the best shelling I've ever experienced. Nice hotel. Our cottage came with a kitchen, bed, couch with pull-out bed, table and lots of room. Hotel provides chairs and pails for the beach, bicycles, washer and dryer ($1 each) and a swimming pool. Very family friendly. read more

If you are looking for a shiny, flashy, and pretentious resort- don't visit the Beachview Cottages! But, if you want peaceful, restful "Old Florida" then this is the place! We found it searching for 'pet friendly' and could not have been happier with our stay! The efficiency we rented was very, very clean and quite comfortable! They even provided doggie do bags and a treat for our fur baby! The tiki style deck right on the beach allowed for excellent sunset viewing; the provided chaise lounges- at no charge- were comfy; and the quiet, uncrowded beach was a slice of paradise! The only cautionary tale I can tell is bring insect repellent--- the no-see-ums can be brutal, but not enough to prevent our return! Oh, and they may be old school but the wifi is free! read more

I've waited until the four day stay we had at Beachview and 2-stars is what I am sticking to. We stayed here because it was "pet-friendly" and it seems that's about all it is. We checked and the owner was very friendly and even came out and spoke to my pup which really meant a lot to us. When we got inside our room the first thing we noticed was a tupper box with two towels, a milk bone, two dog bags, and a sheet all labeled "PET" which was wonderful until we used all those towels and they did not get replaced. In the cottage, more of a in-law suite feel than cottage, there is a tub that you place all dirty towels in and place at the bottom of your stair between 8:00-9:30 am, so we did that thinking that we would get the exact amount of towels back in which we didn't and had to go ask the man for more. While sleeping our first night the a/c started leaking on my head and soaked my pillow, as in the pillow I brought from home not theirs! So the next day we told the man at the front desk and he told us maintanece has already left for the day and they wouldn't be able to fix the issue until the next day and we need to turn the a/c unit off.... That was just miserable because it's hot and humid in Florida and all of that was how the room felt after turning the a/c off until it could be fixed. We had a sleeper sofa and yet we had no bed linens to sleep on it which made no sense. If you come here don't expect to have housekeeping come in and clean or do anything, better yet don't expect much of anything except a bed to sleep in that is full of sand and a shower that is full of sand. You would think that you go on vacation so you don't have to clean but yet me and my mother had to sweep and clean this place everyday of our stay multiple times. We were connected to a very loud and boastrous bunch of smokers who stay out on the deck all night long , which is where our front door and back deck are, and so that kept us awake most of the remainder of our stay which was three more nights and our towels that we had hung outside to dry were full of smoke. Funny how the house rules are to be inside by 9:00 pm and have either blinds closed or lights out to not disturbed your neighbors but our obnoxious neighbors just ignored that! I am very disappointed that we paid as much as we did and feel that we were more or less robbed since nothing was included in the price except the bed we slept in. If able please do not stay here because you do not get much of anything. We stayed at Westwind a couple of months prior to this and it was amazing! Now that was very worth the money but Beachviews supposed update cottages were nothing short than a dump! Could say more but will keep that to myself as some ppl turn a blind eye to management doing illegal drugs when you pull your vehicle under your cottage and that's where they are standing. Just saying. Disappointed! read more

To say that I love this place is not enough. I grew up on Sanibel Island. (I did not know that I had won the lottery...but I now know.) My childhood was filled with moments among the mangroves, beach sunsets, diving pelicans and osprey echoes. It was magical! I no longer live there, however Sanibel remains a magical place. I wanted to give my child this magic moments that I had as a child and Beachview Cottages is a place that continues to create magic moments and allowed my two felled faced daughters to relive the magic moments of the my childhood. We watched the dolphins and pelicans dive for fish from the beachfront!!! We watched the sky become an explosion of beautiful stars as we listened to the waves!!! My oldest freckle face caught her first fish with a hook and a shrimp!!! Magic moments...now magic memories!!! Our accommodations were classic Sanibel...memories from my past making moments in my future!!! Don't miss out on this wonderful place!!! Our hosts were amazing!!! The staff is kind.
