Cold beer. Yummy pizza. Friendly bartender. Definitely worth stopping in when you're in Waupun!

Prison City Pub - Drag Queens on the TV at Thirsty Marlins, now-renamed "Prison City Pub" in Waupun

I don't normally do reviews, but this visit felt like it needed one. My girl and I came in here…read morearound the end of February, on a Thursday night. We weren't really feeling the vibe, but we heard that the place had reopened under a new owner, so we figured we would check it out again while visiting town. First thing new that we saw was the huge TV's which we felt were a bit too big and bright for this bar, and the one we had to sit by had Drag Queens on it, which made us a bit uncomfortable after hearing some of the comments from another customer bashing it. The tv didn't bother us as my girl is bi and knows a few queens from Chicago. As far as drinks, we also noticed the lack of Tap beers (none at all) and a limited selection of flavored Rums, which are her favs. We stopped because we heard great things about their Karaoke nights on Thursday, but that was clearly not the case. This was a bit disappointing as we didn't find anywhere else to sing. We decided to order some apps since we were hungry and already here. The menus were just as bland as their apps; their tenders and fries were average at best, nothing special. I think the chick bartending must have been the owner based on the conversation she was loudly having with another customer, trashing someone, at the other end of the bar. She made us feel like we were inconveniencing her when we tried to flag her down to get a 2nd drink by the way she got off her chair and gave us an attitude. We were already skeptical when we heard the new name of the bar would be "Prison City," but we didn't really think it would feel like being at a prison, reminded us of your stereotypical Prison Warden..... Pretty uncomfortable! We don't really recommending this bar, especially for date nights. From what we learned, this is NOT a friendly bar, especially not for anyone lgbt, or not local. We also can't stress enough that owners should not be trashing customers to customers, especially around new customers. We ended the night across the street and had a much better time. We would recommend stopping at the bar across the street, "Our Bar" for nicer staff, stronger pours, and just a more welcoming and more neutral vibe.
