Been going here since I was 7 years old in tow holding my Moms hand. Drove from Clifton to experience the infamous potato and German Potato Salad and a solid roast beef and tomato sandwich. I remember eating the salads in the car as Mom drove us home. The proprietor, couldn't be a nicer warmer fellow who welcomed me in German as I entered. Anyway, one upsetting issue was the minimum of stock currently available but I guess that's the way these Mom/ Pop deli's are bound to go. I remember Otto's Deli bustling back in the day but that was generations ago. I'm dam near 70 now and with the advent of supermarkets and delivery to home I guess that's a sign of the times. Please, if you're in the area pay Otto's a visit chat with a very nice man and grab a sandwich and a side of salad. Keep a man's dream alive. I come back to 07403, ( where I grew up) , at least twice a year from SE Pa just to see Helmut and get some potato salad. It is the BEST.

Lived around the corner from Otto's in the 70's. It was a "true" neighborhood deli. The proprietor, his wife, and two young boys were always pleasant and helpful. The food was great and this was a really old school deli. Only one other deli where I remember the proprietor did use a cash register, but added up your purchase on a paper bag then entered the total in the register. My husband and I read wonderful reviews online for Otto's Deli, and we live locally so we decided to give it a try. When we arrived, we attempted to walk in when a woman on a phone with no mask approached us. She began to push back and close the door. I asked if they were open (the open sign was lit up). She said yes and asked what we wanted. We've never been , so we didn't know what was available. As we stepped aside to consult one another, she closed the door entirely. We felt so uncomfortable so we decided to leave. If customers were discouraged from entering the establishment, there should be a sign indicating so. Additionally, closing a door in my face will never make me return. Very uncomfortable experience. read more

Every time I'm in NJ I go out of my way to go here. My grandparents and parents all went here. The potato salad is the best I've ever had. I love the Taylor ham and bologna and cheese sandwich. I've even taken my own kids here. There's a playground across the street so it's perfect to get food at Otto's for a picnic. I would totally the potato salad to be shipped to my home if it was possible. read more

Our family has been going to Otto's for over 40 years. This is a family run business that has the best German Potato Salad, Coleslaw, Macaroni salads in Northern NJ. They also make the best Rice Pudding. We order his salads for every party we have anytime of the year. You do need to call ahead for your parties. The rolls are fresh everyday. The sandwiches are by far delicious. I truly miss them with the Covid Virus this will be my son's first birthday party without Otto's salads in over 20 years. Darn virus. The salads are pretty good. Not much of a variety as far as sandwiches though. They might make the best Taylor Ham, egg and cheese I've tried. First off they use real Taylor Ham. I suspect most of the area delis use something cheaper because their "Taylor Ham" doesn't have the right tang. Otto's provides a generous serving of Taylor Ham and it is cooked home style on a stove top and served with a perfect roll with the right combination of a crisp outside and soft center. read more
