I had a lovely experience shopping here the other day when I purchased a beautiful blouse and pair of pants. Their selection of clothing is very curated and yes it's expensive, but no more than any other fashionable boutique that carries selective known brand and up-and-coming designer clothing. I didn't experience the cold customer service other people have referred to, hopefully that feedback was heard because shopping should be fun or at least, a good experience. Ok so here's the deal. I consider myself to be a pretty smart shopper and while their selection of labels and all is amazing (like barneys if they pared it down to all the stuff you like)...otte does mark up prices by about $15 more than you'd see it at a dept. store. So I guess if you can't deal with searching through department stores it may be worth it to you. My tip? Go in and look...and then get what you want somewhere else. Hate to say it but the gals working there won't give you the time of day unless you are buying anyway so I don't think they deserve the sale. I liked the clothes here a lot, I just didn't see anything that screamed: BUY ME. The pieces look well made, well constructed, comfortable and nice. They are a typical NYC set of sales people --- friendly but not until you start expressing interest in buying something. I kind of enjoy not being bothered though! read more

I give Otte 3 stars for having the dress I wanted in stock and for reserving it until I got there to try it on. I deduct 2 stars because the salespeople were snotty and disinterested. When salespeople are snotty and disinterested, I have this perverse desire to INSIST that they pay attention to me, and that they find the minimum of politeness indispensable for making a sale. I ask many polite questions, I request other sizes, I make comments. I engage them with a will! Then I purchase my item, say thank you and leave. It's actually more fun and less disheartening than trying to match their frigidity. read more

Oh Otte, How I love thee! How I can never walk into thee without spending at least 20 hours worth of paycheck! Otte carries 3.1 Phillip Lim, Rebecca Taylor, Vanessa Bruno, J Brand jeans, C&C California tees, Anna Corinna bags, and a host of other stylish and feminine items. As of this writing, much of it is marked down 30-70%. I just scored 3 long sleeved C&C tees for layering, $21 a piece. The service is just adequate, but oh, the merchandise! Cute boutique but definitely pretty expensive for what it is. You can get the same brands in the city (though not in the village) for a better price. Also I wasn't too thrilled with the service. Tried on an average winter coat which I wasn't too crazy about but the sales girl was pretty intense about how great it was and how I absolutely must buy it. Great clothes, no customer service. I walked into Otte hoping to purchase a few new work and casual items. As soon as I walked in, I knew I would not be making a purchase. The man who let me in turned his back immediately and walked away. No hello or welcome. As I browsed the items, I was glared at as if I were being annoying for looking. It is rare that I buy clothing in a private store. I broke this pattern and purchased a top for $80 by a well known designer. I wore it several times and noticed holes in the front of the top. This was 2 months after the purchase. I brought the top in to the store. The manager photographed the top and sent it to the designer who refused to do anything about it.. So did Otte. So I am stuck with a shirt with holes in it. Rule #1 be careful what you buy in a private store and rule #2 don't buy anything in this store no matter how cute it looks. Their return policy is 10 days only and for exchange. I believe the top was defective and I did not look closely. For the most part their clothes are cheaply made. So beware. read more

This place curates well -- but only likes skinny people. Even a size 8 is a special order to them. If you want a large, forget it, they won't go past medium. Though I wear a 6 to 8 I will no longer shop there even when they do have my size; I am disgusted by the owner's attitude. I guess she only wants teeny tiny people shopping in her stores. Plus some of the people who work there are lovely and get it, but some are nasty-- like the owner I surmise. Happy to go elsewhere! read more

I love boutiques. I do not love high-priced junk. I promise this is not a bad review in disguise but rather a markup of the great customer service I received for some very poorly made merchandise. I visited Otte on a trip to buy a pug in NYC. As we were enjoying the best fish and chips across the street at A Salt and Battery and ran across to pop in. I dawdled in front of the jewellery case for a lengthy amount of time and ended up loving these very frail looking bracelets, My Poupette, I believe. One was half string, half teensy tiny gold chain with a tiny diamond in the middle and the other was some pretty greenish purple beads braided together. The total for some handmade bracelets....a whopping $375.00. With boutiques I generally slap my card down and close my eyes because it can be painful for what you get. While that wasn't too bad it was painful when a couple weeks later, back in Chicago, the green one fell apart. I tried to fix it and couldn't and then 3 days later the one with the diamond broke too. I contacted the boutique and they said to send them back so I did. I was offered new ones and I politely declined thinking this would just happen again and then a flurry of e-mails offered me store credit, which is useless to me, and I finally just asked for a refund, which was honored. Seeing as this is a boutique and no refunds are given to begin with I certainly appreciate that the girls knew the merchandise was faulty and a refund is more than fair given those circumstances. I appreciate that and am willing to go back when I am in town for something that will hold up better than those flimsy bracelets read more

I like Otte, I want to love it, but now it's like. Their buy is really good. Lot's of cool designers and great variety of clothes and accessories. The store is well laid out, and easy to maneuver. My only complaint is that some of the staff is a bit unfriendly. They aren't willing to help unless you ask, and don't seem to care if you buy something or not. They should be a little more welcoming and knowledgeable, but then again, I worked retail and I probably wasn't super warm either. But otherwise, Otte is rad without being pretentious or stuffy. This is one of my favorite places to shop in the city...you can always find something new and fresh in their cute little boutique-like store. They have some brands I've never even heard of but I would say the majority of the clothes are fun and come from a decent selection. Great little pieces as well (belts, cute earrings and hats)...a bit pricey so I would recommend going to get a fun top/cute skinny jeans for a night out with your girls. read more

My experience at Otte has sometimes been spectacular and sometimes downright lame. Ultimately, they carry some of the most interesting, refreshing merchandise and have terrific sales. Sometimes they can be friendly. Other times they are very disinterested in you. Such is life. read more

Do NOT shop at this store!! This store has some nice clothes but the manager, Nicole, is one of the rudest and most abrasive salespeople I have ever encountered. She was horrible to me and I will NEVER shop there again. Just had an awful shopping experience at Otte. Absolutely regret having made the purchase especially after finding out I can't return the item. The staff was absolutely tacky about the topic of money. Referred to some items as the cheap ones & others as the expensive ones, asked a customer how much she planned on spending today, etc. I bought a pair of earrings that I could easily have purchased online. I give Otte on the upper east side five stars for great customer service. Contrary to other reviews, whenever i have entered the store on 3rd avenue on the upper east side, the salespeople are extremely friendly and yet not overbearing. I bought a necklace here recently that I love for about $300, but when i wore it, the clasp kept becoming undone. I brought it back it back to the store. Being the last necklace of that kind, they sent it back to the designer to fix the clasp for me. It was ready only ten days later, and when i expressed how difficult it would be to pick it up because of the store hours and being away on the weekends in the summer, they offered to drop it off at my place. That is amazing service to me! read more
