    Ribs!
    Alessandra C.

Authentic Southern BBQ right here in Colorado. Nice and cozy mom-and-pop joint. Steve, the pitmaster, used to be a special ed teacher, now he's smoking meats like a pro. The ribs were cooked to perfection and paired well with spicy mustard (yes, called me weird, I don't like bbq sauce).

If your driving down the main drag, you might see someone waving at you. It looks fake, but it is Otis trying to get you to pull over and up the hill to try his BBQ. He has ribs, pork, brisket and only 2 sides and no sandwiches.. The Cole slaw was crunchy and cold and the brisket sample was great. The brisket plate with one side was $12, but unless you ask for lean, you might get what we got - a slab of fat. Luckily, Otis got us a lean slice and the brisket was tender and had quite a good bark. His bbq sauce though, needed some more zing. Nice picnic tables to relax and eat as well.

    Three ribs and Texas Twinkie

Authentic Alabama style ribs! This place uses an excellent dry rub that doesn't need munch more than a few simple ingredients, but it gets the job done. The ribs I had were definitely melting in the mouth. The sweetness of the barbecue complements the peppery rub perfectly. Definitely a must try!! Here's a plate of 3 ribs with their Texas Twinkie. Truly loved this meal!!

    Ribs, off the bone!

This was so good! As a couple millennials from Kansas we really loved the smoke taste and the sweet sauce. The 1/2 rack rib plate was massive, this is what was left after eating my fill! The service was fast, food was hot, we'll definitely be back!

So being in Colorado Springs, Rudy's was calling. Ordered half pound of moist brisket, 1/4 lb pulled pork, Cole slaw, corn on the cob, banana pudding, and peach cobbler. The order taker was very nice and polite and ordering was quick and easy. There was a bar with pickles, onions, jalapeños, etc. regular and sissy sauce at the table(you don't need it on the brisket). The Cole slaw..well it was Cole slaw. My wife loved the corn on the cob. The pulled pork was tender and flavorful. The brisket was just amazing. Juicy, tender without being mushy, and a deep Smokey flavor. And the bark...my lord....so delicious. I was very very happy. Def in a moist brisket coma afterwards. Only disappointment was the deserts. Not very good. Wife did not like the banana pudding and the cobbler crust had zero crunch..like it was soft. I probably would not order that again. But overall super happy! You guys ever want to put one in Los Angeles or OC? Other out of states chains have done well...notably Portillos (Chicago based beef sandwich chain) in Buena Park. You'd blow everyone else out of the water(though I haven't tried Heritage in South OC).

First off, the interior is really fun and interesting. I sat at the bar. The selection of small batch locally made beer was impressive. I ended up getting an orange blossom beer that was suggested by the bartender. So good!! I wasn't very hungry so they let me order the child's plate and I got brisket. The server suggested I try the red beans and rice. I was a little skeptical because I've spent a lot of time in New Orleans, and had some of the best. I was so impressed, I almost wished that I had just ordered a bowl of beans and rice. The brisket was really tender as well. Very friendly service and food appeared in minutes after I ordered. The smell of smoked meat hit me the second I stepped inside, and I knew I was in for a good time. I grabbed a seat on the patio, where string lights twinkled and a local band was warming up. The brisket came out tender with a perfect bark, and the pulled pork melted like it had something to prove. The burnt ends were the real show-off, though--crispy, smoky little bites of joy. Even the sides had personality, especially the spicy slaw that snuck up on me. Service was friendly and easygoing, like everyone there was happy just to be surrounded by barbecue and good vibes. Parking was a little tight, and there was a short wait, but between the music and the beer list, I didn't mind a bit. It wasn't flawless, but it was flavorful, fun, and full of character--just the kind of place that makes you want to kick back, loosen your belt, and stay a while. Solid four stars and a full stomach to prove it.

We used to buffalo gals for our wedding and food was great. Just a few points of miscommunication that caused a bit of unnecessary stress on my wedding day is why the loss of a stars. We were told that the one guest who was celiac and one guest who was vegetarian were going to have a plated meal to prevent risk of cross contamination and would ensure they had their food. We were told not to stress as they would be plated and given to the guests as they were given the guests names and could work with the seating chart. I noticed that the guest who was vegetarian was only eating sides so I had asked and she said she didn't know there was a separate meal. the celiac guest who luckily got to go through the buffet first did not have issues as she did get to go first but could've caused severe outcomes for her if she did have cross contamination. After talking with catering staff onsite they said they were told that the guest has to ask for it which was complete opposite of what was originally communicated, and they were deeply sorry. So just miscommunication with one that actually could've caused permanent harm if she had ingested gluten. We also paid an additional fee for grilling to be onsite, due to fire ban that was unable to occur. We understand that is not within our control but no where in the contract does it say that it is not refundable, so they just held onto that fee even though they didn't provide the service. When asked about the refund I was told the fee was for the tri-tip to be cooked on a specific grill but nowhere does that say that in our contract and was NEVER communicated - because if it was not onsite we were told the way it was cooked was the same - we thought we really were just paying for the experience of it being onsite. So biggest tip for anyone going through them is get everything in writing with clear communication and clarification, because without that they don't care to help.

This visit brought me in for Mother's day brunch and it's evident that the establishment is under some major construction but this didn't deter from our feast. It seems the hotel could use some repairs and touch ups and so it's good to see that is underway. The buffet provided a wide variety of options from omelette station, breakfast items, seafood options, prime rib carving station, loads of sides, salad bar and more. My favorites were the au gratin potatoes, Brussel sprouts, and Mac & cheese. The dessert options were very limited as most items had run out and weren't refilled, but I was too full to care. Service seemed a little curt, but was sufficient. I don't think I would ever make a true judgement of a dining establishment based on a buffet experience so I'll have to go back for a regular service to truly explore what the Cliffhouse has to offer these days.
