I have to say, my apartment isn't in the best shape; the foundation is uneven, the walls within are crumbling and everything is being held together by duct tape... Brownell was quick to contact me. When he called, he was very informative and professional. He had availability the next day, so I received a fair quote and decided to move forward. I booked him for the following week and felt a sigh of relief. The day before the appointment, he called to confirm and even texted the morning of at 7am to say he was en-route. At 8am, he was at my apartment with everything he needed. I quickly showed him my problem and figured he would just spackle the cracks in the door frame and call it quits. Instead, he removed the damaged boards from the back door and replaced them with new boards. He even purchased white boards to match my door, so I didn't have to paint the trim to match the door. This door had been kicked in so the lock mechanism was missing and only being secured with a latch lock. I didn't feel safe the whole time it was broke. He fixed the inside of the door jamb and I could lock it once again. A few minutes later, I had to run to the laundromat, so when I left he was removing the trim off the front door. He called when he was done and when I returned, the front door was fixed perfectly! Because, part of the door frames looked so new and I didn't want my landlord to know there had been damage, so I used a tea bag to stain it so it looked dirty and tattered like the rest of the door frame. (it worked!) I really appreciate being able to support a local minority business, especially during this time. But more importantly, I wanted a honest, qualified and reputable business and I got just that! I had previously dealt with a different handyman who scammed me and a well known construction company who didn't provide the best service because my request was too small so I received sub-standard results... So, going into this I was skeptical and praying for a legitimate handyman. He was exactly that! I've passed his business contact onto everyone in my local area.

Explained the job and was asked if I would take pictures of the job and text them, which I did immediately. This was on Friday and was told they would come on Tuesday to give me the estimate. They said they would call me and let me know what time on Tuesday. Great, no problem. It's now been over a week and no show on Tuesday and no text or call. It's like the conversation never happened. If you can't depend on someone returning a call or text, how can you depend on completing the project on time or at all.

Gave $150 deposit on first visit because he said he need to pay his helper. He did not complete the project on the first visit and said would be back the next day to finish everything up. Turns out next day turn into 3 weeks of excuses and cancelations from him, did a terrible job with some safety concerns on the half finished playset(had to rehire someone and start over). Now he won't return my money.

He's ridiculous, holding on to my funds and then told me that he would pay me out tomo, then on Mon which is today and now he's saying Thursday and he's still only trying to pay me $60 when he owes me $100+ fowl when I was trying to settle for $100. I have things to do with those funds. He's a heartless man and I recommend that ALL CONTRACTORS & POTENTIAL CLIENTS STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM THIS MAN AND HIS COMPANY. They are scammers and they don't handle business PROFESSIONALLY at all! BEWARE!!!! It's now Thursday when Matthew said he'd pay me out in full and still hasn't. It actually seems as if he's even blocked me at this point. Therefore, I'm posting this review to save you all.
