My 11 year old needed dental cleaning really bad, from being a rescue I don't think he's ever had it done. I figured he would need almost all of his teeth pulled. Cons: charges 3-4 times the amount of the other vets I have taken my dogs to in Tijuana. Cheaper than US prices, but $75 for an ultrasound ( which by the way is done with the most ancient machine you get back like a blank black image) is unacceptable. Went in for a lump my dog had in her leg and ended up talking to me about this $400 echo ekg full heart exam I should consider getting . Really?? Can we just talk about why I am hear and treat that? I recently visited Dr. Lopez as Dakota developed cataracts after being diagnosed with type I diabetes and was essentially blind. So very happy with Kanyes' ACL Surgery. Before she used to be in pain, unable to do what she loved most, run, jump boulders, hike. Her recuperation took about 9mos. Recomended was one year to a year and half for full recovery. We started slowly at home after about a month and 1/2, small walks within the house and outside only till she peed or pooped and back inside to rest. Then third month we moved on to small walks, zig-zagging, fourth month added to the walks around the neighborhood and then visits to the park till she regained her strength and her must've mass began to take shape. read more

I will try to make this as short at possible. I have known Dr. Lopez for about 10years. He is the only doctor I feel comfortable with. He explains everything in great detail, gives you all possible scenarios as to how things could go. I took my dog to a vet in San Diego. We did X-rays, blood and urine workup. Over $700. They recommended surgery due to seeing a mass of some kind in x-ray. I sent details to Dr.Lopez, we was able to save me some money and kept my Rocky overnight to monitor him. No one is ever guaranteed the best out come, but if ANYTHING were to have gone wrong, I KNOW he was in the best possible care EVER! I am going to talk about a tragic experience I had and please don't let this reflect upon the work that they may be able to do. My 8 year old maltipoo developed eye eye cataracts and I was being quoted $5.5k to have them removed in California. I found Dr Lopez and this clinic on google, facebook and yelp with great reviews. I went in for a consultation and he sold me on getting the cataract removal surgery. He said that there was an 80% success chance my dog would be able to see. I was thrilled. I scheduled the surgery for 2 months later. The day to drop her off came. I was really sad, nervous and excited to have my baby finally see again. We took her in and they did a bunch of tests to ensure that she was ok for surgery. Everything came back great and with the ok for surgery. On Tuesday she had her surgery and it was done around 4pm. I called and the dr told me everything went great but that one cataract was already very mature and it came out very jelly like but other than that Holly would be ok to be picked up on Wednesday around 11-12pm. Wednesday came and we got ready to go pick her up. Around 1030 am I get a phone call from the clinic. They are telling me that she had complications and trouble fully waking up, trouble breathing and she was coughing a lot the night before (Tuesday around 6pm). They stayed until 7:30pm to try to get her to fully wake up. No success so Dr Lopez took her home with him to watch her or so he claims. She still had trouble breathing and responding. Wednesday morning he took her back to the clinic and hooked her up to an oxygen tank because she still wasn't breathing normal. She developed a high fever. This phone call lasted about 15 mins. I rushed to the clinic I was about 45 mins away. When I get there it's about 1145. They let me in and he tells me she passed away 5 mins after we got off the phone. I went into complete shock. I was angry, sad, heartbroken, devastated and in loss of words. He explained that she had a pulmonary Ebola. Here is why I'm so angry and confused. 1. Why didn't Dr Lopez call me on Tuesday night when they realized she wasn't fully waking up? 2. Why didn't Dr. Lopez call me to tell me he was taking my dog home with him to watch her? 3. Why didn't Dr Lopez call me as soon as they opened on Wednesday at 9am to tell me my dog was still having trouble responding normally 4. Why did the staff and the Dr wait until 5 minutes before she died to call me and tell me all of this? My answer to all of this...and this is just me trying to put everything together. They didn't communicate with me because they probably didn't notice, they probably didn't take my dog home with them to watch her. They probably realized at 9am the next day that she wasn't breathing correctly and that she was already dying! It was too late to fix their negligence. This is the first and last time I put my trust and my pets lives in hands of these people. I paid $2.2k to have my baby killed due to negligence. They should have communicated this to me at the time when they noticed she was having complications. I would've rushed over there Tuesday night. At least I would've been able to see her alive. I am torn, broken, sad, angry and distraught. A part of my life was taken away and all I was trying to do is give my poor baby a better life by having her see again. read more

We are beyond grateful to had found this clinic and encourage anyone looking for care to highly consider this clinic versus other ones in the area. Dr. López is an honest, trustworthy veterinarian who takes pride in his work and treats his patients like his own pets. My beloved cat was in need of a very risky procedure involving her kidneys, which he was able to successfully do. It was an emergency situation but not once did he rush us into anything without explaining to us first that we needed to understand all of the risks involved. He is extremely communicative and sympathetic and explained to us that he will give 110% effort to save my kitty's life and that's exactly what he did. The surgery in San Diego was going to cost 7x more not including hospitalization, medications, labs or imaging. The prices at this clinic are BEYOND reasonable for the amount of love and effort he puts into his work. My dog was take care off intermediately since the other vet in Rosarito decided just to give pain killers and ant-inflammatory when the dog had a mega infection and an abscess that was about to burst. Prices are a little higher than others but worth it nevertheless as Dr. knows his trade and does it well. My lhasa apso had eye ulcers, short story: We couldn't afford the surgery at the US, my best friend was in pain and she was about to lose her eyes. The doctor in the US told us this was an emergency and she could even die if we wait. So we took her to Dr Lopez; we found him on yelp. He immediately scheduled an appointment for surgery next day. I took my dog here and let me tell you people I could hear dogs crying and crying in a back dark room , The front desk there was a girl with black straight hair you could tell she could careless to help anyone . Just the vibe I got from this place if that's how they are with me then how are they with the animals . During the whole time that I was there for 5hrs not once did a I see anyone take an animal out to maybe go to the rest room or stretch their legs . They just seemed cold like not animal people. This was my experience with Dr. Gilberto Lopez of the Otay Vet veterinary: we took our dog for surgery, had lab tests done, and although our dog had an underlying condition and was at risk for this type of surgery, Dr. Lopez recommended the procedure and suggested that there shouldn't be any complications. Even with underlying conditions, our dog was as healthy as she could be; she was not in pain, was eating well, and her energy levels were as usual, so we decided to follow his professional advice. The surgery was done in the morning and we received our pet back in the afternoon. At this point she had trouble breathing, was coughing constantly, and her health was deteriorating. Again, this was a healthy dog who was running around and playing the day before. After calling him, he explained his procedures during surgery and suggested giving the dog medication which he did not previously indicate, once again assuring that there shouldn't be complications based on the lab results. That evening, my dog's health was getting worse and she was beginning to agonize. We needed to call Dr. Lopez again for further advice but he would not pick up the phone. We went back to the clinic hoping we could contact him again but he was not picking up. Within minutes, our dog died while waiting outside his clinic and didn't hear back from him until the next day. After knowing that his patient had post-surgery complications that same day, it seems that Dr. Lopez had no intention of following up and showed no sense of moral or professional accountability. Maybe it is our fault that we chose to trust and rely on the expertise of Dr. Lopez, who could not tell us the cause of death, but one thing is for sure, our pet did not have to die this way. Had we not been led to pursue this procedure, our dog would have been alive today. Due to his lack of accountability I cannot recommend Dr. Gilberto Lopez. read more

I brought my 2 senior dogs (both with terrible teeth - advance gum disease and multiple extractions needed) and we were able to get everything (including the medication) out the door for under $900. I've been quoted around $7K for places in San Diego. Dr Lopez was extremely professional and took great care to explain everything (from medications to lab results). The facility was also not hard to get to as it was only about 2 miles away from the Otay Border Crossing. Dr Lopez will be my go-to vet from now on and I plan to bring my cats there for their healthcare needs also. read more

Dr. Lopez at Otay vet is extremely wonderful!!!! The facilities have everything anyone would need for pet care including a surgical room, a lab that can provide results in minutes, and an ultrasound. He operated on our dog for a fifth of the price we were being charged in Los Angeles. We paid 400 for the ultrasound here - he would've done it for 55. I live in Calabasas CA and had been quoted over $2K to get my dogs blood panel, cardiologist visit and teeth cleaning/extraction. My friend told me about about this clinic in TJ and at first I was a bit apprehensive but after taking my toy poodle Mr T to see Dr Ramirez I will never go to another vet again. 2 weeks ago I went to Mexico to treat my baby Presley at this vet. I do not know HOW Yelp got these FAKE good references about this "Crook" of Dr Lopez!!! My boy had a bloated stomach and I thought it will be very expensive to treat him in the US. Guess what...instead of concentrating on his stomach he concentrated on his allergies!!! gave my dog 2 very high doses of Prednisone and antibiotics. My dog got worse :"( his stomach got more swollen overnight and ready to popup. I paid $293 for nothing. His prices are more expensive than here I swear. I took my Presley to another vet here in the US and we found out that he simply has not enough thyroid, no cancer, nothing. The medications Lopez gave him were wrong, specially the prednisone, and could of cost my dog's life by suffocation, and it cost me LESS. I took the tooth to a Vet in the U.S and he confirmed was a healthy tooth that never should have been given consideration for extraction. I am so happy with my choice to use Dr. Lopez at Otay Vet for my dog's surgery. When he tore his ACL I was quoted at $6,000 for the surgery in San Diego, I was devastated. The cost here was much more reasonable and comparable to other vets in the area. Not just that, but I was immediately put at ease by Dr. Lopez and his team because they so clearly knew what they were doing and were able to competently and clearly answer any question I had. He has continued to be helpful as we've received support and information on Scout's care since he has had the surgery. Dr. Lopez has responded to our emails quickly and in detail. Scout did have a complication after surgery -- he got an infection and had to be hospitalized at Dr. Lopez's office, where Dr. Lopez did us a great kindness. We were quoted $8K+++ for a life saving surgery our 2 year German Shepherd needed ASAP. After reading all the reviews on here, I decided to give this vet a try. I was looking to get my pit's ears cropped. I called, and his price was $350 which included everything my puppy needed to get his ears cropped. It was $100 cheaper than doing it here in San Diego, so we scheduled the appointment for Monday. We took him in, and we told the vet that we didn't want the crop long nor short. We wanted the show crop. We left him there for a few hours then picked him up. When they gave him to me, they told me that I had to peel the scabs off his ears whenever he had any. We thought it was a bit strange, so we did our research, called around, and we were advised(from another vet) to not peel the scabs off. We were scheduled to go back in that Wednesday to see how his ears were doing. We went it, and I told them how my puppy wouldn't let me peel off the scabs because it was too painful for him. The receptionist/nurse there then advised me to basically put him in a headlock and forcefully take off the scabs.. We never went back there after that. We ended up taking him to Southbay Vet in Chula Vista, who helped with the rest of the ear cropping process. His ear crop ended up being way too short when we specifically told Dr. Lopez we did not want a short crop. I regret not spending the extra $100 and just bringing him to Southbay since the beginning. read more

Crazy long story about this place, but I was on yelp one day desperately needing a vet for my puppy which had been sick for a couple days, I found so many vet hospitals in San Diego I decided to look for something outside simply because of the cost out here, so I clicked on Otay Vet and I wasn't sure if I was going to the right place, I called made an appt. I took my puppy on a Saturday, so he got tested for parvo which sadly he has, I left him for 48hrs came back Monday, he's a lot better now, just on some medications and low fat diet. I was very happy, I literally paid a fourth of what I would have paid in San Diego and it's literally 10min across Otay border. I can't thank Dr. Lopez enough for his help, and the nurses there!
