I was out doing errands, and decided to go to the top of a road by my house. Well, steam started coming out from under my hood. The dashboard message said coolant low turn off engine. I filled it with water and got home. Every time I put fluid in it poured right out. I barely make ends meet, so I left her sit. Everyone who I consulted with my issue, suggested I go to Ostrander Motor Werks. Everyone at Ostrander is upstanding, fair and professional. This is the first major thing that has happened to my car since I bought it last year for a song. They replaced the radiator, and got me mobile again! Kudos to Mike and his crew. read more

this is a reply to the review I posted 5 months ago ok it was $2500 not $3000 in total on my bill I don't keep invoices bottom line you had the hummer twice for the ac not working and once for a loud thud like a sledge hammer hitting the front end. and when I get it back, the day I get it back still no ac and the thud is still there. I never called or asked when it would be done or why it was taking so long if I remember right it was about 2 weeks but I know parts take time to come in but you should make sure it's fixed before you give the car back. and when I got in it I seen the hood dented I knew I was not coming back. the only reason the post was done in July was that was when I took the time to post one. the parts you replaced seem fine, the way I look at it you had it to fix a water pump the ac and a thud. the water pump works fine, ac does not and I still have the thud in the front end. strike one and two was not fixing the ac twice the third was I still had a thud and now the dented hood I just got this truck a few months earlier and know the hood was fine so strike 4 and now you are saying I dented the hood and worked on the car myself. I never said about the dent because I figured you would say just what you did, and for the for the other things, 3 things wrong with it and 2 things fixed, I marked it up to experience and moved on. I will say you did well with my wife's bmw wish I had the same experience with my Hummer. its a play toy so its only driven about 5000 miles a year. that's my story and I'm done talking about this bad experienc. read more

HIGHLY recommend! When I was driving with my kids and dog from Nova to Indiana just before Xmas, my Audi broke down. Luckily I was able to make it to Ostrander. Mike dropped what he was doing and checked out my car. He was empathetic when he told me that I needed a new engine. It wasn't unexpected as there is already a class action lawsuit against Audi for the issue I was facing. He provided a fair price for an engine replacement. Ultimately I decided to donate the car to the DAV. Mike advised me on what to tell them about the car. Mike and Leo sent me my plates and all the personal stuff from my car. They also made sure my car was picked up properly. Mike happened to be in town when my car was picked up. He saw it go by and sent me a pic. Forever grateful for them. They made my nightmare before Christmas much easier!!! read more

On day one of a two-month road trip, our RV lost power going up hills. Because it was late in the day, no one was open to fix the RV. When we called and spoke to Mike, without hesitation he told us to come in, that he would make room to fix our class B RV. The part he needed was in Hagerstown so he had someone drive the 2-hour round trip to pick up the part and fix our RV. I took my Chevy Colorado to Ostrander on the recommendation of my neighbor because I was having brake issues. They were grinding & locking up. I also asked them to rotate the tires & do an oil change while my truck was there. They kept my truck from 3 pm the prior day till after 330 pm the next day. When I called to enquire what was wrong with the brakes & why I hadn't heard from them, I was told, "nothing" is wrong with the brakes & it was taking so long because they were looking at other vehicles that were coming in that day that needed immediate auto care. They also said that they kept taking my truck out to drive & never heard or felt anything wrong. When I asked if they had looked at the brakes, drums, & rotors, I was told nothing was wrong with them, "brake pads were good". On the receipt it stated there were no tools to change the tires. I picked up the truck & looked for tire jack where it should be & behold! all tools were in the place they should have been. First red flag, they didn't even know where the jack and tools were located in my truck? And then just said they weren't there. The first time I stopped at the traffic light after leaving Ostrander my brakes made the grinding noise & locked up. I went home & made an appointment with Firestone in Hagerstown & as soon as they removed the tires they called me out to the bay area & I physically saw that my rear brake drums, front brakes & rotors were all trashed & needed to be replaced. I knew it was something serious, but I had no idea how bad & dangerous. Upon seeing the damage, I also asked Firestone to double check on the oil/ filter to be sure they were clean & that the oil change had been done properly. I also asked them to verify that the alignment I had paid for at Ostrander had also been done properly. After seeing the damage of my brakes, rotors, & drums, I wasn't sure if Ostrander had done anything they had charged me for. Ostrander said everything was in good condition. They let me leave their auto shop in a vehicle with bad drums, rotors, & worn brakes. Terrible, terrible auto shop. They obviously don't know what they're doing. Don't go there. read more

Concerned about the sound our brakes were making on a road trip from DC to Pittsburgh, we pulled into the shop 15 minutes til closing on a Friday to discover our brakes were totally shot.
