They needed a little extra help this night as I think there was only one server. There was also a private party in the back. Wine selections are mostly organic (if not all). Reasonable prices too. We ordered a bread plate, cheese plate, seitan steak, and pizza (not shown). When we sat down, we were told there was no vegan mozzarella. This changed a few dishes for sure. The pizza would have been much better with it, but was still very good. The cheese platter and seitan steak were stand outs for us. The vegan cheeses made by the owner would make any omnivore go vegan. In fact, we came back the next day to purchase cheese and dessert to go. Soooo worth it. I wish they shipped to the US. Had we stayed longer, we would have eaten here every other day. We will definitely be back. This is the best vegan Italian restaurant in Milan!

Their Oreo torte was built with a standard chocolate cake base, then topped with a tall layer of lightly sweetened whipped cream and a dusting of cocoa powder. It was yummy - however, the real star of the show was their tiramisu! I just knew I was in for something good when I sank my fork into the slice for that amazing first bite. It was a fantastic vegan variant of the classic, the softest, most pillowy slice of heaven featuring moist sponge cake encased in a lovely fluffy whipped cream. Yum! Both desserts were generously sized but not too sweet nor too heavy. It seems like they rotate desserts throughout different days at both locations, and they do tend to run out of tiramisu earlier in the evening. I definitely recommend this place!

Despite its Michelin star and vegetarian focus, both the food and service fell well below expectations. From the start, we felt pressured to purchase expensive wine before even settling in. The restaurant offers separate vegetarian and vegan tasting menus, but when I wanted vegetarian and my wife vegan, we were firmly told this wasn't allowed. A senior staff member even came over to explain--quite patronizingly--that we 'didn't know our food' and had to choose one menu for both of us. Most dishes were mediocre at best, making the Michelin recognition hard to understand. Even basic details like torn table napkins reflected a lack of care. Overall, this was not the special experience we hoped for, and I would not recommend Joia.
