Firstly let me discuss the positives: Ost has a casual yet simple and modern interior, upon stepping inside one feels like their in a restaurant not a pub or bar which is nice given the location. I thought the dining area was perfectly decorated, tables well spaced and liked how the place looked and felt. The serving staff were also fantastic, they accommodated my additional seating request without fuss, were polite and attentive. Now for the negatives: unfortunately the food wasn't great, it was actually a total letdown and I was extremely disappointed. My friend and I shared the beetroot salad with lentils, turnip, goat cheese and greens and it was completely tasteless. We ate all the beetroot but pretty much left the rest as it lacked any flavour whatsoever. I think there were too many ingredients thrown onto the plate, sounded interesting enough but didn't have any seasoning or dressing, just bland. For a main I had the homemade Pappardelle with lamb ragu and my friend had the chicken. The menu actually excited me with a Barramundi, pork and steak dish as mains, but papardelle being my favourite pasta was a no brainer. So after ordering my fave with high hopes the results, again, were unfavourable. The pasta itself tasted good but was not cooked al dente, the dish came out overcooked and dry which, of course, affected the overall taste. What could've been wonderful simply tasted like a reheated/overcooked pasta dish. All in all I would not go back there for dinner but I'd go for a glass of wine or drink. I had a delicious French Riesling and still enjoyed the environment for a chat. Foodwise Ost needs to up the ante, it needs a huge improvement to warrant a visit back. Go somewhere else for dinner. On the upside the bread was excellent! read more
