I've been meaning to come here for a while and have heard rave reviews from friends and family. I was happy to hear that my wife secured reservations for us and another couple to try the restaurant out for the first time. Being the former Basil restaurant space, the interior is more intimate, darkly lit and a sure romantic spot for date night. The waitress was prompt and helpful selecting drinks off of their menu, inclusive of wine, beer and craft cocktails. Everyone at our table ordered a different drink or glass of wine and there were no complaints. For appetizers I ordered a bruschetta, which was served on a very crispy slice of seasoned bread. What was interesting was that the tomato topping (which was perfectly seasoned with basil, garlic and other spices) was served in a bowl on the side to allow everyone to top to their taste preference. It was a nice touch. We also sampled the cheese curds, which held up well to our Wisconsin standards, and a soup which I can't remember the name of but got high marks. Now for the main course. I was not expecting to be mind blown, by my god. The namesake dish, the Osso Bucco, was absolutely phenomenal. The veal was literally falling off of the bone and was easily, effortlessly separated with a fork. I have rarely had meat this tender. On the other side of the bowl was a fantastic risotto and a perfectly seasoned stew of carrots and onions. I did not indulge in the bone marrow, but I have heard it is a delicacy. Altogether this dish was worth every penny, and I will absolutely be having it again. To finish off this fantastic meal we opted for the tiramisu, which was elegantly plated in a creative manner I have never before seen. I'll start with why I'm giving a 4 instead of a 5, then we'll end on the positive notes... I had the seafood stew, and it was quite underwhelming; it was more of an under-seasoned pasta dish. The bay scallops and shrimp were pretty tough and overcooked, BUT whatever whitefish was in the dish was outstanding. My hubby had a Caesar salad and the scallops entree. Both were wonderfully executed. The dressing on the salad was the perfect amount, lettuce crisp, and just plainly done well. And the scallops were perfect. Elaboration would take away from what was just 'muah.' :) Server was attentive, but not overly pushy. Ambiance was low key, quiet, and warm. read more

We were welcomed into the restaurant warmly and promptly shown to our table despite being 30 minutes early The wait person was friendly and personable and was patient and helped us despite us not knowing the menu. We both ordered steak, Filet for my wife and ribeye for me. My daughters and had dinner at Osso Buco and we were extremely happy with all aspects of our visit! We were welcomed with a friendly smile and though we arrived early for our reservation, were seated immediately. The owner and her daughter were gracious and efficient, bringing water and drinks in a timely manner. We ordered the fried calamari and arancini appetizers, which were delicious and plenty for the three of us to share. We each ordered a different entree, and all were fresh and palate-pleasing. I genuinely had one of the best meals I've had all year this evening! I wish I had stopped to snap a photo but we were a bit crunched for time before a movie. We did make a reservation ahead of time but only about 2 hours prior and I would recommend this if you're going to visit. It is a rather cozy space and walk ins could be tough here. We started with a round of drinks and the arancini and it was incredible. The marinara was bright and well seasoned and really balanced the richness of the arancini I would have personally loved a little lemon wedge with it but sadly I didn't think of it until we were taking our last bites. As for the drinks, I had a glass of the pacific rim Riesling. I'll admit this is a budget favorite of mine so nothing outstanding but it was a hefty pour and a very good price. My partner had a breeze margarita and was very happy with it as well. It was sweet and fruity and served beautifully. My partner ordered the Salmon and while I didn't try it because I am not personally fond of salmon she loved it and the orange sauce it was glazed in. She also devoured every vegetable on her plate which is unusual. The side of veggies was primarily fresh green beans with very thinly sliced bell peppers. It was seasoned beautifully and the peppers were cooked to a slightly carmelized sweetness that really balanced these so much I could have genuinely had a plate of just the veggies for dinner. At our servers suggestion I tried the Lombardi. Before I even get to the rest of the dish y'all this was not some frozen out of a bag dropped in a fryer piece of chicken. That breading was OUT OF THIS WORLD. The chicken was also perfectly juicy and tender despite being pounded thin. The chicken was topped with some crispy salty prosciutto, fresh basil, and two delicious slices of fresh mozzarella cheese. Then it's drizzled in a lemon piccata sauce that is tangy and salty and a little sweet and all together was just really outstanding. We also both had the risotto. I enjoyed it tremendously, my partner however was not a fan of it. That said it was her first experience with this dish and her only dislike was the texture which was perfect for risotto so I think this is easily chalked up to a preference. As for service, our server was polite and clearly doing her absolute best but it was a busy Friday evening and there was only her and a woman I believe was a bartender that was also assisting with service. They were both working incredibly hard and overall the service was stellar. We went in at 6:10 and we were back in the car by 7:20 For a busy night and having 2 courses + cocktails it was very quick and we will absolutely be back very soon. read more

A hidden gem in the Wausau area! The food was great! We started with bruschetta that tasted very fresh. For an entrée, I ordered the Borgo. The risotto was cooked perfectly and was complimented by crispy pancetta and bites of sun dried tomato. My cucumber lemonade cocktail was a perfect refreshing patio cocktail. But I think where Ossu Bucco really shines is in their service. All staff was incredibly attentive and personable. I felt like an old friend when I was there. As my fair lady and I traveled to Osso Buco in her new car for a congratulatory dinner date, we almost missed it! That set the tone for how I thought our experience was going to pan out, but not in the negative manner you might expect. Tucked away restaurants like this are almost always exceptional quality, and this cute Mediterranean/Italian restaurant exceeded expectations in every manner they could! As we walked up to this delightful ristorante, we got an outdoor greeting from a very friendly and energetic hostess who opened the door for us, very welcoming. Upon walking in, I was delighted with the classical music that was playing softly, and I noticed the lighting and overall design gave a romantic, nearly intimate appeal to our dinner. After being seated, our server for the evening, Mercedes, quickly approached us, introduced herself, and made sure our drink order was taken care of. We chose to start the night with Fondutta De Gamberetti, a shrimp fondue(pictured below). What an incredible first course! The Fondutta was thick but elegant, with many flavor notes hitting right where they should. The bread was soft and warm, a perfect vehicle for a dollop of fondue. My lady doesn't normally enjoy any kind of seafood, but after some prodding from me, she tried it, and her face brightened up as she tasted it the first time, and then she couldn't get enough! By this time, Mercedes had come back with a warm smile to take our order, which included some extra bread for the fondue. I asked her to tell me the Chef's special that night, and she elaborated on 4 specials that day, which was a pleasant surprise! Among these was the Chicken Marsala(pictured below), my eventual selection for the main course. Our dinner arrived in a timely manner and was presented with elegant simplicity! But beyond looks, I'm sure you're on the edge of your seat for how it tasted. What a splendid tasting Marsala sauce! The chicken was juicy and tender, and the risotto served underneath it was creamy and soft. Ultimately, it was the sauce that carried this dish to a high standard I would set for any Chicken Marsala I have after this one! Explosions of flavor in every bite! With dinner being nearly finished, the hostess had come back up and asked the occasion of the date, that being my lady getting her license and a new car all in the same day! With the same buoyant energy that had brought us into the restaurant, she congratulated both of us, fists pumping in the air victoriously! After this, Mercedes resurfaced and asked if we'd be interested in dessert. I'm a tried and true cheesecake fanatic, so obviously, I need to at least see the dessert menu! I was happy to see their cheesecake option is made in-house, so we ordered a slice. Mercedes was unsure of the flavor that day but was more than willing to go check for us. I told her not to worry about checking the flavor and leave it a surprise. She did the best she could, but as it was made with Hazelnut liqueur, she did come back and make sure neither of us had allergies to hazelnut before serving it to us, which gave away the surprise a little, but it was not upsetting that she was keeping us safe. This Hazelnut Liqueur Cheesecake topped with Chocolate Ganache(pictured below) was heavenly! The crust reminded me of a soft chocolate cake that paired well with the Chocolate Ganache topping. The cheesecake itself was epic, and I will definitely be stopping back in just to try a new flavor! I must say, I don't normally like anyone interrupting dinner, specifically the cheesecake eating time, but a special visit from the Chef that cooked our meal to our table was truly an unexpected but appreciated event! After brief introductions, we chatted for a while, mainly about cheesecake. Chef Marco is a very well-spoken and kind man, clearly willing to go the extra mile to really make sure this dinner stood out from many other restaurants in the area! After we finished dessert, I was actually pained with sadness to leave. But pay no heed to my melancholy self, I know that this is a happy place that I can't wait to come back to! The overall food stars of the evening, the Marsala and Cheesecake, left a strongly positive and lasting impression on me. And while we're talking about stars, let's not forget the staff too, especially the hostess and Chef Marco! I would highly recommend taking your significant other to this establishment because of its romantic appeal, great food, and wonderful staff. So what are you waiting for? I walked in here on a whim for lunch with my 10 month old, and at first I thought "oh crap this is not the place to bring a baby." Think white table cloth Italian bistro. It's really cute. Thankfully, they had a high chair, and the server was amazing, especially since she was the only server on shift. Literally, the sweetest, most gracious and attentive server. She immediately made feel comfortable with my decision to bring my kid in. We only ordered two things: the grilled eggplant appetizer, and the shrimp salad. Both were delicious. If I had to nitpick I was expecting the eggplants to have some char or grill marks on them, and I think that would have made it perfect. The shrimp in the salad was fresh & tasty and the salad was flavorful and perfectly dressed. The only thing that threw me off was the tomatoes were canned, and that's just a weird texture in a salad. Overall, the food was simple, but it hit all the right flavor points. My only regret is not ordering my kid his own side of shrimp, but I'll be back. read more

The Rosemary/herbed potatoes delivered anticipation like the tip of a toboggan drifting to the edge with the awareness of something delightful to follow. Then, as expected, came the awesome recognition of flavor, flight, and joy. What a beautiful introduction to the Filetto Grigli! I closed my eyes and savored the grilled fringes outlining the masterpiece interior, the exquisite flavor. My mind selected Canon in D, and played it slowly with emotion. Chef Marco is an artist, a composer, a Michelangelo. Two people asked me what I ordered because they noticed my enjoyment. The Filetto Grigli made me smile, contemplate and gently laugh in amazement. We really enjoyed our meal here. The minestrone (really more like Italian Wedding Soup) was well-made, and our entrees were also good. Only complaint is there isn't some kind of bread or cracker to start the meal off with. I think that would add to the experience, and give the chef a chance to show off a compound butter, flavored olive oil, or agrodolce. Staff was sweet and very attentive. read more
