Your kids aren't blonde haired, blue eyed, very skinny, and rich they will be brutally bullied and if your family doesn't have money the school will do nothing about it and brush it off. Lunches are free, but if your kid is in middle or high school and dares eat the main dish instead of getting a salad they will be looked down upon by their peers. There's a huge eating disorder culture here - the school store doesn't sell uniforms above an adult medium. If your family happens not to be white or white passing, you will be outcast and treated different. If you don't have a boatload of money and are on scholarship - you will be treated differently. Report any bullying or abuse from other students and they will sweep it under the rug to save face. The religion portion of the education is also extremely dated and extreme - very conservative - in 8th grade your child will watch every 70s abstinence video on the planet and be compared to a wrapped present. They have a pro-life club that actively campaigns at lunch to k-12 students. Class trips start happening in middle school and cost anywhere from $2000-20,000 and are anywhere from Chicago to China. Don't get me wrong, the education is spectacular and your student will be 2-3 grade levels ahead of public school students but if you don't fit the mold their mental health will suffer. The harsh reality is that there is a specific look and cadence to the type of student that fits in and is most welcomed here.

People researching schools in our district will wonder how I could give a 4 star review to a…read moreschool that chronically ranks low? It's simple: A. This is yelp and it is based off experience. I have the opportunity to be a community partner with Zanewood and have seen the school from the inside this past few months. B. They have a staff and leadership team that care deeply for the school in fact some staff feel called if not compelled to make a difference. I have also met the new principle who came from Obama Elementary in St Paul and she is going to see this school live up to my ranking. 3. I have seen the degree the volunteer services goes to endure kids have the resources necessary to succeed in life and school and have seen a desire to get parents more involved in the school body. 4. Lastly, Brooklyn Park is a cool city with a gritty vibe and embodies everything that is awesome about diversity. There are several great schools in Brooklyn Park and Zanewood is one that pulls from the largest area and represents a student body that has significant needs. The kids here are artistic, dream big dreams and have amazing possibilities. All you need to do is team up and volunteer! This Steam school is on the rise!

I am still a full time PSEO student (this is my first and last year of PSEO as I am graduating high school as a junior in 2026) but this school was genuinely more challenging (in a good way) than my college classes are. Our family has LOVED Foundations Christian Academy. The school has a small family feel to it, which…read morehas allowed our kindergartener to feel at home since day one. The kindergarten teacher has been absolutely fantastic with our child & communicating with us as parents. Her patience, kindness, & character reflect a great example of Godly character to the children in her classroom. Our child has enjoyed school & thrived at this school, so much so that she has her sibling excited to start school next year. We appreciate the small class sizes, but we mostly enjoy seeing the school encourage our child to grow in a firmly rooted relationship with God. There were some changes that happened this last school year; the amazing part has been how the staff, the parents, & even the students pulled together to not just get past the changes but to come out of them with a stronger sense of teamwork, commitment to the school, & focus on God. Foundations Christian Academy has exceeded our expectations for a small Christian school & we would highly recommend that any family looking for a school with a firm Biblical foundation look into this school.

I hesitated writing this review but I feel I am doing a disservice to potential families by not…read moredoing so. We have been at FCS since the school opened until February 2025. Throughout this time, we have seen a lot of growing pains and changes, but this comes with having a brand new school. Bullying was very bad for my son and despite constant communication and concerns on my part, the school ignored it due to the parent being part of the school board. I had to threaten leaving the school for them to even reply to a phone call or email. My daughter then started kindergarten there and at that time, had a wonderful teacher. Then, began 1st grade and was being physically bullied by a boy larger and older than her. Again, nothing done about it besides "talking to the child". No reach out to the parents. Again, I had to threaten leaving the school and contacting the board of education for them to respond to my emails. Bullying is NOT taken care of here. There is a "moms group" here who have basically taken over the school and are on the board so as to control how things are done, despite being unqualified to do so. It is so bad that the founder of the school, Brad, was pushed out by these women due to him suspending one of their kids for derogatory statements, writing, ect. He had to resign immediately due to the growing tension between him and the board/school moms who work there. This group is incredibly cliquey and I often felt looked down on and judged. Bullying will NOT be taken seriously here. Since Brad had been gone, that left the entire 5-8th grade without a qualified teacher and left them with the moms trying to teach them and a Pastor coming in trying to run the school. We also had been told that my son, who is incredibly intelligent, was failing constantly and there were no resources to do any sort of special accommodations for him re: taking tests, breaks, ect. We have finally pulled our kids out this February and are at a new Christian school in the area and my son went from "failing" to ALL A's in every class. Kids need environments where they are uplifted, encouraged, and taught appropriately. This school completely failed my kids and us as parents. Since we have left, there have been at least 6-8 children total who have since left as well, out of 30 something total kids. It is alarming what is going on. I am not the only one - the others just haven't done reviews yet. My son even asked if he could attend chapel one day since they have an open invite to others who want to join- we were just told "no". Obviously now theyre holding grudges against parents who choose to do whats best for their own children. I cant believe this school calls themselves "christian".
