Tacos
Caren F.

Omg this place is so good. If you read my reviews, it's rare that I give 5 stars. This place is a hidden gem. Or maybe it's not. Everything that I tasted was so good! They had an open salsa bar!! Yes! The tacos and carne asada fries were on point! Will def come back here if I'm ever in the area! Wish they had one in Northern California!

"Pozole"...

Pozole? More like beef soup. I love the flavor of their pozole. Only thing, there's not even 6 pieces of hominy.... yes, I counted!! Extremely disappointing...I had to have my boyfriend go back and order me another and ask specifically for more hominy because all I got was meat in broth... really annoying. Ended up spending about $30 for both so I can get an ACTUAL bowl with hominy, the correct way.

The worst mexican food I've ever tried. Don't get the beef tacos or roll tacos.

Oscar's Mexican Food is the lowest quality mexican food you can get. Although, when being in the drive thru the customer service is nice. But food wise, it's bland and disgusting. Please don't come here. Save your money. First and last time I eat there. Disgusting.

Mojarra Frita
Viet M.

One of my go-to spots when I'm in San Marcos! Staff is friendly, attentive and accommodating. Decent salsa bar, but more importantly they are on top of it--cleaned and topped off when I asked for more of the spicy green sauce. Not all taco shops serve mojarra frita, so when I saw it on the menu I had to order it--especially since the price of burritos have skyrocketed everywhere! Might as well go for the fancy dishes! Don't let the low reviews deter you. Every time I've come so far, there are people dining in and cars in the drive-thru. It's been a real welcoming vibe for me and I had to post a review to help boost their overall rating. Plus one of the few 24-hour joints left! I kinda wish I lived closer!

Gigantic Burritos ! Drive-Thru is a bit tight so use your cameras if you've got 'em!

They have a good happy hour and a great patio…read more They just need to be a little clearer with drinks. Menu says "house wine" $10, or $6 at happy hour, but it doesn't list what the wine options are. I was trying to get a beer at happy hour prices, and they ran out and needed a new keg. No biggie except I didn't need a beer that much and my friends were waiting. I looked at the open wines at the bar, Estancia and J. Lohr. So I said, ok, I don't need to wait for a new keg, I'll just take the J. Lohr. It was going to be $14, because "it's not the happy hour wine." I don't know how anyone would no, cuz there's no wine list at the bar! Luckily they were nice and priced it at the $6 "this once." But it would be helpful if they listed what wines they have and had it either on the menu, or on the happy hour list ("not premium wines" or something). Anyway, I had fun. Food was decent. It's good that this place is still in Restaurant Row - so much of it is gone!

The bar has quite a bit of seating both at the actual bar and at tables including high tops and regular. Very clean and a nice ambiance as well. We were quickly greeted with warm, fresh chips & salsa as well as an order of waters. The waiter was very kind and great to talk with. He gave us just enough time to think about what we wanted and came back. We went with the house margaritas ($6), a few beers ($6), two large beef tacos ($8) and nachos with carnitas ($8). I was impressed with how stuffed the crunchy tacos were and how flavorful the carnitas were in the nachos. The meal was plenty to share with one person. Our waiter great throughout the whole meal so I really appreciated it. For a nice, weekday happy hour with good food, good drinks and good service, this is the place.

Especially this one green sauce Their veggie taco has grilled mixed veggies that were not over cooked or dry. I enjoyed how they took care of the veggies with the same amount of care with the meat. This place is great!…read more Wife and I came out on a date night to this local spot we've been trying to come to for months. It was on a Friday night, the place was packed, and difficult to find a spot to park. The line to order was almost out the door, but still fast to get through, and we were quick to choose what we wanted before struggling to find a spot to sit and talk. After about 15 minutes, our order was ready and we got to enjoy our food. We started with the Carne Asada Nachos, Refried Beans on the side. The meat was flavorful, very tender, and plentiful atop a pile of crisp and fresh tortilla chips. The cheese was nice and salty and the sour cream was warm to the point where it drizzled over it all nicely. All in all, it was a very tasty start to the night. The only two issues I had with it were that the guac was a bit overly pureed, making it kind of runny. And the refried beans had a very sour flavor, making me think that they were over the edge of going spoiled. I had to thank my wife's aversion to eating beans, helping us avoid having them spooned on top, which would have ruined this course. I also had an Al Pastor Taco, Craft Coast Style. The whole it was crisped up well, the cheese forming a great crust on the inside of the taco. The meat was sweetly marinaded, flavorful and delicious. On top of it was a good amount of beans, onions, cilantro, and guacamole, making for a good sized taco without any overflowing. It was pretty damn tasty. So, our first trip out here had more highs than lows, resulting in a very positive initial dinner. I'm sure those beans were just a one-off, at least I hope they were. And there's still hope that the guac may have had too much lime or had been overly mixed this time around. A second trip is definitely in the cards, with more of the family to expand what comes to the table.

The shrimp burrito was enough to honestly feed two people. The fries alone were enough to feed 3. There was only two of us to tackle these orders. That being said, you definitely get what you pay for. Sayulitas offers great value for the price. Our total came out to about $42 for all the food. They give a slight discount if you pay in cash. The bolt fries had curly fries, longanisa, guac, cheese and sour cream. Those were my favorite. The flavors blended well together. The shrimp burrito was ok. The rice was hard and old so it was difficult to eat. I would probably recommend skipping the burrito, hence the 4/5. There is plenty of seating in the restaurant, and there is plenty of parking in a shared lot with other businesses. This spot is great for munchies.

I'm not sure what changed in the kitchen but I pretty bummed on the last 5 times I've gone. I get the California every time I go and add guac for reference, I'm a simple guy. Under-seasoned meat or not enough meat, soggy or dry/stale fries, light on guacamole when added sometimes, missing cheese. The consistency has been really off unfortunately for a pretty simple burrito. My last time I went I ordered the usual California burrito no sour cream add guac, got the burrito and it had sour cream and guac.... But no meat???? It was a big tortilla with sour cream and guacamole only in it lol. I laughed at the mix up and the customer service was great getting a refund (didn't request it they just gave it to me) and replacement burrito. Still decided it was my last time going there after that as even the replacement tasted like the meat had no seasoning on it. Writing this review to hope they turn things around some time in the future, I miss coming here but can't justify spending that much $ for a burrito I'm worried to be bummed about....again.
