If I could give 0 stars, I would. Dr. Ben W Kittredge, if you get an appointment with this man, RUN LIKE HELL!! Believe the ratings. BELIEVE the comments. I decided to ignore them and give him a chance. I was recommended to him by a telehealth nurse. He seemed in a hurry and was extremely dismissive and downright rude. Within the first minute of interacting with him, I KNEW I had made a mistake. He has piss-poor bedside manner, and it makes me wonder why he got into this field besides the money. I don't trust him to guide me back to health because I didn't feel seen or heard. He definitely fits the "god-complex" stereotype some MDs sometimes get. Another thing, finding the free parking was NOT easy. OrthoVirginia sends you an automated message telling you that the parking is across the street from Starbucks. That is false. There is literally a restaurant that is across the street from the parking. You could walk across the street from that restaurant and go to the parking lot. Folks are in pain. MAKE THE DIRECTIONS SIMPLE AND DIRECT. I don't want to be searching that hard when I'm hurting. Add a photo of what the parking entrance looks like in the automated message, so there is no confusion. I can't say all of the doctors were rude. On my way out, there was a doctor who smiled and said hello. Perhaps Dr. Kittredge was the only crabby one. I had a ACL Reconstruction W/ Quad graft and Medial / Lateral meniscus repair on the 28th of August but Dr. Thompson and when I tell you that he did an AMAZING JOB he did just that. The receptionist are the kindest, the nurses are the sweetest but my Doctor though!!! Chefs Kiss. He answered all of my questions, made the right decisions for my ACL reconstruction and always made me laugh with his great sense of humor. Dr. Adam Wegner with Orthovirginia performed spinal fusion on two of my lower vertebrae to address spinal stenosis. The procedure was successful, and I am now pain-free. Dealing with Orthovirginia was efficient - appointments run on time, scheduling is easy (no waiting for months), and I was able to communicate with Dr. Wegner through email at any time. The staff went above and beyond to help me with pain management on very short notice because I was traveling outside the country before my procedure. Regarding the surgery, my main regret is putting it off for so long. I was in terrible pain and could barely walk. Being back to normal makes me realize how long I was living with symptoms and pain. The first week post-surgery is difficult, and you will need help at home. There is also pain for the first few days. However, after one month, I was walking unassisted, and by two months, I was walking two miles a day. It is now three months post-surgery, and I have no restrictions. I recommend Dr. Wegner and Orthovirginia. read more

They Only Try to Charge You as Much as Possible - The McDonald's of Orthopedists They may have ok doctors but the total approach of the company is to as little time as possible with you and to charge you and your insurance as much as possible. They have no shame. Charging $75 for a wrist brace that you can get on Amazon for $13.21. Also not sure why I was charged $273 for an office visit that would have been a $30 co-pay at another orthopedist. I have visited twice and have regretted both visits. If they spent as much time training their staff and doctors on medical issues rather than milking you for every possible dollar they might a god practice. They appear to have little interest in actual medical care. Do yourself a favor and skip this place. read more

Avoid this place like the plague. The patient's experience begins with a bombardment of texts and emails days (and sometimes even weeks) before the appointment, imploring you to check in remotely, pay your copayment and (allegedly) save the hassle upon arrival. You are also implored to arrive 10 minutes early for your appointment. But once you arrive, you do nothing but wait. The last two times I went here for a painful Achilles heel injury, my doctor left me waiting in the exam room for nearly an hour past my appointment time. And none of the staff members seem to care. My parking meter was about to expire -- as was the chunk of leave I took from my job to go to the appointment -- so I got up, left the exam room and asked the front desk clerk to refund my money. OrthoVirginia also significantly hikes up the cost of out-of-pocket treatments w/o informing the patient. You show up for your appointment, then surprise! Sticker shock. And don't even bother contacting the Billing Department. If you're lucky enough to get a response back (unlikely), you'll just get passed around from one person to another. These folks don't care about you, your time, or your health. All they do is steal your time and take as much money as they can. In that respect, it's pretty emblematic of the entire healthcare industry. read more

I can't speak for their physical therapy, but this rating is a confident single star for their doctors and nurses, who all seem like they don't care if they figure out what's wrong with you, so long as they get paid. I came in with two different issues and saw a pair of different doctors; one for my arm, one for my back. Both doctors made me feel like I was little more than a check on the to-do list, and the nurses were dismissive at best and outright hostile at worst. The doctor I saw for my back (Steven Hughes) claimed to give me orders for two different MRIs and was annoyed with *me* when only one of those MRIs were completed. I didn't write the order, chico. His suggestion was to shrug off the MRI that would have covered the part of my back that is actually in pain (hilarious!), and try physical therapy at their in-house facility for six weeks before trying the MRI. I imagine that's a lot of extra billable time for the facility, so of course he did. Look. I'm not a doctor. I certainly can't tell you where to go and where to avoid. But I know that if I'm goign to be treated like an idiot, I'm not going to spend a whole lot of time returning to said establishment. I'd advise you avoid the headache altogether and find a practice who knows what they're doing. read more

Dishonest company that takes advantage of disabled veterans. I was referred to OrthoVirginia (Alexandria office) by a Veterans Affairs in-network urgent care. When making the appointment I told them I had VA insurance and they told me it would be accepted since I was referred. When I arrived at the appointment I handed them my VA card and asked to verify that my VA insurance would be accepted. They assured me the visit would be covered and took down the info from the card. Following the appointment I received a bill from OrthoVirginia with full charges from the visit. Confused, I called them and was told they do not accept VA healthcare insurance. I explained to them that I was told multiple times by the front office prior to the appointment that it would be accepted. They refused to acknowledge what I was told by the front desk and demanded full payment. OrthoVirginia will tell you whatever you want to hear to get you in the door. Only after your appointment will you find out the truth. They've since hired debt collectors to come after me for the charges they told me would be covered by my insurance. read more

I had a fast and easy experience with OrthoVirginia. I had damaged my tailbone in a pretty bad fall. Having ZERO clue what doctor handles a broken butt, I did a google search and found OrthoVirginia. Gave them a call - picked up right away - and scheduled me for the next morning. I was in and out quick, getting an x-ray and a knowledgeable doctor to thoroughly explain my xray in terms I would understand. I'm hopeful I won't need a return visit and my butt bone (that's what I will continue to call it) will heal in the time they told me but I'm glad to know this was an easy visit and convenient location in the event there needs to be a return trip. read more

TOO BIG TO BE EFFECTIVE! When you call and are placed on hold, cause you will be, you'll hear on the recording how this place is the biggest in the state. This is fine if it also meant that they were effective. I had a pretty efficient appointment with Dr. Kittredge, in early Aug, since then I have not heard word one about actually getting my injections for my knee, despite my insurance approving. So when they do call and not leave a message I am then stuck playing phone tag, because noone actually makes notes on why they called. Today I made my 5th call in the past two weeks, the nurse/med-asst had no clue on how to answer my questions because again no notes . So now I get home and see on my insurance bill that they billed my insurer for an arthrocentesis (drain), to my knee which NEVER happen, being a former Independent Duty Corpsman, and having done them, I'm pretty sure that I know when my knee is being drained. SO in closing, you may be better off someplace where they actually know your name. 9/12/21 Updat: This place continues to prove my earlier statement to be true. THEY ARE TOO BIG TO BE EFFECTIVE. I tried calling again and state my problem with no one calling me or scheduling me for my knee injections, despite my insurance approving them on 8/25/21. After the nurse "promised" to have my issue escalated on this 9/08/21 call I have yet to hear from anyone. So this week I'm going I. To get my records, brace and go elsewhere. Anyone have any suggestions on a good caring ortho practice that actually will call you back? UPDATE: 9/13/2021: To further prove my point, I called today to make an appointment to pick up my brace, which has been ready now for about 3 weeks. Be sure to check the notes they take. I went in recently and they made a mistake in the notes. Factual mistakes about what happened to cause my injury. They incorrectly noted what I told them had happened. As a result of their mistake, insurance denied the claim. To make it worse, OrthoVirginia refused to correct the notes after multiple requests and me pricing the same information I provided to them before. Their refusal to correct their mistake and cause me financial injury is unacceptable. read more

Hands down the only place I'll ever go and entrust orthopedic care for my family. Came here in 2009 for shoulder surgery and again last year for my wrist. The entire staff listens to all questions and concerns and respects patients. Dr Novak saved my shoulder & Dr Pan fixed my wrist and I couldn't be more thankful for them. I have seen Dr Kittredge several times in the past seven years. I mention, I'm a dedicated master's track and field athlete; I compete about times a year, in jumps, throws and running events. Earlier, he helped clear up a severe case of plantar fasciitis, principally by my buying and wearing a pair of $100 clogs. Most recently, when Dr K was unavailable, I consulted another surgeon friends had recommended; he advised me that I had a torn meniscus and recommended an arthroscopy. Dr K quickly determined my essential problem is arthritis; no surgery, no time off training, no recuperation. Noting the reviews of others, yes, as in just about any medical office, it's not uncommon to experience a bit of a wait on occasion. The X-ray technician was pretty brusk. Give me time and I could probably pick another nit or two. Bottom line, however, I couldn't be more satisfied. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Steve Reese for years. On two previous occasions, I saw him for issues with my ankles where his first recommendations were PT, based on an MRI or XRay or both. In both cases, the PT made the issues worse, and I had to push him to think differently and refer me to a surgeon who ultimately fixed the issues. I started to wonder why the diagnostics were so inaccurate. This past January, I went to him for a shoulder issue, and again he directed me to PT. My pain just got worse and worse. I finally switched doctors and the new doctor questioned the original diagnosis and subsequent PT based on the MRI. We decided I should have surgery which confirmed I was misdiagnosed by OrthoVirginia, and the PT I was prescribed was not addressing the real issue, and creating new problems. Had I continued on the path directed by Drs Herring and Steve Reese, I would have done even more damage and more invasive surgery. Bottom line, OrthoVa seems to have blinders on directing everyone to PT as a starting point, and they are consistently unable to effectively diagnose problems leading to extended patient discomfort, wasted time, and wasted money. I'm grateful to VCU Sports Medicine for getting me on the right path almost immediately. read more

This practice has no sense of customer service & Dr. Stephen Hughes who works for the practice is a money hungry physician. I contacted the call center to inquire about a new patient appointment as I was a patient of a practice that is further away from my home than I'd like. My particular Ortho issue isn't repairable with surgery but treated by pain management. I was scheduled with a back surgeon, Dr. Stephen Hughes who doesn't do any pain management. At the appointment my vitals were taken by a nurse/ assistant who was very nice. When Dr. Hughes came in (mind you I had a 9:40am appointment but wasn't seem until 10:30am) he asked me how he could help me. When I explained why I came to his office, he told me that I was at the wrong place but not to worry her could help me out. He then proceeds to hand me a list of practices that I'm currently affiliated with & provides me with his recommendation. I explained to him that at this point it didn't make sense to see that Dr. whose practice is also in MD. when I truly liked my physician just not the commute to their location which is also in MD. When the nurse/assistant came back in with my slip to check put, I shared with her that I was unhappy with the appointment. It was not necessary for me to see Dr. Hughes as he did NOTHING for me but I had to pay a $45 copay. She walked me up to the front & talked to the 2 staff at the front about my issue. It was decided that the office manager of another OrthoVirginia would have to reach out to resolve the problem. They assumed me that the manager would call me on Friday, she did not. Long story short, the office "investigated" my complaint & concluded that during the call when I scheduled my appointment that it wasn't clear that I specifically needed a pain management practice even though I did see I'm being seen by a Dr for pain but the practice is far. Dr. Hughes felt that he provided me with a service that warranted $45, yet the visit was 10 minutes once I wss called back from vitals to checkout. I would NEVER recommend Dr. Stephen Hughes to anyone as he's more concerned with money than principles. OrthoVirginia as a profession may have other doctors with better morale character. read more

After seeing the doctor and receiving my diagnosis, I had to wait almost a month before the start of my physical therapy. The day before my first session the physical therapist had to cancel. Apparently only one or two therapists can do evaluations because the only other evaluation slot they had open was the next morning when I would be at work. The office had NO other evaluation times available for months which meant I could not proceed with any of the subsequent sessions I had scheduled and requested off for work. All of this time and effort and it achieved nothing. The office didn't give a damn about wasting my time. Horrible practice. read more

I was referred to Dr. Hughs by my internist. I went to see Dr. Hughs on 11/4/21. The doctor ordered x-rays for the lower right side of my back. When I went into the room to get the x-rays the tech wanted me to stand in front of the machine. I told him that was not a good idea. I have MS and have used a scooter for over 23 years to get around. He insisted and gave me a child's size walker to use. I managed to get the x-tray but then had to sit and I tried to make it back to my scooter but fell short. I fell and I screamed as I hit the floor. They had no idea how to move my scooter or get me up. My husband came running into the room. Seeing 4 people trying to get me to my feet and failing he was going to call 911 but the techs said they would get me up. When I finally got back to my room the doctor said nothing. No one ever asked how I was or if I was OK. I felt it was not very professional response. read more

Mega-practice with hundreds of doctors. Very efficient check-in/check-out, long waits in treatment rooms, and a bit of a rush on service. Bedside manners vary. Billing department a living nightmare - billing question line never answers, they literally carpet bomb you with multiple, redundant bills but never pick up if you have a question. They insist on calling you back, which you can be sure will be when you don't have the mountain of billing paperwork in front of you. The billing end alone makes this medical factory a stay-away. read more

*This practice is now OrthoVirginia* Was treated by Dr. Hughes for a herniated disc surgery in Spring 2014, and had problems with this practice at almost every step of the way. They failed to update my address I gave them and sent my bills to the wrong address for over a year. Did not even try to call at any of the phone numbers I provided for them and decided to send bill to collection agency and added $268 in collection fees. Tried to contest the collection fee's after I paid the bill immediately and they denied it and sent as supporting evidence my signed payment policy WHICH HAD THE CORRECT ADDRESS ON IT. Office staff claimed they would review MRI results as soon as they were available and call me for a phone consultation. They don't actually do that and didn't review MRI results until I came in for a appointment. I understand they need office visits to bill but don't tell your patient one thing to get them off the phone and delay the next step of treatment. Had a pre-surgery consultation, with a total of 5 minutes of face time with the doctor, take almost 2 hours from when I arrived. This was after I told them they were going to make me late for work, still was made to wait another half hour. Staff lied about when my surgery time was scheduled to start. Told me to be there at 10 for a 1215 table time. Confirmed with the hospital that my case was scheduled for 4:15 and I did not need to be there 6 hours before that. It was a minor surgery but I never even saw the surgeon afterward, everything was handled by the PA including follow up appointments. read more

We definitely started off on the best of feet (which is good since one of mine was numb at my 1st appt). I was referred to Dr. Hughes by my regular back specialist when a recent MRI showed that I would need surgery. My regular specialist literally picked up the phone, and less than 2 hrs later I was sitting in front of Dr. Hughes for a consult. I've only dealt with Dr. Hughes (and his staff) and the reception desk so my review of Commonwealth Orthopaedics is really limited to my experiences with them. I've never had any surgery before, so to say the "freaked out meter was pinned" is an extreme understatement. But Dr. Hughes was great. He had a full series of spine xrays done and then sat down with me to review the MRI and discuss the issue. At no time did I feel bewildered or uncomfortable. Dr. Hughes explained everything fully and then when I still had questions (and there were several) he carefully clarified things for me. I was put completely at ease. If I thought Dr. Hughes was impressive, his staff is simply amazing. Because of the serious of the issue, I needed to have surgery right away, so he had me scheduled for the needed procedure 4 days away. His nurse Carol, his surgical scheduling assistant Megan and his PA Lauren are all outstanding. I had a very short time to get all the necessary pre-op tests done and Megan was simply stellar at helping me get everything taken care of so I would be cleared. Four days later, I was staring up at Lauren and Dr. Hughes at Fairfax Hospital. Dr. Hughes definitely puts the patient's health above all else - but I'm eternally grateful that he was willing to wait a little bit before canceling my surgery after an unexpected reaction to one of the disinfectant wipes. Lauren has been great too, both before and after the procedure, making sure all my questions were answered, that I knew what to expect at each point and that my recovery is proceeding as it should. For a week that could have been absolutely terrifying, I'm really grateful and incredibly impressed with Dr. Hughes and his entire staff. read more

Dr. Thompson is TOP NOTCH! I am one to absolutely HATE the medical industry, doctors, insurance companies, you name it....I usually just can't stand it! Well, Dr. Thompson is by far the exception, he took as much time as I needed to explain my problems. I went in for a shoulder injury. I got xrays right away, and Dr. Thompson examined them, gave a detailed explaination of the severity of my ligament damage, answered all of my problems until I was well satisified, then even went as far as getting me printed out shoulder exercises I could do at home to do some self physical therapy. For the moment, I am safe from the knife, but it is nice to know that if things go that way, I will be utilizing the services of a group of doctors that are Redskins approved..Yup, Commonwealth Orthopedics works on the likes of million dollar football heroes, so I guess I will be in good hands if surgery ever comes my way. read more

Referred to Dr. Hughes by Dr. Pettrone after an MRI appeared to show herniated discs in my neck and back. Getting an appointment was fairly easy with the referral and his referral got me into a pain management program almost immediately. He was matter of fact, completely frank, and also didn't tell my wife what she wanted to hear ("yes, you're almost 40, quit hockey") rather he heartily encouraged me to get back out on the ice and to live my life. I went in thinking that I was going to need surgery and since Dr. Hughes is a 'Cutter' that he'd push me towards it. Furthest thing from the truth. 2 months later and my back is fine, my mobility restored, and I am lacing up my skates, much to the wife's chagrin. Thanks Dr. Hughes. read more

When I was 16, I was hit by a car while I was on foot. From that, I got a nice broken leg, tib/fib. My Father knew Brantley Vitek, Jr. who has been with Common Wealth Orthopedics for sometime now, and request that he do the surgery. I've had Dr. Vitek cut me open twice now. He's always been a straight shooter, and never gave me any fluffy... he didn't have a problem saying 'hey, with how you were injured, yes, it might hurt for a long time'.... I'm also in health care, and have worked side by side with Vitek in the ER. He cares about his patients, is straight forwarded, and will sit and weigh options with you; and make sure you understand what's going on. I've experienced it as a teenager, and seen it as medical provider. There new office is much bigger, and very busy. They girls at the front desk worked hard to figure out my workman's comp, and private insurance, and were always great getting medical records, etc. read more

My husband and I were going to Commonweath Ortheopedics before they became OrthoVirginia. My husband had ACL surgery performed by Dr. Kittredge and I've been there on occasion concerning pain in my wrist. We've never had any problems. However, this review reflects a specific incident that happened this week. My husband needed a letter from Dr. Kittredge for a potential job, it needed to state how his knee is doing. He had an appointment at the Duke Street location on Friday and Dr. Kittredge assured him that he would get the letter on Monday, just in time for his potential job physical on Tuesday morning. My husband tried calling the Duke Street office on Monday morning to give them the fax number. Apparently there is no direct line to the office. All calls are filtered through their scheduling line and transferred. However every time my husband was transferred, he kept getting a voicemail. He left a message with the fax number and waited to receive the document. He tried calling back almost every hour since he had not received anything - still the scheduling line and still a transfer to voicemail. It was going on 3:00pm when he called me and informed me that he hadn't received anything or even a call back. I got on the phone and discovered that there is no way to reach a live person unless you make a fuss. I wasn't going to take no for an answer, I was determined to speak to an actual person, not a voicemail. After 5 tries and 3 transfers, I finally got the Duke Street front desk. The rep said my husband's voicemail was received but they were told the letter was needed by Wednesday..... which makes no sense since my husband's physical was on Tuesday. She said Dr. Kittredge wasn't even in the office so the letter wasn't done... Obviously there was some sort of miscommunication but not from my husband. The big issue wasn't the fact that he couldn't get the letter on time. The issue was the frustration in trying to reach someone, only to be connected to someone who didn't apologize and acted like she didn't care. If you're going to work in customer service, learn some empathy. read more

Dr. Peter Thomas is in my top five Doctors of all time. He diagnosed both hands with severe carpal tunnel syndrome which would explain pain and numbness for over 10 years that I thought was just hard living. He was recommended by a friend as well as one of his colleges. His skill, explanation, confidence, and attention to detail are outstanding. He performed carpal tunnel release on my left hand in early April and recently my right hand in my. After 10 years of pain and numbness have disappeared literally overnight after surgury has Dr. Thomas had explain should happen. Let's face it, we only speak do our doctors offices when we are in pain and want to complain about it. We never just call and say " I'm feeling fine, just wanted you to know". This is my opportunity to say that I am greaful for the fine work that Dr. Thomas and his team have done. read more

I have received compassionate and extraordinarily competent care from Dr. Hughes for over 15 years subsequent to experiencing fairly significant back pain in my early fifties. I have never found Dr. Hughes to be arrogant or anything less than professional and caring. Moreover I would reemphasize that his competency shines the brightest when I have needed him the most, or during those rare occasions when surgery has been required to restore me to health. There is no substitute for competency when your physical health and your life is in the hands of your surgeon. I have personally experienced the deep confidence that occurs upon knowing that I was in good hands when surgery (always a last resort) was necessary. Several years ago Dr. Hughes successfully performed a microdiscectomy to alleviate excruciatingly crippling pain that rendered me incapable of managing even the most routine daily activities, and that sidelined me from the exercise that I routinely enjoyed such as volleyball, tennis and golf. I was on my feet, out of the hospital, and out of pain the day of surgery. I returned to all of my physical activities without loss of capability soon thereafter. February of 2021 I began to experience further deterioration in my lower spine that led to significant leg, hip and back pain. Dr. Hughes patiently managed my care from February through September that included a battery of physical therapy and spinal pain management, as I was desperate to avoid surgery. It is important to add that Dr. Hughes has always taken a personalized approach to determining his path of care to restore me to health to align his medical recommendations with my lifestyle. That said, in August of 2021 it became obvious that I would require surgery to address my increasingly painful symptoms. I was experiencing painful sleepless nights and long uneventful days due to an invasive cyst growing in my lower spinal canal. As well scans revealed I needed a laminectomy / fusion to address deterioration to my lumbar spine. Upon making the determination to have surgery Dr. Hughes met with me on three occasions wherein he overviewed the surgical process, and shared examples of other patient's outcomes subsequent to having surgeries similar to my own. Dr. Hughes did not sugarcoat the process. He thoroughly outlined the distinctions between my former microdiscectomy and the more difficult complex surgical process I was facing. That said, together we determined that surgery was the most optimal path to return me to health and the activities that I enjoyed, e.g., golf and racquet sports.   I underwent surgery Monday morning September 21. I walked (a very short distance) the day of surgery while in recovery, and increased my range each day thereafter. I was released from the hospital Wednesday September 23. Today I walk pain free, sleep pain free, and last night (October 26) I enjoyed a return to leisurely playing Pickleball with friends. Based upon my experience and progress I am ecstatic to be out of pain, and look forward to increasingly living the healthy lifestyle that I enjoy. Finally, I want to restate something I mentioned earlier with regard to Dr. Hughes capabilities. I am not an especially easy patient. With respect to doctors I seek competency. Prior to surgery I thought through my own surgical process. I researched it online. In great detail I considered each of the risk factors, beginning with the knowledge that my body would be physically invaded and subject to the expertise brought to bear upon it by my surgeon. I have also mentioned that I very much enjoy Dr. Hughes demeanor and approach to managing my health. All that said, his demeanor is far less important to me than the trust I have in his surgical capabilities. He is an amazingly gifted surgeon. I often thank God that he is my doctor and surgeon. It is a bonus that he is both caring and compassionate, and that he takes time to consider my lifestyle in context of his approach to healing. read more

I had a late afternoon appointment and the waiting room was packed. I had to wait about 30 mins beyond my scheduled appointment, which was disappointing. After taking x-rays, I met Dr. Thompson who communicated quite nicely my diagnosis and recommendations. I found him to be qualified, genuine, and easy to understand. I would not hesitate going back to seeing Dr. Thompson but I would schedule something earlier in the morning, as to not get caught in the backlog of patients. read more

Yesterday was my first visit to OrthoVirginia. My overall experience with Dr. Peter Thomas was so very good. To start I didn't have to wait a long time for Dr. Thomas to see me. He was very polite, professional, took his time, answered any questions that I had, and wsuch a wonderful Dr. I would definitely recommend him and the clinic to a family member or friend. My son recently had surgery performed on his ACL & meniscus - and Dr. Kittredge was his doctor. I have been a complete helicopter mom, emailing and calling with what a lot would think are trivial questions and concerns. But Dr. Kittredge and his office staff, particularly Elsie G. have been patient with me, walking me through the ins and outs of surgery, post-op care and PT. Dr. Kittredge also worked with us to get the right medication so that my son could focus on getting back on track instead of dealing with the extreme pain. I had an appointment with Emily Powell just as I have had in the past. I arrived ahead of my appointment time and gave them my copay and allowed them to see my ID to verify I was the patient. The person, Mary at the front desk insisted I allow her to scan my ID and put it in their system electronically. I said no because I am aware that Ortho Virginia had a breech of their systems a couple of years ago and their systems were shut down for at least two weeks because of it. During the two weeks I kept calling and got no one at all. I finally went to another practice who kindly informed me of the breech. Ortho Virginia never said a word about it. Why would I allow you to put my information in your system if it is not secure? Mary, then whispered to the person next to her, and I swear I thought I heard them say "Don't let the provider see her". So I asked them if I heard right and Mary said, no she is going to see you just have a seat in the waiting room. I sat down and was the only person sitting in room. 35 minutes later they call me back up and say We are not going to see you due to your ID issue. This told me they had no respect for me or my time. I drove 45 minutes to get there, waited 35 minutes for nothing and missed time from work. I then had to drive 45 minutes back to work. They could have said right out they could not see me unless I let them scan my ID. That way I would not have wasted 35 minutes sitting. Mary said Emily Powell refused to see me over the ID. The thing is I have been to this office at the Boulders Parkway building and have never had an issue with asking them not to scan my ID. They have in the past just looked at my ID and confirmed who I am. But Emily Powell needs to be careful about refusing to see patients without knowing what their problem is. She put me on a controlled substance that I am having problems with but when I stop taking it, it creates another problem for me that is worse. She needs to know she can be held liable for certain things. But for her to not even come out to talk to me is unacceptable. For her to waste my time and refuse to see me is unacceptable. Believe me I was pissed. She needs to learn what it is like to have your. Identity stolen and then she will understand why I do not want my information in their unsecure system. read more
