Where to start? This doctor is disrespectful and condescending, all while using a fake "nice" tone…read more She kept cutting me off and not allowing me to finish sentences, whether I was asking a question or answering one. She also kind of rolled her eyes and seemed exasperated by basic questions. It was like she was reacting to something that wasn't happening, or had already decided what I was thinking or something before I even walked in the room. As a Black woman, I am usually prepared for the possibility of bad treatment by medical professionals; I cannot confirm that was the issue here but it feels like a distinct possibilty. This office also made me wait about an hour and a half past one of my scheduled appts. Dr. Amar seemed offended that I questioned the wait and was visibly angry and more rude with me during that appointment. As far as Dr. Amar's expertise goes, she made my first set of orthotics so incorrectly that they felt like I was wearing nothing at all. I only went to Dr. Amar while my regular ortho was on maternity leave, and when I took the orthotics to my regular ortho, she couldn't understand how/why the orthotics would be made the way they were. I took them back to Dr. Amar and asked to have them remade/adjusted. She once again seemed offended and speculated that I would have to pay for them a second time, which, of course, was false. Once they were finally remade and I went to pick them up, she was rude once again about a simple and standard question about cutting the orthotics down to size. She said some weird thing about the "logic" I was using, based on me literally asking if she could cut them down a tiny bit for shoe comfort, or if that would affect their efficacy at all. I literally had to re-ask and rephrase the same basic question 4 or 5 times before she would answer. She continued to speak to me as if she believes I am stupid, telling me that if anything is cut off of the orthotics, it can't be put back. ...OK? That's kind of the point, no? It was maddening. To sum it up: Dr. Amar is bad at her job, her office is not run well, and I do not recommend her at all.

There are two parts to being a doctor. The knowing medical stuff, and everything else involved in…read moredealing with other people. He's adequate at the medical stuff. He made a fairly correct recovery plan after I tore ligaments in my ankle. So that's good. It's the rest that's the problem. The entire month of October, he didn't have a receptionist. He probably still doesn't. Based on this, communication with him comes courtesy of another doctor's receptionist, and it's very spotty. He claims to like to correspond via text, but is extremely slow to respond. His office is under-stocked, I needed an XL walking boot, and he was unable to get one. When he finally did, it broke within a few days of me getting it, and it then took about another three weeks to get a replacement. Also, and I know this is dumb, but he smokes. It's hard to trust someone with decisions made to make your health better, when he's actively destroying his. He is also based in Staten Island, and isn't in the office that much. Perhaps this is due to a lack of clients, or something else, but whatever. UPDATE: He didn't submit paperwork to the insurance company about my needing an orthotic, and had me pay directly out of pocket, which the insurance company says he is not supposed to do. Avoid this doctor.

INCOMPETENCE OVERFLOWING! I highly recommend staying away from this guy…read more In April I went in with some foot pain. I already had orthodic inserts, so he just looked at them, glanced at my feet and said I needed new ones. My understanding was that the ones I had were supposed to last 10 years (they were only 6 years old), but he insisted. He didn't watch me walk or do anything else in his examination. I foolishly gave him the $200 deposit for the new orthodics, and he said it would be 2-3 weeks. In mid-July after weeks of calling them and hearing they'd be in the next week, I managed to convince them to return my deposit and cancel the order, especially since I wasn't convinced I actually needed them. He gave me a $200 check, which consequently BOUNCED! Yes, a medical professional bounced a $200 check! So I had to hassle them for a few more weeks to give me a new check along with the bank fees I was charged. He wrote it to me and never even apologized once for inconveniencing me. He made it seem like I was really inconveniencing HIM! Anyway, I felt very lucky that in the end I only escaped with having wasted my co-pay. Fast forward to today: the last week in January. I get a call from him saying: "You're orthodics came in!" He had no recollection of what had transpired during the summer. He still tried to convince me to buy them for $200. HA! Stay away.
