Orlando Shakes is an institution of the central Florida arts scene, offering an annual season of classics and contemporary work for children and adults. In the adult season, you can expect at least one Shakespeare production, often including a unique Bare Bard (original practices) production, rehearsed and performed in the style it would have been done in Shakespeare's day. In the children's season, musicals running an hour or less are a great fit for engaging families. A full service bar is available to enjoy during the shows. I've been a volunteer for this organization and love watching the wide variety of programming. Parking is convenient at Loch Haven Park, though the parking lot may get busy on days the Orlando Museum of Art also has an event. Valet is available.

Wonderful opportunity to watch such talented performers. Great chance to be exposed to the arts. Definitely will return next year. Parking can be a challenge so if you can, park on street.

Love this theatre!! I enjoy this intimate venue where you can sit all around the stage. Every show I have seen here has been great, the actors are very talented and you can tell they are passionate about what they do! Friendly staff in the theatre.

I'm a current subscriber to the Orlando Shakes theater company and recently had the opportunity to attend a performance of the holiday classic "A Christmas Carol". The Orlando Shakespeare Theater (Orlando Shakes) produces classic, contemporary, and children's plays. The current Subscription Season has seven productions and includes professional actors from throughout the country. There are four theaters at the Center with seating accommodations ranging from 70 through 324 seats however, because of the intimate nature of the theaters there really isn't a bad seat to be had. As I've experienced more of the artistic productions and companies throughout the Orlando region, I've come to appreciate the wonderful amount of talent and creativity we have available in this area...and the Orlando Shakes has and continues to be one its standard bearers.

I attended "Miss Nelson is Missing!" the musical based on the children's book on my son's class field trip today. The musical is there until Nov 22. It runs approximately 45 minutes with no intermission. The play was fun! We enjoyed the sets, the actors and the special effects. The play is about a nice teacher named Miss Nelson who goes missing. She is replaced with a mean substitute teacher Viola Swamp. The students try to solve the mystery of her disappearance and bring her back.

Great show. Check the calendar as all aren't by Sir William.

If you spend any time in Orlando, you have to see a show at Orlando Shakes. Contrary to the name, they do run other plays. They parking is easy and it doesn't hold a ton of people. Maybe a hundred to 120. Everyone gets a great seat. The ticket folks were great except for the two ushers who decided to loudly chit chat in the back during the prologue. It is really hard to understand William S in the 21st Century is the Prologue was a wildly appreciated way to set the scene and give the backstory. We watched MacBeth which was a fabulous rendition and the director gets my Uber-applause. I'm sure all the others are equally as good. During intermission they have snacks and drinks for most tastes. Take advantage of that!

Review #918. What a lovely and precious gem located in Loch Haven Park in Orlando. My wife and I went one evening to see their production of The Three Musketeers. I had no idea what I was in for, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The first thing I noticed was how small and intimate the theater is. My wife and I were seated in the upper level, and you could still see the color of their eyes. Their version of The Three Musketeers was totally entertaining and absolutely hilarious at times. For example, there is one scene where it's a three on three sword fight. And just as they begin the sword fight, they all go into slow motion. As an audience, you are not expecting this, but when it happens it's actually very funny. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, we were looking into purchasing other performances, but at this time we are under lockdown with the coronavirus. Rest assured that when they open back up, my wife and I will be purchasing tickets for other performances. You will be supporting the local arts, local performers, and they have a nice bar too. If you have never been to Orlando Shakes, take a chance, buy a couple of tickets to any of their upcoming performances, you will be very pleased. And that is because I say so! Enjoy.

Love this theater and all the people involved in it. I went with a large group of about 140 children and 20 adults and saw the Miss Nelson is Missing performance. It was fabulous. When we arrived, they showed up to our seats and got us settled promptly before the start of the the show. The actors and actresses were excellent and highly entertaining. The show had jokes for both kids and adults so it's fun for all ages. Overall an A+ for a good time.

A little piece of Broadway in our own backyard! I just can't say enough wonderful things about Orlando Shakes! I've been taking my son to performances since he was 5 years old and it's always such a great experience for the both of us. I think it's so important now a days to disconnect kids from electronics and have them watch a live performance. The actors are always so engaging and professional. We watched a sneak peak of Miss Nelson is missing and I definitely recommend 10/10! I highly recommend getting on their email mailing list for the latest shows and specials. The tickets are also very affordable.

I went to the Shakes for the first time for the Orlando Fringe Festival. It is a beautiful venue and the staff are engaging and very helpful. As a first time Fringe goer, I was unsure where the different venues were (Pink, Blue, etc.) as they did not seem easily marked on the inside. I realized that the color balloon display in front of each theatre section signified the color of the venue. Duh! The directions outside of the venue were fairly well marked, but if its the first time you are going for the Fringe, I suggest you look for the balloon display to find the correct venue! Great overall experience!

Spectacular! We recently came here for the Fringe Winter Mini-Fest. Yes, now you don't have to wait a whole year for the festival. The performances were outstanding. It's intimate, thus you feel connected to the artists. They have a small area where they sell drinks and snacks. If you haven't seen a show here, please do. They present classic and new plays. They even have acting classes for the little ones. Overall, 5 stars.

The evening shimmered with energy--a perfect overture to the season. From the first note to the final bow, the cast carried us on a journey that pulsed with rhythm, harmony, and heart. Their voices soared, their timing danced, and their presence filled the stage with a brilliance that could rival any marquee in New York or London. Theatre, at its best, is a living symphony--dialogue weaving into song, song flowing into story--and this production captured that cadence flawlessly. As the curtain fell, I was struck by the artistry that thrives here in our own backyard. Having lived in Dubai, Las Vegas, London, and New York, I know the grandeur of global stages. Yet nowhere have I found such a steady stream of performances, each one crafted with care, directed with vision, and performed with soul, as I do here in the world's vacation capital. Heather Alexander and Roy Alan, the founders, discovered a rare niche: a theatre that doesn't rely on spectacle or technology, but on the timeless power of human talent. While Dr. Phillips Center dazzles with scale, the Winter Park Playhouse enchants with intimacy--family spirit, authenticity, and artistry that stands the test of time. This was more than entertainment; it was a celebration of craft, community, and pure theatrical joy. Honky Tonk Angels is a salute to the season and a reminder that the greatest value in Central Florida theatre lies not in spectacle, but in the artistry of performers who give themselves fully to the stage. Don't miss this production--it's a standing ovation waiting to happen.

I love how beautiful the stairwell is going up to two. I love how much they have expanded their food and beverage line up over the years. The sound tends to be pretty good, the communication from the theatre is always amazing. They waive fees if you come to the box office to buy your tickets. The seats are comfy and almost every seat has a solid view. The box seats are the exception so be warned. The volunteers are always amazing and they are so nice. It would be cool if they opened a second location that served coffee because that line for espresso beverages is always really long. I love the breadth of show types. Swan Lake October 2025…read more This is one of those performances that stays with you long after the curtain comes down. I saw Swan Lake back in October 2025, and somehow I'm only just now sitting down to write about it.... I apologize for not getting this review out sooner. The last time I had seen this ballet... I was in my twenties, which feels like another lifetime ago. Swan Lake sits right up there with The Nutcracker in terms of recognition. You grow up knowing it, even if you've never actually seen it live. As a little girl, it lives in your imagination. The costumes, the movement, the elegance, and that quiet belief that maybe one day you could be that dancer. For a lot of people, that dream gets planted early and never fully leaves. Walking into this performance, I felt that history. Not just personal, but cultural. Swan Lake carries weight because it's about illusion versus truth, about wanting something you can't quite have and mistaking appearances for reality. Tension is built into every movement. Swan Lake is not the same experience as The Nutcracker. The Nutcracker is festive and structured more like a showcase. Swan Lake is continuous, demanding, and far more intense. The lead roles require stamina, precision, and emotional control from start to finish, and the corps de ballet has to move in perfect synchronization with no room for error. It really is the Olympics of ballet. This performance delivered. It was polished, immersive, and held my attention the entire time. I found myself watching not just the choreography, but the control, the discipline, and the way each dancer carried themselves on stage. One dancer in particular stood out to me, Bernardo Betancor. He was exactly what you imagine when you think of a leading male ballerina. He carried a statuesque presence on stage and was, without question, easy on the eyes. More than that, he had command. The kind that makes your eyes go back to him whether you mean to or not. I'm glad I finally made it back to Swan Lake after all these years, and even more glad I didn't miss this one. Huge thanks to Ronnald M. for pulling me into this night, because let's be honest... this is not exactly a bad way to spend an evening.
