The service was beyond friendly, the staff had a way of making you feel you were part of their family. We ordered the baba ganoush dip for starters and the Mixed Grill and Warm Chicken Salad for mains. Each mouthful delivered good quality food with serious flavours. The meat was melt in your mouth goodness. Before we left, one staff member showed genuine interest in our experience as first timers. We'll be back! Sultans has a real family/community vibe. On Friday and Saturday nights they have a belly dancer. There is take away and a drive through but I recommend to enjoy the dine-in experience.

So when my 4th cousin (Aussie - Turkish) suggested Sultan's, stating that it was "the best Turkish food in the state" (maybe even country), we clearly had to check it out. We showed up on a weekend night, parking in an unassuming strip mall. The first thing that hits me is the aroma of roasting meat and the plume of smoke coming out of the chimney. Best of all, it smells like real meat, like in a legit kebap restaurant in Turkey. As soon as we head inside, we're greeted with quite the familiar site. Long tables of giant food platters, huge families talking loudly, the shop proprietor playing keyboard and singing, and lots of kids dancing in the middle of the restaurant. This is generally what our typical Turkish weddings look like, btw. We ordered a mixed platter of dips and bread to start, followed by a giant mixed grill, falafel platter, and my favourite, Iskender Kebap. Oh my lord, everything was ridiculously good, and most definitely authentic. Firstly, the eggplant was char-grilled, not roasted in a 400 degree oven; you can always tell the difference. The meat tasted like it was flown in from the motherland, the Pide bread was hot and fluffy, and even the yogurt was homemade. A couple of glasses of Raki, some great company, and some very authentic food left us stuffed and happy. We would definitely come back here again, now if only it wasn't located in the middle of nowhere...

They've been there, same location, different names over the years, since at least 2001 when I first tried a kebab as an inquisitive 13 year old. Frozen in time, their display and menu has not changed. Most importantly, the kebab has remained a tasty one, varying only slightly in quality depending on the staff (predominately middle eastern) rolling your kebab. The range on the menu is typical kebab joint fare. Lamb & chicken kebabs are available with their beloved lettuce, tomato and onion (if you're a veteran of kebab joints, that's the order you'll hear the salads shilled in, too!) plus extras such as cheese, tabouli, olives, pineapple and mushrooms. Hot chips are also available, although not once have I ever seen the fryer cooking up a batch. It's all about the kebabs, here. Dolmades (Mediterranean rice wrapped in vine leaves) and even the option for a "kebab burger" is on offer, but as adventurous as I am with my food, I can't seem to go past my old faithful Jumbo chicken with cheese and BBQ sauce, hold the rabbit food. Occasionally, I've done a Lamb kebab with hot chilli sauce, garlic yogurt, cheese and olives which is a bonafide winner, but really, I don't come here for adventure, I stop by because I know exactly what I'm getting. A generously stuffed kebab that'll fill a hole for under 15 bucks. Nothing more, nothing less. 3 1/2 Stars.
