If you spend $25 or more you can get free gift. Just show your receipt to the person near the exit. I can find packaged jackfruits and rambutan at this store.

A surprisingly good Asian market, despite the grungy exterior (and interior to be honest). I was a little wary when entering, but after browsing & finding more and more items I just had to buy... I decided this place was a classic don't judge a book blah blah blah. The produce was fresh & cheap. A large assortment of odd beverages that tickled our fancy and our funny bones. A great selection of sauces. Good quality miso. Lots of snack-y items. Fresh seafood & what looks like a roasted meat station as well. The check-out process was a little slow, but there were plenty of interesting items at the register to peruse. I think if you show your receipt to the guy near the exit, you can score freebies (depending on how much you spend). I was too shy to do this, but I saw others walking out with cookies, eggs etc. Another bonus about this market is that it is located in a little plaza with a decent banh-mi shop, a great pho restaurant & some other beauty type places as well. You can definitely get a lot done here. Plus the parking was easier to deal with than some of the Washington Ave markets for sure.

Was supposed to be ground pork @ $1.99/lb

Love the selection & prices but the workers are shady AF. Check the labels before you check out -here's lean ground pork that was supposed to be 1.99/lb ‍

Oregon Market appears to be the sibling of Vietnamese market in the Wing Phat Shopping Mall at 11th and Washington, although perhaps a bit cleaner and easier to navigate. It is connected via the small inner space between stores to the Pho Ha Saigon restaurant, so it is convenient to shop and eat (or vice versa). It always amazes me who much more variety of produce these Asian grocers have than the typical American supermarket. Green leafies from peas, cabbage, lettuce, and every other form of vegetation are washed and bagged for consumption with any one of a score of sauces that go so well with the sautéed end product that is often just discarded in the West. What's more significant is that it all tastes great fresh from the wok. Quite an eye opener. The fresh fish is ready for inspection and selection. The boxes of live Blue Claws await their delectable demise. If you wonder if there is MSG in your dishes in Chinatown, just walk down the spice aisle and choose from among several large cans and boxes of the white powder. It is more prevalent than salt. If you buy enough, when you go to the cashier you will be offered a free bottle or box of whatever they have in surplus that day.

The end of South Philly, PA I do like this asian mart. It is well stocked. It just seems to have all the fresh veggies I need and good selection too. I bought my electric rice pressure cooker from here. They have a lot of Asian sauces to choose from as well.

If I go, its only a few times a year just to buy frozen dumplings, tea, prepackaged goods. I try my best to avoid the fish area.

Spices are also sold for super low prices, so I never buy them at a regular grocery store anymore.

So 1 cow heart, 5 lbs of chicken wings, 2 large smoked cow bones, 1 turkey backbone, 2 turkey wings, 1 neck, 1lb of gizzards, 4lbs of bacon, 3 cornish hens and 6 steaks-- over 70lbs of food--- that he had to huff around that market!! cuz he said he could.. My dining companion argued strenuously that pickles have no place on a hoagie but I ignored him lol. I skipped the mayo tho. Surprisingly Dan takes credit cards and Apple Pay, $5 min. He keeps long hours for such a simple sandwich shop. Dan's used to be a butcher & convenience store, maybe back in 1947. Now the shelves are mostly empty except for chips soda and milk, and the butcher case mostly has coleslaw and deli meats. It's actually kind of depressing if you walk to the back. Its a small old school deli that slices the meat to order and provides service with a smile. I was working in Fishtown and checked yelp real quick to see if there was a new spot nearby that I could try for lunch. Dan's had very good reviews and it was less than 5 minutes away. I think its a husband and wife that run this place but I wasn't 100% sure. I ordered a large Italian hoagie and woman behind the counter grabbed the roll from the clear bin in front of the counter and the gentlemen sliced the meat fresh for my Italian and added peppers, oil & vinegar and SPO. There are not many places that still operate like a true old school deli and I really enjoyed it. As she handed me the hoagie she asked if I had ever been there before to which I answered "no." She said well you'll be back. I loved the confidence and she was 100% right! If you are in the area and love a good Italian hoagie Dan's is a must try.

No disrespect at all to Heather Thomason, because this really is her brain child. I've loved following her for a few years now and was happy her kickstarter was backed. I really wanted to contribute and fought for it a bit, but it was backed before I made up my mind. I did wrestle with it for a bit, about what package I would get, but I knew it would be logistically hard to support. We walked in and saw a lot of interesting items. Duck Eggs really caught our eye, but we didn't want to carry them around with us. Decided to leave the store, go to ITV for a drink, and come back before they closed at 6:00 PM. Ordered a nice cut of flank steak and the duck eggs. Maybe for a Kangaroo burger later this week? I just love the idea here, where Primal wants to be more interconnected with farms. I'm really into better quality eggs now, for when we make pasta or things like that. Knowing what the animal ate, really helps make a better product when egg is the star.

I loved the stories and reputation that Heather Thomason set during her time at Kensington…read moreQuarters. And although I still haven't gotten around to trying it during that time, I was looking forward to her and Cecille May's commitment to make sustainable, pasture-raised meat more readily available to Philadelphia when they branched out on their own for Primal Supply Meats (https://www.phillymag.com/foobooz/2016/05/31/kensington-quarters-butcher-heads-out-on-her-own/). And when I sampled their offerings at spots like Stargazy, Garage, and Tired Hands Fermenteria it added up to some of the best meat dishes I've had. While they did an amicable job of providing their meats to restaurants and farmers markets, Primal Supply really needed a butcher shop of their own to better prepare Philly for the carnivore cravings that their meats illicit. And when I heard that they were set to open a few blocks away from me in the spot that used to house the old East Passyunk hardware store (https://www.phillymag.com/foobooz/2017/12/15/primal-supply-butcher-shop-east-passyunk/), it lead to some of the best sausages that I've had (and I say this as a Cappuccio's die hard! - https://www.yelp.com/biz/cappuccios-meats-philadelphia). the bacon & thyme pork sausage was sweet yet smoky and savory at the same time. And the pork Vindaloo yielded an ample amount of Indian spices and heat. Add in the ability to get beef, pork, chicken, liver, lamb, goat stew, and even pet food, and you'll find a huge variety of options. They also carry local cheeses from the likes of Birch Run Farms, pasta from Severino, and the oppotunity to join their pay as you go Butcher's Club meat program, making it another solid addition to East Passyunk!
