    Italian hoagie

The BEST Italian hoagie in Philly. Flavors are out of this world. Meats are fresh and veggies are very refreshing. They never miss!! But BEWARE: it will be messy

A great family-owned hole in the wall! Very fairly priced. I got the Italian hoagie and it did not disappoint! The bread was nice and soft and they didn't skimp out on any fillings. The veggies tasted fresh and every single ingredient worked together so well. There's a reason this place has been open for so many years!

Dan is a friendly guy and he works efficiently and quickly to keep all of the customers satisfied but also engaged. Within minutes he produced two sandwiches, all while talking with us and giving us info about the shop and the neighborhood. We got exactly what we ordered plus we were able to customize with peppers and mayo very easily, I really recommend the italian hoagie and the roast pork! Fresh toppings, personal touch, and some of the tastiest looking pork chops in the glass case. Great neighborhood joint, will grab my deli meat here too in the future!

Large Italian hoagie with LTO, SPO, mayo, sweet peppers: $10.

I'm halfway through eating my Italian hoagie, and it's so good I had to stop and write this review. I've lived in this city my entire life and this might be the best hoagie I've ever had. $10 for a large which is big enough to feed two people. They accept cards for purchases over $5. Standard choice of adding LTO, salt/pepper/oregano, oil/vinegar, mayo, and hot or sweet peppers to your hoagie. All of the meat was cut fresh to order. The sharp provolone is so good I could cry. Moved into the neighborhood about five years ago and can't believe it took me so long to try this place. Will definitely be back!

Solid spot & great staff! Stopped in and grabbed two hoagies, they did not disappoint!

Dan's Italian Hoagie is SO good, I had to paint it! The best $10 I ever spent!

Dan's is like the last of an almost extinct species! This is not a slick new deli, it's run by a butcher, Dan, that's worked in this shop since 1952, when he was just a boy. It's one of the only original businesses in fishtown that's not been killed. I hesitated going in for a long time because on the surface; I judged by the looks of the inside of the store. What I discovered was this is THE VERY BEST source for an Italian Hoagie; it's incredible! I planned on just trying one for lunch on my way to the studio but ended up so in love with it, I had to paint half of it (see image uploaded!). Ive enjoyed Dan's fresh made Italian (sweet and hot) sausage. I rarely get in on the day he makes it so I just buy it frozen. He freezes it on the 2nd day, because he makes it fresh but w/o any preservatives, and he'll explain that for sure. This sausage is incredible. The ladies working the register are sweet. Dont let looks fool you, this really is one of the most special gems in fishtown; support Dan!!!

I've never written a review in my life but had to for this place... best Italian hoagie, genuine people and good prices. A classic

Love you Dan cannot wait to see you once again with delivery.

Hands down best Italian hoagie in the area. Fresh bread - quality meat - crisp lettuce - topped with spices and oils.

In my opinion, this is the best hoagie in Fishtown (sorry, Primos). Also the ground beef is freshly ground when you order - great stuff!

So 1 cow heart, 5 lbs of chicken wings, 2 large smoked cow bones, 1 turkey backbone, 2 turkey wings, 1 neck, 1lb of gizzards, 4lbs of bacon, 3 cornish hens and 6 steaks-- over 70lbs of food--- that he had to huff around that market!! cuz he said he could.. They also carry other big game meat and I love that the venison is always fresh and makes my venison chili and stew perfect. I've been buying meats and specialty meats here for years, def worth the drive. No disrespect at all to Heather Thomason, because this really is her brain child. I've loved following her for a few years now and was happy her kickstarter was backed. I really wanted to contribute and fought for it a bit, but it was backed before I made up my mind. I did wrestle with it for a bit, about what package I would get, but I knew it would be logistically hard to support. We walked in and saw a lot of interesting items. Duck Eggs really caught our eye, but we didn't want to carry them around with us. Decided to leave the store, go to ITV for a drink, and come back before they closed at 6:00 PM. Ordered a nice cut of flank steak and the duck eggs. Maybe for a Kangaroo burger later this week? I just love the idea here, where Primal wants to be more interconnected with farms. I'm really into better quality eggs now, for when we make pasta or things like that. Knowing what the animal ate, really helps make a better product when egg is the star.

I loved the stories and reputation that Heather Thomason set during her time at Kensington…read moreQuarters. And although I still haven't gotten around to trying it during that time, I was looking forward to her and Cecille May's commitment to make sustainable, pasture-raised meat more readily available to Philadelphia when they branched out on their own for Primal Supply Meats (https://www.phillymag.com/foobooz/2016/05/31/kensington-quarters-butcher-heads-out-on-her-own/). And when I sampled their offerings at spots like Stargazy, Garage, and Tired Hands Fermenteria it added up to some of the best meat dishes I've had. While they did an amicable job of providing their meats to restaurants and farmers markets, Primal Supply really needed a butcher shop of their own to better prepare Philly for the carnivore cravings that their meats illicit. And when I heard that they were set to open a few blocks away from me in the spot that used to house the old East Passyunk hardware store (https://www.phillymag.com/foobooz/2017/12/15/primal-supply-butcher-shop-east-passyunk/), it lead to some of the best sausages that I've had (and I say this as a Cappuccio's die hard! - https://www.yelp.com/biz/cappuccios-meats-philadelphia). the bacon & thyme pork sausage was sweet yet smoky and savory at the same time. And the pork Vindaloo yielded an ample amount of Indian spices and heat. Add in the ability to get beef, pork, chicken, liver, lamb, goat stew, and even pet food, and you'll find a huge variety of options. They also carry local cheeses from the likes of Birch Run Farms, pasta from Severino, and the oppotunity to join their pay as you go Butcher's Club meat program, making it another solid addition to East Passyunk!
