My family has been buying Pork Roasts and Italian Sausage here for as long as I can remember. They offer a great selection of quality meats at affordable prices. They are super friendly and will gladly write down how long to cook your roasts & at what temperature if you ask. I live in South Jersey and still travel to South Philly for this butcher shop! 5 Stars from me!! read more

I really love coming here to get my poultry and turkey products. Yes, I travel from West Philly to South Philly to get everything I need. I make an entire trip out of it and I love how patient the staff is. anytime I have any questions or needs something cut a specific way they're more than willing to comply. Even listening to the other demands from customers with more demanding orders, they handle them with such grace. But the meats are always fresh. I never have a problem with my orders. I usually order enough meats to last a month or two so I don't have to travel back and forth to south philly. They really got a lifelong customer out of me. Yes, they do take credit/debit cards and cash. If you're an SNAP recipient I believe they take that as well. I think it's best to go in the morning so you can get a good parking spot. read more

Go there often. Best food and service! You won't be disappointed! Roast pork with gravy is great for party and holiday.

Meats are always fresh and I've never had a problem. Definitely my go to for just family dinners to having family events

The "Goomba" was the greatest! It has been a long time since I've gone to the meat market instead of the grocery store. With social media and wanting to get the "aesthetic" captured, I've been going out to eat a lot more than cooking in at home. But all that is changing! I stopped into Cannuli's for some good ol' quality meats, and "The Goomba" is the guy you need to see. I had no clue what cuts of meat I wanted since I haven't heated up my pots in so long. He was amazing. His knowledge of meat and which cuts would be good for what, was just what I needed. His pleasant demeanor was a plus. I was in there, easily, much longer than I needed to be only because we talked so much...and about everything! When I left I had everything I needed for our weekend BBQ and goodies for the deep freezer. For person's who are kosher, they keep their meats separate. I will absolutely be back for my next meat order. And when you go, let "The Goomba" know I sent you. read more

I purchased chicken wings and some of my chicken was bruised badly and I had to throw them out. I also told the gentleman that I DO NOT EAT JUMBO WINGS. I asked for small wings and I also asked to please make sure that he doesn't put any large wings in my bag. Well of course when I get home I have huge wings in my bag, which I will not eat nor feed to my family. I am very annoyed because I don't have money to throw away. They have lost me as a customer because this is like the 3rd time. read more

After months of talking about it, my friends and I decided to have a pig roast. We researched a few places and came across Cannuli's. I pass this place all of the time on my way to Claudio's and Talluto's, and the meat also looks fresh. So, we ordered a 50 pound roasted pig. I believe the total cost of a 50-pound, deboned and roasted pig was around $250, and boy was it worth every penny. The pork was cooked to perfection. We picked up the pig from the store, and it was ready when they said it would be. It was gutted, deboned, stuffed back in with meat and sewed closed. It was wrapped in tin foil when we picked it up. The seasoning on the pork was delicious. We decided to go with a latin theme and made several latin side dishes. It really worked well with the flavors of the pork. Everyone really enjoyed the pig and after 20 people stuffed their faces, there were still several pounds left over. It was a real amazing meat experience, and will probably become an annual ritual. I highly recommend this place for your meat needs. read more

For very special occasions for years, my family has been getting a whole roasted pig. It is to die for! The meat is so flavorful, moist and tender. They give you some au jus with the meat if you like your sandwich with some gravy. Also get some sharp provolone on the side for sandwiches. Their rolls are great too. They'll help you load the pig into the car when you arrive. Your guests will be wowed as it makes a really cool presentation, too. The people working there are also really helpful when trying to figure out what side to order. I think the whole pigs need to be ordered a bit in advance so check their website. Although I do feel a little bad for the piggy, it's just SO good and a nice tradition for special occasions. read more

Cannuli's Quality Meats & Poultry - Whole roasted pig - Meat Shops Near Me - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Purchased chicken parts for bone broth. Pleased with my purchase. Parking is painful in that area though so go early.

We got a 60 lb roasted pig for our neighborhood block party. It was the main guest at the party. Everyone raved about it. It was done to perfection with the skin so crunchy. Thank you, Cannuli's. You mad the party a hit. read more

Went in today to ask for a specific cut. The big foreign grey haired butcher proceeded to get smart with me , give the worst service I have ever experienced . Told me to go somewhere else if I didnt like it. Refused to allow me to speak with the manager. I hope management reads this, he is a poor representation of your business and you should keep him away from your customers. read more

Whole roasted pig with super crispy skin, stuffed with pork loin & seasoned to perfection!! Hubby and I always have an end of summer bash, however moving to NJ we were hard pressed to find some of the same items we used to get in Cali, where to begin? Like finding a butcher shop that also roasts whole pigs or a warehouse liquor store like BevMo. After reading up on Yelp we decided to go with Cannuli's and we have gone nowhere else since. The butcher I spoke to was not only helpful with explaining the ordering process and prices he also suggested any catered side dishes I might need. He was pleasant to talk to and I felt really comfortable giving them our business. So I ordered the 60lb whole pig stuffed with pork loin and scheduled to pick up early afternoon the day of the party. Hubby and Mini-Me drove to pick it up and let me tell you, they said and I quote, " IT was the longest and hardest drive they ever had to make! that pig smelled so good it took all the self control they had to not pull over and dig in and ONLY- ONLY because it was wrapped so well for traveling, they knew I would notice!". That says a lot. I have included a picture of the pig before it was dug into by our guests. Cannuli's also give you a gallon jug of the roasting juices and it definitely was appreciated. So if you are looking for a whole pig for you to cook or them, large or small crowd this is the place to go. Also the whole butcher case is loaded with great meat items we also just make the drive to get items for stocking up our freezer and summer BBQ's in general. **** SUPER IMPORTANT--- the pig is gonna be juicy and I mean juicy- so we have found --and what no one tells you.. is how do you keep it all goodness confined in one spot without the juice and pig falling apart and making a mess. We go to BJ's or Costco and got the super heavy duty cardboard long boxes that you get to carry your stuff. Once we got the pig which is all packed on a board like those 6 ft sandwiches.... we just measured the boxes. We cut the middles off of two and the sides completely off of one and then duct tapped them so it was like one big long box with a continuous 2-3 inch side around it. Then we lined the bottom and sides with heavy duty foil- two layers, then added, newspaper on top of foil, then saran wrap around the whole box to hold it all in place and a final 2 layers of heavy duty foil around the whole box, laid the board and the pig in that and put it outside on the table. This wrapping prevents leakage. read more

Known in simpler times at Cannulli's House of Pork, this is a classic old-school butcher shop where you can pick up parts of any animal you'd like to eat. Known for selling whole roasted pigs ready to go, Cannulli's will also sell you a whole, raw dressed pig -- any poundage you like -- and you can have a manly time charring it over a giant fire in your backyard, with all you man friends admiring your massive hunk of meat. For those with more refined carnivore tastes, have one of the friendly butchers saw a cow's femur into 1.5-inch lengths and roast. Spread that soft marrow on toasted bread for the finest meat butter experience you will ever have. A five-star butcher shop for price, service and selection. This is all commerical-type feedlot beef/pork/chicken -- no grass-fed stuff. Hopefully they will add top-quality grass-fed meat in the future. read more

Love this place! The guys working in there are always really helpful, knowledgeable and friendly to everyone. They also have some of the best meatballs in the city in a gravy that is equally as good. 6 meatballs w/gravy for $9 is a steal. Oh and try their Italian wedding soup too. read more

It my first time stopping in here the day before Thanksgiving. It's less busier than I expected to be. All the other ones in the Italian Market butcher shop had a nice line or a crowd. This one seems to be the less hectic and hassle one out of all the others. I like the friendly service with a smile. Quick and fast with decent price. Not over the top price and lots of different meat selections. The place looks clean and have that old school neighborhood store feel to it. All and all this shop is good except for one mistake that's why I gave it a three instead of a four. The young man that took my order forgot the basic sanitation rule. Gloves, got to have disposable gloves showing. Not only did he not wear any. Right after he grab my turkey legs, he didn't wash his hands. He was also handling money afterward. He neglected basic sanitation that could prevent food born sickness. I understand old school ways but they don't work in these times now. I've use to be a line cook and a chef. I been through all my sanitation test and licenses. Lucky I was in a rush. If others like me saw it. It would of been a different story. read more

I've been going to "9th Street", as my family and community affectionately call it, since I was a child. I remember my mom dragging me into Cannuli's among other shops and I hated it due to the smell of raw meat. Now, I don't even smell the meat. What I mean is I do but it isn't a bad smell to me at all. It's more of a nostalgic smell. I moved away from Philly and headed to the south (Atlanta) and I could not find a meat market/ butcher that compared to Cannuli's. I found a cute little butcher boutique that had a cute steak medallion wrap with a piece of onion and a sprig of herbs all wrapped in the package together. They paired it with the suggestion of a nice red wine which I thought was sweet. But when I'm shopping for my family, I'm not looking for sweet, or cute or dainty packaging. I'm looking for affordability and convenience and suggestions, when I ask for them, and that brown butcher paper- Cannuli's has all that. I love the breakfast sausage selections the maple turkey sausage is my favorite. They also have maple turkey bacon which is delicious. Recently when I was there a woman recommended the sage ground beef for my son's spaghetti and it was A-mazing! I bought a couple t-bones and some lamb chops there and I swear the steaks were so tender and huge, I couldn't even finish it. I visit maybe once a week as I just moved back and didn't pick up a deep freezer yet. When my daughter moved into her 1st apartment last month, I went shopping at Cannuli's to stock her fridge. You can't beat their prices. I think I got 3 or 5 lbs of wings for $20 or $30 bucks? I split them down the middle along with everything else I bought and gave my daughter half for her place. I'll be going back today to shop for the week, you should too. FYI, they close early on Sundays. read more

made my first visit to cannuli's yesterday after doing a quick google search for the best butchers in philly. im happy to report that i was not disappointed at all. i figured on a saturday morning they'd be crowded so i made sure i got there before they opened the door. i was the first one there. unfortunately, about five or six more customers came after me and due to the fact that they were all ladies i found myself giving up my first spot in line by merely holding the door open for the ladies to enter. anyway, the shop is heavily staffed for such a small establishment. they had ample staff to handle a busy store with ease and efficiency. they were fast and friendly and waited on us quickly. the irish gentleman who waited on me was extremely helpful. he answered all of my questions about the product and even told me what some of his favorites were. i also found the prices to be quite reasonable. i ended up buying smoked pork chops, pork sage sausage, lamb patties and lamb chops. so far ive tried the pork chops and the sausage and they were fresh and delicious. this will be my new go to spot for fresh meats. id highly recommend cannuli's to anyone looking for fast service and quality product. read more

We miss you, Cannuli's! This was our hands-down go-to for the best meat in Philly. Now that we've moved to Savannah, we've been hard pressed to find a butcher with as much variety and good quality meats as this place. Plus the prices are very reasonable for fresh cuts. Our typical orders included fresh and thick cut bacon (usually 3lbs and not skin; we love our bacon), smoked pork chops, butter steaks (for a slice of heaven at scary cheap prices), slacks of ribs, and other steaks. They also have fresh eggs, salted pork bits, pre-made dishes, etc. We also loved getting a wiff of a freshly smoked pig being carried out to someone's car. Our only regret is that we haven't tried one (yet!). Also if you're getting your steaks or chops cut in the back, get the house seasoning on it. I'm gluten-free and haven't had problems with it. In fact, we loved it! Next: I'll be tagging along with you when you get a smoked pig! ;) read more

More poultry please! I always love my trips to this place. I go strictly for the poultry products and always purchase enough for about 6 months (small family). The gentlemen are always nice and very helpful. The prices are fair....lower than in Reading Terminal AND that sage sausage is heavenly! Everyone who has had it, marvelous how good it is for bkfast, but also tasty in lasagna and dressing (if you use meat). Can't wait to head back soon. read more

Time is conflicting online; please update. Came from NY just to see a sign on door stating do not open on Sundays on July and August.

People really buy meat at Shoprite? I don't...the only place I spend my money on when it comes to butchered meats is A REAL BUTCHER!!! I happened upon here many years ago with my mom on our traditional Saturday mornings of meat shopping. I used to hate this place, vowed to be a vegetarian every time and wanted to puke over the hanging swine. Fast forward 20 something years later and I'm back returning to the same tradition. I usually go early during the week and it is always busy, but the guys get you in and out quickly. The meat is fresh, cut to order, any thickness you could imagine. They also season your meat free of charge. I picked up a lamb shoulder during one visit and they took the bone out, trimmed the fat, seasoned and packaged it up perfectly! The atmosphere is fin, lively and upbeat..it keeps the lines moving, the customers are likewise-i guess fresh meat can do that to folks! read more

Great prices and you can find almost everything you need here. I'm a vegetarian but I shop here for our three dogs so we buy in bulk. I'm sure everyone here wonders why I burn through 20lbs+ of assorted meat a week, too. They have a poultry-selling sister next door.. the chicken quarters are less than a $1 per pound when you buy 20lbs. Gizzards, pig's feet, ground meat, pork shoulder, cow hearts, lamb ribs.. sweetbreads.. liver.. The butchers are all friendly and super helpful, too! read more

Garlic Butter chicken thighs. ... Oh, I need to write more than that? Okay. When we want high quality meat and reasonable prices, we go to Cannuli's. The staff is always super friendly and ready to answer any questions you may have. if you only buy one thing from Cannuli, buy the garlic butter chicken thighs. Drop them on the grill, cook them up in a pan on the stove, bake them in the oven, it doesn't matter. They are flavorful and tender no matter how they're cooked and need nothing else done to them but some delicious sides. read more

Here's the thing. Prices and quality of meat can't be beat. Everything is super fresh and a portion of cost of the grocery stores. For me, it all depends on the butcher you get. The butchers are often times so chauvinist that it makes me uncomfortable. They don't care, they don't have to care. Sometimes it's just too much. Won't stop me from going. I can hold my own, just beware! read more

Oh Mame if you need yourself some delicious meat you need to come down here. They cut anything you want to your specification fast and efficiently. The aroma that comes from the pigs roasting in the back and the giant bin of smoked meats brings a huge smile your face. Seriously the best butcher shop at the market. If you have an access card you can rack up the biggest meat bill you can find and good old Uncle Sam will take care of it for you. Only in America. read more

You can't beat Cannulli's Turkey Sausage. It makes the BEST turkey meatballs and turkey burgers you or your friends have ever had. Trust me. They stuff it with sage and you can add a little peprika, and an egg and there you go! 3lbs for $6.00. They also have a wide variety of other turkey and meat products. Everything fresh. Cleanliness is amazing for 9th st. I've been coming here for years and people that work there have become like friends because of it. They will definitely remember you if you are nice. read more

I wish we lived closer to Cannuli's because this place knows how to do poultry. We've tried their garlic/butter chicken thighs, which are super easy, as you can just stick em' on the grill and your friends will think you made some crazy marinade and worked really hard to impress them. I recently tried their buffalo hot sausage, which an employee told me tasted like hot wings, as it has hot sauce and blue cheese in it. He was right on the money because they were some of the best sausages EVER. The staff has always been friendly and helpful and you really can't beat their prices. I'm sold. read more

Cannuli's is GREAT and very reasonably priced. Chicken, meats, turkey is all fresh and good there. Recently, I've been ordering their cooked food too...chicken parm and oddly chicken meatloaf. Yeah, that sounds weird but, throw a little hot sauce on this stuff along with cannuli's tomato sauce and its like crack. Incredibly good. I've been privileged to go behind the scenes at cannuli's and these guys are CLEAN. Don't have to worry about contamination of meats here. Great service is a huge plus. read more

Canullis is one of those awesome Philly spots on 9th street. We come here once a week, we know all the butchers by name, and we buy 10-15lb of meat per trip. On Saturdays, with the exception of the end of the month, it will be BUSY. If you want faster service, just avoid Saturday. Charlie, the owner is also a really good guy. We've come to know him over the years and they will happily give you a tour of the back if you ask! (Not during peak times) Note: their bacon isn't good. Just FYI. read more

Great meat shop but the whole hog I purchased lacked TLC. The poorly seasoned shoulder meat that its stuffed with had a somewhat porkiness taste that usually is not present when properly slow cooked/smoked. The skin was inedible & the head with the sunken eyes & no apple showing the gnarled teeth freaked the kids out . It also wasn't singed full showing hair still on the body. The only thing I like about winter is that its the time to start drying/curing meat. Cannuli's is my first stop for eye roast, pork shoulder and belly. Usually crowded on a Saturday but its the only day I can get there. An eclectic group of people both behind and in front of the counter always provides the entertainment. Good Prices, fresh quality meat so what more can you ask for? Soon the Peperone, Brasiole, Sopressata and Pancetta will be finished and the blood pressure/cholestrol will be up but it will be sooo worth it. What would I do without you wonderful house of pork. read more
