Only thing I wish would change is having classes stacked. For example, for 3 classes, it's spread across 3 days. I wish they put two classes on one day to make work life easier. There is little to no formal training provided, which makes it difficult to feel fully prepared for the role. Instructors also often do not receive their schedules until the last minute, making it difficult to plan effectively and provide students with a consistent learning experience. Additionally, students do not receive their books at the start of the term, creating unnecessary barriers to instruction and student success. When questions or concerns arise, responses from administration are often delayed or absent, leaving instructors without timely guidance or support. At times, appointments scheduled by the director are not honored, which further contributes to concerns about communication, accountability, and professional support. The limited support from leadership also appears to contribute to high staff turnover, creating additional instability for both faculty and students. Overall, the lack of organization, consistent communication, responsiveness, and effective leadership significantly impacts the adjunct instructor experience.

In my pursuit of inquiring about a BSN in nursing, I came across Linfield College in PDX. I called…read moreand was told to email a gal who was in charge of admissions and that she was very helpful and would get me all the info I needed. The next day I sent her an email a couple paragraphs long stating that I would like to gather some info on transferring into the program, what that would entail being I have an undergrad, partially finished doctorate degree etc. I had also said that I would like to sit down with someone and go over my credit load and see what would transfer. Well this admissions gal, writes me back a two liner. Are you kidding me lady? Two sentences? All the info I just sent to you and asked about all I get is a two liner with no greeting? First off, if Linfield hired you to do their admissions, man oh man, they better reconsider. Has their admissions rate dropped since? Second, it definitely shows through in your return email that you clearly are not interested in future students. At the most, you could have at least said "Hello, thank you for inquiring at Linfield College, please see the info below to answer your many questions and if I can be of more help let me know, etc etc etc" Oh, but no, I got a two liner which clearly showed she had no interest in my inquiry and really didn't want me writing back for more info. Yayyyy Linfield, great way to promote your college, yes start with admissions why don't ya? I don't know folks, what is wrong with these private schools these days? It is becoming a joke. Anyway, in my quest I had also contacted OHSU and Concordia University and I have to say, if any of you are planning on applying to a nursing program in the greater PDX area than shoot for the two I just mentioned. Their staff were helpful, friendly, accommodating, and they actually call you instead of writing back a two liner. Guess where I will apply to and who will get my money? Linfield I suggest stepping up your game. It is 2015, and colleges are a dime a dozen these days.

I finally went into the library this week and was surprised how small it was; it was empty, which I consider perfect. There is WiFi and computers available. She took the time to get to know me and my goals. We were able to setup my an academic plan and she guided me through the whole process. I do not regret going back to school because my experience at Linfield is a great one.

When I politely asked why the promised call did not happen, Telahna responded defensively and shifted the responsibility onto me for not checking my email frequently enough. What concerned me most was that instead of focusing on resolving the issue efficiently, the interaction turned into an argument about who was at fault. This made the process longer and felt unproductive. In a professional setting, I believe it's more important to focus on solutions and clear communication rather than defending missteps. I hope future customer interactions are handled in a more solution-oriented and professional manner.

The head of the school is a Nurse Ratchett and doesn't like to be challenged but should be and often. If you can teach yourself this is the place because of the pace. The school itself sucks and I can't even imagine trying to pass with English as a second language- but the courses are the fastest and cheapest (especially if sponsored) way to go in Portland. Don't piss anyone off - they will retaliate. I even watched the director get served papers from a distraught former student (and laugh).

Despite the world's current state of pandemic, the instructors and leadership team are working ever so hard to create a new way of learning through social distancing and virtual education. Nearby schools, similar to IOT, have closed down (without notice) and we have taken in another 50% of our usual student population, to allow those students the opportunity to fulfill their dreams. Nurses are needed now and will be even more in the future. I give IOT five stars today for the growth that has occurred in the last couple months and in foresight of what is happening currently, to better the community and the medical field, change lives, and grow students into competent, capable, professionals who will provide safe and conscientious patient care.

Although I understood the reason for being let go (just business, nothing personal) it still stung a bit and caused some anxiety. My family and Ron, my boyfriend, were beyond helpful and supportive. My other partner , so to speak, in getting back in gear again was the fabulous staff here at Worksource Oregon. They advised and counseled me on everything from correct resume construction and interview skills to dressing the part of what I applied for (especially with a referral to Dress for Success). If I got a bit discouraged, they had my back and got me fluffed and folded to get back out and keep moving forward. I was also welcome to use their computers, fax machine, and printers during their office hours. With their help and guidance, I found a job that I wanted and an employer who wanted me. Not a bad deal, right? Their staff, experts in their fields, were just excellent and had just the right amount of compassion. It's easy to criticize the use of our tax dollars, and I know for sure I do from time to time. However, the use of our tax dollars for the Oregon Worksource Centers is so justifiable. Because of their staff and resources, I'm back in the real world again and complaining "it's too early to get up!!" And I couldn't be happier.

The biggest issue was communication. Getting answers to simple questions often took days or weeks, if I received a response at all. Students were constantly left waiting for information that directly affected their education, schedules, and personal lives. The tutoring services were another major disappointment. I had more tutoring sessions canceled than completed. In my experience, appointments with Zeke Garcia and Lauren Hawana were frequently canceled with little notice, sometimes at the scheduled start time after I had already arranged my day around them. Tutoring was promoted as a resource for student success, but it was unreliable and often unavailable when needed most. What frustrated me most was the constant gap between what was promised and what was actually provided. We were told there would be tutoring, resources, guidance, career assistance, and support throughout the program. Time and time again, those promises were not fulfilled. The schedule changes created serious consequences for me personally. We were told that schedules would remain set for each term, which lasts approximately 3.5 months. Instead, schedules were repeatedly changed, making it nearly impossible to maintain stable employment while attending school. The constant changes ultimately caused conflicts with my job, and I lost my employment as a result. Losing my job also meant losing my health insurance and financial stability during an already demanding nursing program. I understand that occasional changes happen, but the lack of consistency, communication, and support had real-world consequences for students. Rather than helping students succeed, I often felt like I was being forced to navigate unnecessary obstacles on my own. I completed the program despite these challenges, but I would strongly encourage prospective students to carefully research this school and get any promises regarding schedules, tutoring, student support, resources, and career assistance in writing before enrolling.
