Well I was stuck between Concorde and Sumner college, I ended up picking Sumner! I have CNA experience with an associate degree. This is the first time Sumner is teaching PN students 90% online and 10% on campus. If you want that type of flexibility then be sure you can handle what comes with it. I'm currently in the first week of school, I was completely shocked when Bailie told me there was a problem with releasing our E-book ( book materials) she said we will get them in a few days. I have problems logging in to the student portal to see my courses, and I was confused about what group I will be in for labs. Therefore, ending this week 1 with confusion. Overall, I'm confident in my ability to learn the upcoming material, however I'm cautious about how we are starting the first week with some disorganization. Truly have no idea why they have bad reviews? Every single staff member (teachers, admissions, support, freakin IT) have been nothing but nice and attentive. I just had my official first day and I leave as many Yelp reviews as I can on a weekly basis and I'm shocked to find out my school has a bad rep! It's just false to me and a little weird. RUN fast . I checked out another nursing College and it was like night and day . The lead administrator and her side kick are bold face liars . Why OSBN has approved this so called school for nursing is beyond me. My gut said to run after the proctor was so incredibly rude at test time . They are unorganized and frankly .. ghetto . 33,000 ? Yeah ok . Planes flying low over the building every 3 seconds too. No thanks. They pick and chose who they accept too. Questions ?? Good luck getting a straight answer . DON'T GO HERE!! I went for a one on one tour and the women was incredible rude to me and she snapped at me for asking her valid questions about the program. She also walked off on me on our tour. So disrespectful. She also couldn't tell me what university's the bachelors degree could transfer to and told me to basically lie to colleges about my degree so that they would accept me. School feels like a total scam. So happy I'm not waiting my time and money here. read more

in my time at Sumner college I witnessed a ton of mistreatment and red flags. Not just to myself but to other staff and more importantly to the students. Mainly at the hands of the president Joanna Russell. I broke off an engagement and had death happen in my family weeks from each other, I never once was asked how I was doing offered condolences or time off to mentally recover. I had the fact that my work slipped during that time thrown in my face numerous times over the past couple years of employment. We were told we couldn't celebrate any black history, women's history or Pride month for it alienates others (I.e. white men) They fire people for sport- especially the faculty. There is a reason they cant retain faculty members for more than a year. An immense amount of miscommunication or no communication at all between departments making policy and procedure null and void. Only the presidents favorite staff get respect and special treatment and everyone else is treated inferior and less than. Some staff and faculty get away with wearing yoga pants, berkenstocks, hoodies, and inappropriate short dresses while others have to be in business attire, even on Fridays when we were told we could dress casually. The rules apply to some but not all and the goal post often shifts. It is not uncommon for entire cohorts of students to complain about clinical sites, lack of communication and standards in teaching practices. For spending thousands of dollars per the 10 week term it is rightfully justified. Joanna Russell rules with an iron fist and creates an office of staff that fear her instead of feeling supported and respected. To be frank she doesn't know the first thing about great leadership. She stays upstairs in her office or not on campus at all so she has no idea what actually goes on, staff schedules and is not personable. Fails to train staff to standard, making it others problem or setting them up to fail. The cattiness of the older women in the office just adds to the unpleasant office environment. Overall I would not recommend any one to work or attend this establishment whatsoever. read more

Delrahim was a great teacher. Program is nice. I think Sumner has gotten better with every semester.

Due to my wordy review (I'm Italian, sorry), there was a character limit and the wave of reviews I see coming based on the school requesting them leads me to divulge more. I completed my second round of clinicals at a facility with Sumner grads as well as students in their final months of schooling. Here are actual encounters with some of them: -"You don't have to use the bleach wipes on that" when ONLY bleach kills C-Diff. Yes, yes, I do. -An exchange between myself and student about the fact that 1cc is equal to 1ml (it is!). He was sure that wasn't true. -"You can wear a gown, but I don't really like to." Standing outside of a room with contact precautions because of MRSA, VRE, CRE (and they had no idea what that stood for). Nosocomial infections galore, and no doubt as to why. Save yourself the $50k+ and go to an OCNE accredited program. Go where the Dean of Nursing and actual nursing faculty sit on your interview. I was told there would be 4-5 persons on my panel, including nursing instructors. There were 3, none of whom had any medical training/background. My best guess is they're so short handed with instructors, that it wasn't even possible (a comment regarding "there's a shortage of nursing educators" was made). Go where having prerequisites is appreciated, and you're not told that your personal experience as a complex medical mom doesn't matter. I wouldn't be so upset if the expectations were clear, they didn't waste my time, and the communication wasn't terrible each and every time. I was told to come in earlier than my interview so that Lisa could meet with me. She was eating, walked right by me, and I never did meet with her, but I sat there for over 30 minutes. I emailed the school hoping they would reconsider (with reasons why), as I'm not interested in the LPN program. I got a copy/paste reply. I can thank Sumner for one thing, and that's for fanning the flames burning inside of me so intensely that I know I will be an RN. Let the fires light the way. I immediately registered for A&P I at the community college across town, and I'm retaking 7+ year old prerequisites, and will apply to multiple OCNE-accredited schools in the area (and the 3rd time will be the charm!). THAT is dedication. Because of the previously poor NCLEX pass rates, they now spend more of the curriculum on NCLEX prep, which means sacrificing actual hands-on skills in order to have you pass a written test, but being unprepared for the kinesthetic responsibilities you'll have as a nurse. read more

This school is horrible. Their nursing program is a SCAM. Their professors" are from out of state and don't help with anything. They are racist, and not fair at all. I have had the worst experience and so many unprofessional situations, and even clinics and hospitals have mentioned how horrible this school is.. by the many unfair things they've done. if I could give a 0 , I would. Kelly is the worst.. and racist and so unhelpful. She loves to see people fail... I would not recommend this school at all. read more

This place is a joke! You get your next term schedule days before the terms starts so you have no room to give your job a heads up. They send you to the most useless clinical sites with no way to practice any skills. Me and many of my classmates were used for "free labor." I was a secretary for a med spa for my practicum. Didn't get a choice and they wouldn't allow me to switch. I didn't get to practice ANY of my skills. I was terribly underprepared to be a nurse as a result. They once gave us less than 24hr notice to get a TB blood test or we would all be kicked out. They ghost you and don't communicate or take any accountability but are quick to place blame. The lab equipment is old, dirty and cheap. There's many more problems that would take forever to list and recall. Do yourself a favor and go literally anywhere else! read more

To be honest, very disorganized school, some lectures read of slides instead of teaching the content, labs are not up to date and most of what you do in labs is view youtube videos then you are checked off the youtube videos you watched instead of actually being shown the skill in labs and you demonstrating you acquired the skill. Some lecturers don't show up to class at all. Its a business I get but please deliver the service we are paying for Sumner College. read more

I would never recommend anyone going to this school for nursing. Each term, we find out what our schedule is like a couple days right before the next term starts. Even with their set schedule, they can change their online to in person the FIRST day of class and have you make up attendance through remediation. This school also offers clinical sites and then cancels right beforehand. I would suggest looking elsewhere for a more supportive program. read more

As others have said, worst school ever. I chose this school because they had a way of letting people get into the nursing program without needing prerequisites. It is not worth the convenience people. The staff are completely unprofessional including but not limited to lying about what was said in class or about a policy, unprofessional with emails, and texting students after hours, horrible about communication. Some of us had to drive over 200 miles to get to our clinicals and they were not forthcoming in admissions about the distance students would have to travel for clinicals. They will not let you view your right and wrong answers on exams unless you schedule a special appointment because they don't have an ounce of trust in students. The only good thing about this school is a very small handful of instructors. Small handful. Trust me it is not worth the trouble to go here. Every time I think they have reached a new low I am proven wrong. Try literally any other college. Oh yea and their credits don't transfer to any other college-I called about 17 different ones. Got my nursing degrees here and had a great experience! Highly recommend. They are growing like crazy and have great locations!

They have now added a Dialysis Techician program that can be completed in 8 months. They are now accepting 72 students per RN program instead of the previous 48 students and are also expanding their Cascade Campus. read more

Don't waste your your time with this school. They only take a few students at a time apparently that's what they told us after they wasted our time, they lied to me and my wife. My wife has already finished most of her prerequisites through Lower Columbia College. We contacted Sumner because they advertised an accelerated course. They told her to come in and take some tests. She took her TEAS, she had one of the highest scores they had seen in a while. She is 46 years old with 6 children, she was an accountant,a graphic designer, she worked with foster youth, and she was a sign language teacher. When her mom got sick with cancer she dropped everything to take care of her and that is when she found her desire to become a CNA. When her mom died she wanted to become a RN so she started college, Sumner was to expedite that dream they said she could start in August but she had to pass a panel interview, where administration from Sumner interview you. I came home from work, she was crying, apparently she failed her panel and their excuse was she was too nervous. I was like WTF. The panel is their way discriminating against students they don't want. There is no way anyone with common sense wouldn't take her, you cant tell me a 18 or 20 year old with no life experience is going to be more qualified than her to join their school. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME UNLESS YOUR YOUNG AND WHITE. read more

Not a good college at all. Save your money. Taking TEAS exams and essays for entrance into a program. I already have two Associate of Science degrees and a Bachelor of Arts degree and they want to insult me with tests and essay. No real Nursing program does this ever. I graduated from the registered nursing program at Sumner College and enrolling in this school was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life. The program is structured and well organized, the director of the program is very supportive, the instructors are great, and the administration was amazing to work with throughout the entire process. I was treated like a person from day one, not like a number, From the moment I attended an information session, I felt comfortable and knew this was going to be a great decision. Barb, Bill, Joanna and Linda were very supportive of my journey and I passed the NCLEX the first time I took it. I was hired on from at the same facility that I completed my practicum hours. I have referred at least 10 people to this program since I left. I would recommend this college to anyone who is serious about nursing school. read more
