I love visiting game shops when I travel and this was the best one I've checked out in London so far. They have a great selection covering board games, RPGs (including some wonderful indie titles as well as a lot of D&D), tactics games, and hobby supplies. I had a lovely conversation with Winter while I killed time before a show. I own a game store in the US and they gave me lots of ideas for new things to try! For the 14 year old geek in you who loved role play novels, magazinesa and collectibles (surely you remember those?) imagine a whole shop dedicated to them. This store is probably the only one left in existence on the planet. A scary prospect I know, but you just can't knock this shop for catering to a very specific crowd and filling the geek niche in the market. The window display might be intimidating with its Dungeons & Dragons miniatures looking menacing in a "this place is only for forever-virgins" sort of way, "don't come inside unless you've got a +4 mace". But you shouldn't let that put you off. Orcs Nest is filled with all sorts of gaming bits and bobs. Yes, there's an entire section of Magic: The Gathering cards and more psychedelically coloured 20-sided dice than you can shake a unicorn hair-filled wand at. But the real draw for me is the mezzanine level packed with boardgames. No, not Monopoly and Connect 4. Think proper boardgame-geek boardgames. Yes, they're expensive (expect to pay £25 for the less complex ones upwards to £75 for the properly epic ones). But they're priced similarly to what you'd expect to pay online. That's a winner in my book. Overall, Orcs Nest is a welcoming little store that belies its façade - a perfect respite for gamers of all kinds. read more

Orcs Nest is a small shop crammed to bursting with tabletop games of every kind. It has a wide selection of board games and expansions, as well many shelves of game books for starting your role playing group. It's the best shop of its kind in London that I've found so far. The prices seem to match what can be found elsewhere and online. If you are looking for a particular game I would call ahead and see if it is in stock, because in my experience what is on their website might not entirely reflect what's in-store. Really, in deciding whether to come here or not you have to ask yourself only one question. Do you want to play some games beyond the usual fare you could find at Argos? Yes? **GEEK ALERT** Back in the day... I used to play various RPG's (role-playing games, to those uninitiated). Whenever I would visit London as a teenager I would stop in this shop to see what the latest and greatest games were, stock up on dice, miniatures, etc. The staff was knowledgeable and fun, and the prices were fair. Made a point during our visit to London to stop here as my daughter is a huge board game fan. Found things we couldn't find at home at competitive prices. It is a small store, but they pack as many games as they can in every shelf & corner. It's a great place for unusual games, family games, and games for the collector. Worth a visit! read more

On the main section you have lots of RPG games, their miniatures and lots of card games. On a strange metal balcony thing there is a large selection of board games. It has been around forever, it is a small 2 storey place that packs in a lot of board, roleplaying and collectable card games. The more well known games are well represented and it is probably on the easiest to get to and well known of game stores. However the staff are generally monosyllabic and I have never been in there when they have not been playing solitaire on the computer. They are friendly enough but not the sort of place to go to advice or information on new releases. Considering this is a rather niche market and most of this is available online, delivered straight to your door for the same price this is the kind of added value you would expect. read more

Dungeons and Dragons scares me. Actually nearly all things similar to Dungeons and Dragons scares me. I find that adults who are super into that game forfeit the real world to get a little piece of that Dungeon whenever they can. It's complete and utter freakishness/dork-esque. If you're one of those people, don't seek help, go to Orcs Nest. They specialise in toys, books, magazines and games that are similar to Dungeons and Dragons. The staff is really knowledgeable, so maybe you can find a new person to enjoy your hobby with if you get on really well with the cashier. Stop playing with yourself; I mean by yourself. read more

Bringing people here is one of my favourite pastimes, not only because I love to watch their faces, but also becasue I have a lot of nerdy friends, and if they haven't been to Orc's nest I want to be the person who blows their mind. If we live by the motto don't judge a book by it's cover, we should also not judge a shop by it's closed window. Orcs nest looks scary, and from the outside you get the feeling you would need to roll for courage to enter. Please don't be put off though. This is the best place to go to get board games in London and the only place I know of to get all the dice you could need. The shop suffers from a lack of space, so be aware that if you come during busy times, you will be getting very close to people and will have to spend a lot of time in here just to get a good look at everything. Roleplaying games are on the stand-alone shelves both on the ground floor and mezzanine, card games are mostly downstairs, dice in the far right hand corner of the shop and the popular and new boardgames as soon as you enter. War games upstairs around the walls. I can easily spend hours in here at quiet times just having a look at all the games and discussing them with the staff. read more

I've been to many a board game store in my time and this place, while not being the largest, appears to have one of the most comprehensive selections that I've ever seen. Prices are comparable to other game stores (typically slightly more expensive than you would find online, but hey, your'e supporting an independent business!). When I was younger, I played quite a few RPGs in my day, and if I still played then, this is probably where I would come to find new ones and new books for them. While I don't play them anymore, I do still like my fair share of board games, and the Orc's Nest is the location to come in London to find new and interesting ones (and their expansions). I love going upstairs and browsing the games. I do find they are often out of the ones I'm looking for, which I guess says something about the popularity of the games (and the store). One of my favourite shops in London. Whenever I am in town I have to pop in (as it were...cheeky!). They have lots of board games and a cool selection of D&D for the more 80s revivalist amongst us. Brings back good memories though.. Having existed for so long - the shop has been a sort of mekka (oopps...p.c gone mad. I'll risk it.) for me and my pals. The shop has established itself as a landmark for any fanboy/girl and the staff are very helpful and kind. read more
