I stopped here during my short sojourn at Friday Harbor yesterday. There are several arts and…read morecrafts-type places in town and in my limited experience, Island Studios had the best selection and at fairly reasonable prices. It's also a handsome place with their various pieces well displayed. I was particularly impressed with their glass wall pieces and some wood boxes by a person on Orcas Island by the name of River Jim. I also thought that the owner was very helpful, especially since I'll probably buy one of River Jim's boxes in the future. Jane Y.'s experience is unfortunate, although a sometimes high shipping/handling charge for often fragile and uniquely shaped artistic objects is more common than not. And it is certainly something I expect and factor into my purchasing decisions. I'm also usually suspicious of Yelp reviews from a profile with no picture and only one pointed posting. I call this a "drive by".

I enjoyed this little gallery/pottery shop...so much so I bought a really cool carved linoleum art…read morepiece of orcas and kelp by a local artist. The shop is well lit and the art pieces spaced out so you could actually view things. The shopkeeper was super friendly and told me about the artist when I inquired about the pieces I was interested in. Then it was just up to deciding which one I wanted. My husband and I left to go to the bakery across the way so I could think it over and there was no sales pressure to purchase just friendly information and pleasant small talk about where we were staying on the island and the artist's process I was inquiring on. I'm not sure why other reviewers were so judgmental on it. There are several galleries and shops with various different artists about and they all just have different pieces to peruse with different price points. As long as the person purchasing it is fine paying it who cares. I'm personally happy to support such a shop and the artists they are in turn supporting. All I can think of is that they are old reviews. The gallery I went to is right in Eastsound on the main street right across from Brown Bear Bakery.

I feel as if I was transported to a place where there is not a worry in the world. The inside of the store is lovely, but the outside is where the true beauty lies. Take your time as you make your way through the peaceful path of sculptures. Soak in the beauty of the surrounding trees. Take a moment to stop and look at every detail. I would have purchased everything in here if the wallet was a bit heavier. It is pretty pricey, but everything is beautifully made. Don't miss out on this store, especially if you're exploring Chuckanut Drive.

I really dig this lovely little gallery, located in one of the coolest middle-of-nowhere towns I've…read moreever stumbled into. I've been to a couple of openings here and had a blast each time. It's about an hour and a half drive north of Seattle, into the beautiful pastoral area of the Skagit River Valley, and well worth that drive for a gallery opening or an artist talk. Smith & Vallee put a lot of emphasis on both paintings and sculpture, particularly from regional artists (and the Skagit Valley area happens to be loaded with great artists, presumably attracted to the great landscapes and light angles, and the arts-friendly communal atmosphere of Bow-Edison). A cozy, intimate gallery + talented local artists + a supportive community = really fun and well-attended gallery openings. It can get pretty packed, which might force you to rubberneck a bit in order to see some of the art, but people are generally kind and relaxed. If it's too crowded for your blood, walk around and check out some of the other neato little shops, restaurants or bars in town and then filter back after a bit. "Town," by the way, is more or less a couple of charming little blocks that look as if you're on the set of a movie.

Like a cross between fuego and fireworks Seattle people know what these stores are. The biggest downfall of course is prices. We wouldve loved to buy up everything but it was just too much. I get that they have to make a living but t shirts were over thirty dollars. MAgnets were almost ten. stickers were four dollars. I settled for one magnet and one sticker which was 9 dollars. Didnt have a ton of cash at the time. Nice little trinkets and such. Lady working was super nice much like everyone else here.

This review starts over 20 years ago…read more My partner, who is a sailor and has her Captain's papers, purchased place mats that were essentially charts of local waters. Someone borrowed them. They were never returned. Five years ago, she got back to Anacortes, but the store was closed while she was there (2020 and all that madness). Quick advance to September 2025, she had to drive round looking for the store, we finally found it close to a shipyard, but its doors were closed for good. There happened to be a note on one of the doors, giving us the address where the store had relocated. Not only did she find the place mats that she'd lost, but much more... I went into the store after she returned to the car (puppy to tend to), and I found a number of things I was looking for: old coins, nautical stuff, old photos, a veritable treasure trove. This entered my list of places to revisit, and I'll be sure to find a new supply of snarky magnets (which I leave on the refrigerator door of a few deserving victims... heh heh heh). Nice place. Excellent selection, lots to see, more to buy. Enjoyed talking with the proprietress.
