very stunning collection of handmade pottery with stories of the island. staff were very kind and were able to teach us abt the st juans.

I enjoyed this little gallery/pottery shop...so much so I bought a really cool carved linoleum art piece of orcas and kelp by a local artist. The shop is well lit and the art pieces spaced out so you could actually view things. The shopkeeper was super friendly and told me about the artist when I inquired about the pieces I was interested in. Then it was just up to deciding which one I wanted. My husband and I left to go to the bakery across the way so I could think it over and there was no sales pressure to purchase just friendly information and pleasant small talk about where we were staying on the island and the artist's process I was inquiring on. I'm not sure why other reviewers were so judgmental on it. There are several galleries and shops with various different artists about and they all just have different pieces to peruse with different price points. As long as the person purchasing it is fine paying it who cares. I'm personally happy to support such a shop and the artists they are in turn supporting. I disagree with a reviewer, this isn't a tourist trap! At all! Both places are owned by people who loves ART.. They show compassion for beautiful art and artists. A lot of pieces are from Washington. They carry wide ranges of things, pottery, paintings, garden art, metal art, some different, jewelry.. You have to remember this stuff isn't made from China, people put heart and soul into every piece. I love both locations! They ship! And they are very knowledgeable of every piece! If you catch the owners Michael or Jefferi, you can ask them anything, full of wonderful stories! read more

We visited the shop on Main Street and it is such a lovely place. Wendy showed us so many wonderful things and knew the background on each artist. She gave us some great visitor information as well. Wendy was also very low-key about having my kids in the shop (10 and 11 year olds). They have been taught to respect art and touch only when given permission and even though there is a load of fragile pottery, Wendy remained unruffled when we walked in with the kids. (I'm sure she was on high-alert but never showed it!) Prices range from a $0.25 postcard up to sculptures and paintings in the $1000s. Virtually everything in the shop is made by an on-island artist. Yes, it's in the main tourist area but there is nothing touristy about it. We have gone back twice for gifts and it's a low-pressure, local vibe. I absolutely love the collections there and spent more than I intended. But I love knowing the origin of the art and the fact that the proprietors are local too. Next time I'm here, I will make this one of my first stops. Beautiful art+amazing service=can't go wrong. read more

We went to all the pottery shops on Orcas and this was one of our favorites. I can't say that this is better or worse than Orcas Island Pottery (the other favorite) as they are very different. This one is more pottery and yard art while Orcas Pottery is more pottery. The variety is very good, something for everyone's taste...if your taste isn't Ikea. The owner/manage is a very friendly and helpful guy. Let him know what you like and he'll take the time to help you find what you are looking for. He even guided us to a very good restaurant on the island (most are mediocre...more reviews on them coming). If you are looking for a souvenier of your trip this is a must stop place. Classic Orcas Island business - either at the cottage location in Crow Valley or the newish shop "in town." Every time I visit CVP, I always find something. A friend and I visited this shop yesterday out of curiosity. It's not a lot of pottery... but seems to be a lot of overpriced "art," like a shop crammed with glass projects that serve no purpose, cheaply made jewelry, and nicknacks. I wouldn't have minded that, but the person tending the shop made sure to seek out the two other sets of people in the shop, say "hi" and offer them help with their selections. She looked at me and my friend, and just went back to the counter without a word. Disrespectful and unwelcoming. read more

I adore this shop! I purchased two beautifully-designed ceramic serving trays--made by one of the owners--that I brought back with me to New York. I am often asked by friends where can they be found. On another trip to Orcas I stopped in and purchased a fun ceramic piece that's hanging in my Brooklyn apartment. I've met both owners and they are warm, friendly folks, and if you stick around for awhile you'll hear some wonderful stories from them and all the locals who stop in to say hello. read more

Wow. Astounded by the negative reviews. I was staying in Eastsound a couple of years ago and stopped by this shop a few times. REALLY nice stuff made by local artists. No, it is NOT a "tourist trap". What does that even mean? It's a local shop, owned by a local, and I guess this is a tourist area but this is where the owner and artists LIVE. Locally. There's no crap made in China in this store. All sorts of beautiful handmade items from jewelry to framed art, to pottery. I love this store. When I travel I like to buy local art instead of a crap "souvenir" and this is the sort of shop I love. I bought a beautiful ceramic crow which was somewhat expensive but it is a "piece of art" that I will display in my home and will be handed down for generations. You get what you pay for. The women working here have been very helpful each time I have visited. I will come back any time I am in town and I highly recommend it. read more

The vibe was neither welcoming nor friendly in this claustrophobic and cluttered shop in Eastsound. Some really lovely paintings by David Ridgeway, but the gallery markup on them seemed a bit higher than the norm. The pottery was forgettable. read more
