Sadly, the Brown Cow is closed for construction, so we missed out. We had already found parking, so instead of buying ice cream, we went treasure hunting next door. We had a lot of fun moving from one vendor area to the next as we worked our way around the store. It is very, very full of merchandise, but didn't feel super cramped. It would be harder to navigate if you are a larger size or if you need a walker or wheel chair. The aisles and vendor set-ups are narrow, so it does take some patience and balance to maneuver in and around. But everything is clean and well organized, so big plus there. And there is a massive amount of unique things. Smelled fine, too, not stuffy or smoky. The owner was walking around with a spray bottle, tidying up. Owners and customers all wore masks. 6-foot distancing marks are on the floor and additional signs are all around the shop, reminding shoppers about COVID precautions, which was appreciated. I think this would be a fun place to go on a masked, socially-distanced date! Ice cream + treasure hunting.

A refreshing opposite, from the jerk owner Vintage Vinyl in Evanston has(won't get into him any further here, but if you want to know more about that place look up my review on them). And I wish all music store employees and owners, were as nice as this guy is! Definitely stop here, if you happen to go out to this part of Oak Park and are either looking for CDs, or even just like to have good conversations with others about music. Or even are checking out the nearby Oak Park Conservatory. One day, I'll finally get in a visit to(across the street) Oak Park Bakery....

The Economy Shop is literally a Victorian style house with every room crammed with secondhand goods and antiques. They're only open 3-4 days a month from 9am-3pm, so you need to plan your visit. When you enter, you're handed a paper sheet that is divided into different categories of merchandise. When you go to each room, they total up whatever you want to buy from that given room. When you're completely done shopping, you pay at the far back of the house and exit. Prices are fair and you can find some great stuff here. The basement was one area that was overwhelming. Almost too much to look at and fully absorb. Tips for first time visitors: 1. Bring reusable bags or a tote bag. They will give you bags but a good sturdy bag will work to your advantage. 2. Parking is tricky. You're fine on residential streets but if you park along the train tracks, you have to feed a meter. $2.00 per hour. Card payment only. 3. Leave small kids at home. The rooms and hallways are too packed and tight to reasonably manage kids in tow. I like this place! I will be back!

The Furniture Recycler did a great job on my kitchen table and chairs ... the table was very well…read moreused and the chairs were falling apart. I even found two that had a different finish on them. He was able to match the finish on the chairs, I can't even tell which were the odd ones! The table and chairs were all taken apart and re-glued, so sturdy now! Just a joy to use! He sent me pictures when the table was stripped to confirm the color of finish I wanted. He completed the job when he said he would.

They have a well-curated selection of toys to suit every age and interest. The shop is clean, bright and pleasant to shop in. The workers are knowledgeable and helpful. Best of all is that they realize the pandemic isn't over for those of us with kids too young to be vaccinated, so they will continue to require masks until there is a vaccine for all ages. And you can order for home delivery if you can't wear a mask for 15 minutes.

I know email tone can be misinterpreted but as a representative she completely turned me off from visiting again in person or recommending to any of my friends and family. Good customer service is essential these days if you expect to keep customers! Not to mention the increased prices of Gepetto's toys compared to other businesses. Yes the quality is good, but it's not an excuse to be crappy towards your customers. There are other options in the area. I'd recommend they get a new person answering emails unless the business supports that type of behavior.
