This is my first visit to Mahi Sushi - Thai Cuisine and Pho. As I walked in, I quickly recalled I was here many times under a Mexican restaurant. The ambiance is well spaced out with many tables and a small Sushi Bar. One look at their Sushi Bar, I decided to forego the Pho and Panang Curry. Yes, there was one roll I recalled that was very popular here, Magic Eels. I normally have a Saporo or Kirin or Heineken with this dish but because of the cold weather I opted for a hot tea! The Magic Eel roll has the BBQ eel (Unagi) as its topping. This is cross between salmon and chicken without any fishiness. The meat is soft and fluffy with some tempura flakes for crunch and cream cheese for silkiness. Avocado and cucumber add freshness with a drizzle of eel sauce! I was in Seven Heaven! While the restaurant is named Mahi Sushi, it is a full-service Japanese and Thai spot with Pho! OMG, my excellent experience with Magic Eel will draw me back to Mahi Sushi forever!

For the roles, we got a few, but the mango one was by far superior. The green curry was delicious, and not too hot. Service was friendly and quick. I read the reviews for Pu Thai and I was shocked that I had never been to this part of North Fort Myers. The restaurant was not what we expected, it was spacious inside and looked a little more elevated than expected. The service was great, we were greeted and seated promptly but it was a packed house. We took a couple of recommendations and the food came out in a timely manner. The food was delicious. My husband loved the Pho and the steak salad and the crab rangoons. We would come back for sure!

The sushi is solid but fairly average compared to what you'll find in larger markets. That said, there are several standout dishes that keep me coming back. The Tuna You-Ki appetizer is excellent and easily one of the highlights of the menu. The Thai-style whole fried snapper is another winner, perfectly cooked with great flavor and worth ordering every time. The sashimi appetizer is also a fantastic value. The portion is generous enough that it can easily serve as an entire meal. Service is generally good. The servers are friendly and courteous, though they often seem stretched thin, especially during busy periods. You may need a little patience, but the staff is always pleasant. The restaurant itself is comfortable and welcoming, making it an easy choice for a casual lunch or dinner. It may not be a destination sushi restaurant, but it's a dependable neighborhood favorite with a few standout dishes that are well worth trying. Rating: 4/5 A reliable local spot with a few excellent menu items, especially the Tuna You-Ki, sashimi appetizer, and Thai fried snapper. Perfect when you're looking for something easy, tasty, and consistently good.

This time, I decided to try the Tom Yum soup because when I get it in my home town, it is delicious. I ordered the soup and the chicken satay. I asked the server if the Tom Yum soup had galangal as it wasn't listed as an ingredient in the menu. He said no. I told him that I was pretty sure that galangal was an integral part of the soup. He left, came back and said that the cook told him she had been making the soup for 40 years and had never added galangal. I said that perhaps there were different ingredients in the soup, depending on the part of Thailand that one was from. When the soup arrived, it was in a really small bowl. I saw the lemon grass and lime leaf but no galanagal. That beautiful aroma from the galangal was missing! The broth was very thin as well. The shrimp were well done and that was the soup's saving grace. The satay with the peanut sauce was really good. I'll go back but won't order any Tom Yum from this place. It was a very disappointing meal.
