What a great place! This place used to be a Chinese restaurant that changed owners twice. Then it shut down and reopened with a new owner and new theme. This time it is an Asian fusion of Vietnamese, Thai, and Lao. I love the variety of options. Just enough to not be overwhelming and still give many options. The food was delicious. Our server was pleasant, friendly and attentive. The owner even came to our table and asked how things were. She was so sweet and friendly. LAN XANG (Thai / Sushi / Laotian / Vietnamese) in Fort Myers was a very pleasant surprise. Restaurants that try to do several different cuisines at once don't always do any one of them particularly well, so I wasn't sure what to expect. However, based on what we ordered, the food was excellent. We ordered takeout, and everything was ready quickly and packaged nicely. The standout dish was the steamed salmon wrapped in banana leaves, which I believe was from the Thai side of the menu. It was perfectly cooked, delicately seasoned, and served with beautifully steamed vegetables that tasted fresh and balanced. A really exceptional dish and not something you see very often. The green curry was also outstanding, with a rich flavor and a nice level of spice. I especially appreciated that they offer the option of fresh soft tofu instead of the usual fried tofu for a small extra charge. That's a thoughtful detail that not every Thai restaurant offers, and it made the dish even better. We also had the Little Town Salad, which was very fresh with a nice, light dressing, and even the rice was perfectly cooked and had a slight coconut flavor... really good. For dessert we tried the mango sticky rice and a pumpkin custard made with kabocha pumpkin, which I had never seen before. Both were very good, especially the pumpkin custard, which was unique and delicious. The sticky rice was slightly less salted than I expected, but still very enjoyable. Although the menu includes Thai, Laotian, Vietnamese, and sushi, the dishes we tried from the Thai and Laotian side were excellent, so I would expect the rest of the menu to be worth exploring as well. I haven't had the chance to dine it but we've ordered for carry out about three times so far. There aren't many Laotian restaurants or even southeastern Asian restaurants around and I'm so glad we have this spot close by! I've enjoyed everything I've ordered from here so far. This restaurant offers a lot of options. Southern really is something for everyone. Personally I order so that I can get some items that you can't find anywhere else. Such as the laab and the crispy rice appetizer. The Laotian options offer such great flavors. If you enjoy spicy, sour, salty you'll enjoy the food. My favorites are the wings which are marinated perfectly and are so crispy that even with carry out it's still crispy. The Crispy rice appetizer is so flavorful and I love that you can make a lettuce wrap or just eat it as is. The Laab has a fresh lime flavor but offers a complex fish sauce, spicy flavor. The bile was very funky smelling. The dish was on the sweet and sour side. Which is off putting as beef laab is more salty, bitter, spicy. We paid extra for tripe and bile, but it was a waste. We order the Kopiak sen, again, it was super watery, bland and not so much noodles or meat. Beef soup was ok. The pompano fish was probably the only good dish. A very nice variety of options to pick from the menu. We started with the spicy tuna roll and steamed dumplings. Both came out quickly and were very fresh and flavorful. Next we ordered our entrees, the Green Curry and the Drunken Noodles. Again, no disappointments here! Dinners came out hot, perfectly seasoned, and delicious. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the atmosphere was comfortable and pleasant. The only downfall was the draft beer was barely cold. That won't stop us from going back though. For starters, my daughter ordered the veggie potstickers and she could not put them down. We, also, ordered the fried shrimp eggrolls, they were smaller than anticipated but packed with flavor. For our main dish we ordered the Veggie Pho and she was in heaven. The broth was full of flavor and rich, she enjoyed eating every drop. I ordered the shrimp drunken noodles, the spicy level was 2 and my gosh, our mouths were almost on fire. I wanted so much to try the new location. We had eaten at the Broadway Palm location and enjoyed the food, service and ambience. It definitely has changed since the move! We walked in and were told to take a seat anywhere! Whomever directed us was busy talking to someone else at the entrance and motioned us toward the dining area. There were multiple tables and two booths available. My husband likes booths,so we chose one of them. Both booths needed cleaning, but we sat down expecting someone to be with us shortly, or to at least clean the table. The atmosphere was Cold and uninviting, the temp was freezing and no service personnel attending to tables. And we waited! No one approached us, no one cleaned the table, no one brought us menus. After about 10 minutes the man who had greeted us walked thru the seating area, returned to the sushi counter and sat down, chatting with restaurant personnel. At no time did I see anyone attend to people who were seated, altho, most had menus. Most of the personnel behind the counter were. Talking among themselves. After 15 minutes we left! No one seemed to notice! We went across the street to Bell Tower to one of our favorite restaurants Blue Pointe and got an exceptional meal with impeccable service! I don't know if we will try LAN Xang again! I can only hope that the lack of service is due to growing pains and adjusting to a new locale that made it less than an acceptable visit. It amazes me that the staff would take such a cavalier attitude towards patrons, when there is SO much to offer nearby. read more

We sat in an open air booth (I love that most of the restaurant is "open" to the fresh air) and enjoyed the solo musician quietly playing about 10 feet away.
