First and foremost, when I booked my time slot for their monthly Pin-up Workshop, Brittney Fusco (the photographer) contacted me immediately and was incredibly helpful. Within the weeks leading up to the shoot, I received several emails about how to prep for the shoot and also what type of outfits/makeup to bring to the shoot. These were so helpful and definitely eased my nerves on the shoot. Prior to my shoot, the closest thing I had to done to anything like this is some "before a crazy night out" photo shoots with friends in college. You know exactly what kind of shoot those were. :) They recently moved into a great little space right off the Rhode Island Mall exit off of 95 South. The place is a little tricky to see as they are still working on getting some signage but once you walk into the studio, you automatically feel right at home. The shoot itself was lovely. For a mere $35 (amazing, I know) I was locked into an hour session. The first 30 mins were spent by Tiff (Brittney's sis) doing my make-up and Heather Bettencourt doing my hair. The transformation was fabulous. The last half hour was spent actually in front of the camera with Brittney snapping away at every pose I could come up with. They have loads of vintage clothing and antique items to really make all of your pin-up dreams come to life. I kept it simple and nautical. Brittney is a dream to work with because she makes you feel so comfortable in front of the camera and although it was only 30 mins. I never felt rushed. Not to mention her puppy Purl made the shoot that much more adorable. I left the shoot with a little goodie bag with my name on it and it really was the icing on the cake. The turnover for the photos was relatively quick as well. For the package that I selected, I saw about 17 proofs and picked 4 for her to work her retouching magic on. A few days after that, they were posted and I was completely amazed at how they came out. She truly does amazing work and any girl looking for a little indulgence and should definitely look to Brittney and Poppy Photography to make it all happen.

Unfortunately, the occasion for using Gordon's Ink was not a happy one: I wanted a large headshot blown up for a memorial service. I also had several other photos enlarged, but on a smaller scale. I needed all of this with a four day turnaround and I ended up needing one of the photo scans for the memorial program and Chris was great! I have done some of my own enlargements using Picasa and cheap photo labs and it ended up being well worth it to employ someone to get good quality enlargements. It helped that I had high quality originals, but I was thrilled with the end product. Chris' prices seemed reasonable given the quality. I think we paid $70 for an enlargement from 5x8 to poster size. This included whatever touchups were needed. I didn't compare them head to head, but I know the studio mark, at a minimum, was edited out which was great. Go check out this man's company! If I lived in the area, I would consider getting some of my own travel photos done up for hanging here.

What set Chris apart from the other companies that I had called was his pleasant disposition, his gentle and calm description of the different products he offered and their pricing (always a consideration as a small business owner with grand ideas), and the final product and its timing. Trust me when I say this, I am learning the business of graphics and design and how that relates to printing. I spoke to several other printing companies who were so impatient with my lack of knowledge when trying to print postcards for promotional materials. I wasn't sure that I had the right files from my design firm in order to get some last minute cards done. I received the guidance that I was looking for and was able to make a truly informed decision, a final product that I was really blown away with, and a nice demeanor to boot. What's not to like about a company that stands behind their product, the time in which they can get it to you, and a friendly knowledgeable person to help guide you to the right product for your budget? She showed me all the rooms that you could use- and there were sooooo many, it was so cute. She showed me that they even had a changing room, so if someone were to bring numerous outfits they could change that's a great idea- I wish I had thought to bring more than one outfit. But it was just the spur of the moment thing. The selfie rings are super lightweight and easy to use. You can use a iPhone or droid they teach you how to use it. Also the music was on point- it made the vibes even better. I will be going back again- I enjoyed my time very much and I would recommend doing this- I went alone and got great pictures! You don't even need to go with anyone you can take amazing pictures of yourself. But bringing someone might make it even more fun. I was told they try to change out some of the themes here and there, but some of the themes stay because they're so in demand. But for the price it was totally worth it.

Sebastian is a very thoughtful skilled photographer. I gave him the challenging task of repairing a…read more47 year old 3" x 3" double exposure color snapshot. I wanted to eliminate one of the exposures and have the repaired photograph made into a 12" x 12" print. Sebastian was able to remove the double exposure and had to actually recreate parts of the picture where in had been completely obscured by the double exposure. Sebastian's skills and dedication to the task has yielded a historically invaluable one of a kind photo of a Fresnel lens in service in a lighthouse back in 1971. This photo will go on permanent display in the lighthouse for generations of visitors to enjoy.

Laurie Brandt ended up being my first pick for my first born son's newborn photographer. I LOVE…read morenewborn photography but Laurie's work was hands down the best. She had so many ideas I loved I did my best not to torture her in regards to themes, ideas, & props. She also had done newborn photography with several acquaintances of mine. The long winding country road I drove that November that leads to her studio should be on the cover of a New England Postcard. The falling leaves and trees I passed set the scene or privacy, nature & serenity! She has a gorgeous home photography studio- set on a picturesque property with 360 degree lake views. Just being there brought a sense of calm over you! Laurie asked me what I wanted and introduced me to her daughter Tiffany who would be assisting her during the Newborn Photography shoot. Laurie immediately got to work & I could tell she was a naturally creative spirit. She has an amazing energy and aura about her that transcends into her work! She took my ideas and transformed them into beautiful art. I wanted to incorporate a "Prince Theme" since that was my sons baby shower as well as a "Peter Rabbit Theme" since that was my sons Nursery as well as those quintessential newborn pictures & a few Christmas pictures since it was next month I could use a few of these for Christmas Cards as well as whatever she suggested which was a "Mother & Me" Picture & some other things I Loved. I loved and wished I could have kept them all (including the proofs)! Most important about Laurie in addition to her spirit was how great and accommodating she was to me and my son. I had no qualms about her holding, posing, or adjusting him. She also gave me plenty of time for feeding/changing throughout the session. You could tell she was a Mom with an amazing maternal side that translates into her photography. My son slept through the ENTIRE photo shoot except for when he peed on Laurie- which she handled- LIKE A CHAMP. She quickly let me know and we got him cleaned up and she just kept rolling! That in and of itself- was amazing! Naturally- I felt bad and apologized and she was like "Don't worry about it" she Shook it Off enduring "it happens all the time"! She also has an amazing room dedicated to Newborns/Kids & Their Mom's/Caretakers in which she has a changing table with all supplies, wipes/toys/etc. Newborn Props & Newborn Outfits as well as an area to breastfeed -which I personally thought was amazing!! She made me feel immediately comfortable and I'm a pretty shy individual! Her young daughter Tiffany was also naturally gifted with photography and newborn posing and appeared to be just as creative as her experienced mother! They made a great team and made me feel great about being a First Time Mom and observed I was very natural tending to my son and stopping to breastfeed in between our 3 hour session. The studio grounds are absolutely beautiful & her backdrops are amazing. I know she also does "themes" and offers full scale sets for some of these I believe such as Fairy Sets (unless that's just an example of her beautiful editing). I've seen her do newborn photography with: Disney Movies, Where the Wild Things Are, Rainbow Baby Tributes, Police Officer Tributes, and really anything you want. WHAT TO KNOW: Laurie is extremely talented and creative and is amazing with both newborns AND parents. She comes highly recommended by many friends and individuals in RI! She is very easy to work with, down to earth and extremely approachable and works with what YOU want! CONTACT HER ASAP to schedule an appointment- because you don't want her to be booked when going into labor and she usually doesn't like to take newborns over 14 days old. And the results are another amazing story. I heard about her through the grapevine and did maternity photos with her. Let me tell you, the last thing an expectant mom who resembles the Goodyear blimp would like to do is pose for photos. I already felt beautiful and glowing, just didn't want to capture the physical gains on camera; however, Laurie made me feel comfortable and brought out gorgeous gowns, utilized some of the beautiful nature on her property, & and took some pretty damn good photos too! Next visit was the newborn session and she handled my 10 day old peanut with such care, she never woke, not until the end! Laurie kept the studio warm and gave ample time for feedings and changes.
