I hate talking about people like this but the smell that was coming from her and the attitude that i was greeted with first thing definitely made me never want to be a patient there. This is not the standard that you expect from a private hospital, needless to say i wont be back and I would not recommend it to anyone else. Well, I guess I wouldn't say it's close, but it's closer than going to the west end. My guy recommended this dentist, as this is the one he goes to, so I figured, why not make this our family dentist. Huzzah. This dentist must be pretty busy because I called in for an appointment and they were able to schedule me in a month later. No biggie, I had no pressing issues to speak of. When I arrived, it was a blustery typically rainy Glasgow day so I was quite happy that it was so warm and toasty inside the Dentists doors. The waiting room is full of antique furniture, I almost felt as though I had stepped back in time. Very cozy indeed, I was able to relax a bit while I waited to be seen. When I was taken back for my check up, I was greeted by friendly staff and we got down to business. I spoke of a few small issues I was having and without even blinking, we were off and running, chatting about the ins and outs of teeth, and how mine are pretty great. (Years of braces and the want to keep them as clean as possible probably helps). I quite enjoyed that the dentist was chatty, as it helped ease any anxiety I have about being in the dentist chair. I'm back in a few weeks for a cleaning and it's funny to think that I'm actually looking forward it it.

Although no one wants to go to the dentist McCarte and Swan's is just about the least intimidating, most friendly surgeons you could hope to find in the centre of Glasgow. They're based on Douglas St in a surgery that used to be a house. With comfy chairs, Smooth Radio in the background and a cozy, living room ambience, it's hard to feel nervous. You may have to wait a couple of weeks to be seen so if you can afford to, book in advance. They do, however, offer emergency appointments, are open late on certain week days and will strive to see you as quickly as possible should you require assistance. And you know, even when you do get to the part where you're sitting in the chair, the dentists and nurses are so good you're out before you can blink. I've been in for some pretty painful infections in the past and had to get a number of jags in one day but the crazy thing is I don't remember it being as sore or unpleasant as it could've been. My dentist is Dr McCarte and he always offers friendly advice and chats away. So even in the most severe cases he goes out of his way to make your life a lot easier - he seems completely at ease which also helps. The general upkeep of your teeth is up to you but a check up and tooth cleaning in here is just over ten pounds and it seems to ward off any further infections. Dr McCarte always keeps up with you and even though he is a very busy man he always remembers you, making it feel more like a family surgery as opposed to merely a service. If you ever do have dental problems, his empathetic but pragmatic approach is always a huge help. So after my earlier years being fearful of the dentists, I can honestly say that Dr McCarte and his professional staff has eradicated my concerns, making my dental health a lot more manageable with minimal stress. The attitude, work and interest from all staff mark this surgery a cut above others, and each individual is an asset to the health profession.

As an adult, I usually get my check-ups at an NHS dentist, but I keep coming back here for the more detailed cosmetic work that I need to get done from time-to-time. Dr Lang is the only one I trust to fix my front tooth, which chipped when I was a teenager and is healthy enough not to replace with a crown or veneer, but which still wears down over time. I've had him fix this with white filling on 3 occasions now, and each time he's also had a new retainer made for me so that my teeth will stay in place. He's always super professional and friendly, and he does a fantastic job. He's very meticulous about his work and I always feel comfortable there. Each time I've been happy with the results. His assistant, Leslie, worked for my previous dentist, so she's been there since I can remember, and is also very precise and always lovely to chat with. The location itself is in the Watermark Business Park, and is always incredibly clean and it's a pleasant, light space. Recommended.

The doctor had recommended I go to a chiropractor because I was suffering back pain in the lower region of my back, so I booked an appointment. They asked me a few things then had a look at my back, I was poked and prodded in the back until they had decided that they had sufficiently fixed what they could. It did make a difference though to how often my back was getting sore, as it was mostly running that was when it got sore. They gave me a few exercises to do to strengthen up the muscles in those areas, which I still do from time to time. I found that the benefit from the treatment did not last but this was at no fault of the Back Place as I did not return for treatment, when I was suppose to. It is a little pricey all in all but if it fixes an aching back that might get worse than it must be worthy it.

There are 4 GP partners at the practice including nurses. I believe because of Government changes the nurses will not be based at the surgery anymore and will be elsewhere in Hamilton. I did have my flu jag last month and it was still within the surgery, I will need to keep checking to find out. I've been here that often that even before I get to the counter the receptionist gives me a nod. They know me, too well me thinks. Eep! Och to be honest it is nice, they are friendly and it shows they know their clients. Ive always managed to get what I've needed from the doctors and been cured by their good advice and prescribed medication, the majority of the time. There is a couple of unusual things about this surgery. 1. They do have music playing in the waiting area but it plays through a phone on the wall. This also doubles up for the doctor to call you. The music is usually catered for the older generation and it's so muffled sounding, well it is playing through the speaker phone. 2. My doctor has a dog who lies underneath his desk. He has a reason and there's signs up saying why the dog is there, I can't remember why but it's all above board. It is quite nice when you see its wee nose poking under the desk giving your feet a wee sniff. Another couple of things to note is that you can only book an appointment on the day, so call at 8am to make sure you get one as they go quick. They changed it to this system to reduce the amount of missed appointments. Also the only open for a half day on Wednesdays as the afternoons as I believe it's the baby clinc. Apart from these unusual things it's a pretty good doctors.

I think over the years we have visited almost every ward in this place…read more The hospital gets a bad reputation locally, but at the same time when there was talk that it was to shut, the local community rallied round to save it, so it can't be all bad. Most of our recent visits have been to Accident and Emergency (A&E) and I have to say it's a lot better than I remember it years ago. Sometime it's not been the cleanest and sometimes the staff don't do things in the order you'd expect, but after a 12 hour shift I think I'd be the same. The staff in the Intensive care (ICU) have a very difficult job and are really sympathetic to the families, giving them loads of time and space at a time that is truly difficult and harrowing. No matter where you are in the hospital there are loads of hand sanitiser to try and minimise the risk of infection and reminders everywhere so you don't forget that it's important to avoid patients catching unwanted infections. If you've dealing with issues over multiple wards, you'll find that the doctors tend to specialise and don't appear to be able to deal with issues out with their own speciality/department, which can be very frustrating as it should be simple to get some cross departmental cooperation and patient care. The car parking is difficult during the traditional visiting hours, often spilling out onto the neighbouring streets. Some wards have, in recent years, tried to move away from these traditional hours, so you may be in luck and be able to attend loved ones at hours that are more suitable for you, your family, the person your visiting and all with easier parking. There are lifts within the central corridor of the hospital at both the front and the back of the hospital, which will take you to the wards you're visiting, with loads of signs to help you get where you need to go without too much need to navigate the maze of corridors. Occasionally there are periods that the hospital is having ongoing maintenance, but these are usually highlighted and with new additions, such as the Maggie's Centre and the New Beatson, the Hospital is providing local services that the community need on their doorstep. There is a RVS (WRVS) tea room / snack area on the ground floor as well as a small WH Smiths which are open for limited hours during the day. If you are spending time there there is also a canteen on the basement of the building, but as It's some time since I've visited there I'll leave that to a later review or maybe someone else can review it. For those with disabilities there are disabled parking in the car park at the front door, but these fill fast so I'd advise to try to arrive early and grab something at the tea room or the shop before your visit. For those using public transport, there appears to be fairly regular bus services running and there is a bus stop across from the front of the hospital. The local train station (Coatdyke) is a short(wish) walk from the back of the hospital. Overall, the place could be better, but it is improving all the time and with staff working long hours and with NHS budgets the way they are, I'm glad it's still here as it's a vital life line for anyone who needs it.

My husband was recently admitted into Monklands Hospital and I was a bit concerned as have been…read morepoor reports in past with regards to hygiene etc. But the ward he was in was clean and well kept. Staff were all very pleasant and were always loads of nurses milling around if you needed anything. Only major issue was it took him around 7 hours to get released after they advised him that he could go home as needed to wait for a prescription coming from Pharmacy. It is depressing having to sit around in hospital for 7 hours when you know that you are going home and should try and sort this out as obviously too long a delay
