I had my first appointment with Heather already scheduled, but I happened to see her two days before, and she could tell I was experiencing some back pain. She compassionately offered me an appointment that had opened for that afternoon, so I was able to go in early so that she could provide some relief. Even pre-appointment, the experience was already excellent. Heather is great with communication, which was done via text-my preferred method. When I arrived, we talked for a few minutes about how I was feeling, what I had tried, and what we would plan for my treatment. The space was very pleasant and comfortable. An attractive and clear price list was displayed on the wall near my chair (her fees are in line with what I know of the industry standard, and she offers other modalities besides basic massage which I hope to try in the future). During the session, Heather used products with scents and features that I enjoyed and were effective, and she took the time to describe and explain some of them to me. She applied "just right" pressure and communicated with me about that, too! She placed a small pillow over my eyes when I was on my back, which is something I really like and wish more therapists did. One of my favorite and most appreciated moments was when she paused to grab an extra blanket for me because she had paid attention and realized I was cold without me saying anything. (She does have a heated table, but she expertly decided NOT to turn it on since the heat would have exacerbated my inflammation!) In general, I thought the massage was fantastic! Heather has been at this for twenty years, and it shows! I asked many questions during our time together, and she proved to be very knowledgeable in trying to help me understand what was going on in my body. Another thing I very much appreciated was that when I asked about another healing practice with which she wasn't familiar, she didn't pretend to know the answer and instead revealed curiosity and a desire to learn, too! I think this is so important! I had been fairly uncomfortable with the pain I had been experiencing for a few days at that point, so I had no real expectation of feeling a whole lot better after the massage; I just figured it would be a step in the right direction. Well, I was proved wrong! I felt MUCH better when I rose from the table and for the remainder of the evening, and I woke up feeling even better the next morning! Heather counseled me on some steps to take and some gentle movements I could try. I did as she recommended and think these must've also helped. She even sent me a picture of a product we'd discussed shortly after I left the office. Before I'd left, she showed me a device I could order and use at home for times when I wouldn't be getting an actual massage. This was my first visit with Heather. She was referred to me by my PT. I was nervous to go in 1. because it was my first time with her and I have had some really bad massages in the past and 2. because of Covid-19. Let me first say this was one of the BEST massages I have ever had! Heather asked me many questions about the areas I was feeling pain in and she not only worked on those locations but she also shared her knowledge about why I was feeling the pain and then she also shared stretches I could do to relieve the pain. I could tell immediately she was passionate about her career as a massage therapist and she is very good at it! As far as COVID-19 is concerned she eased my fears immediately. She had me fill all of the paperwork out online. She sent a text asking me to text her when I arrived, wait in my car till she was ready for me and to wear a mask. When I got inside she had a mask on and offered me hand sanitizer. I wore the mask while I was face up and it was really ok. When she had me flip over she had me take the mask off and she had a little stand that she had me hang it on and she did not touch it. I have been going to Heather Johnson for more than 10 years for massage therapy. I first sought her services for neck pain. It started in 1996 and has caused me a week of missed work because of the excruciating pain. I have always requested deep tissue massage. It was not very long after Heather worked on the area that it got better. She gave me stretches to do which I did them often. I am relieved to say I have not had any neck pain for more than 8 years. I still do my stretches, but not as often. She is currently working on my sesamoiditis (ball of foot bone inflammation) diagnosed by two different podiatrists in 2014. Heather is true to her craft as a masseuse, when you get a massage by her it's not like you're getting someone who went to massage school and just goes through the same routine. What you are getting here is much more of genuine setting and service, unlike many of the spas or wellness centers. Which is not to say you cannot get good service at those places. What I am saying is that when you have a masseuse like Heather you know what you're getting each time you go. I would recommend her highly and intend on going back as much as many times my budget will allow. Heather has been my massage therapist for several years, and she always gives a thorough, personalized massage. However, this week she went over the top and I am so thrilled with the results that I have to share. I have been taking anti-inflammatories for over a month for a sore shoulder with moderate (maybe 10%) improvement but the pain was still limiting my range of motion. So I told her about it at the outset of my session and she performed orthopedic massage on my shoulder which involved very light pressure. The results are amazing. She asked me which areas I wanted her to focus on, which she did a thorough job in the hour session. There were even areas that she focused on which I didn't know had some existing issues. Great place to get a massage! I have been going to Heather for 7 years now. The location is convenient and tranquil- it doesn't have that "clinical office" feel. Heather was really warm and friendly, and was happy to accommodate my needs. From what I experienced, she tends towards a more deep muscle massage, but if it's too much, you just need to say the word and she'll adjust!
