Optimal Imaging at Ascension Hospital is by far the worst imaging center I have ever been to. I made two useless 60 min round trips to get my MRI, only to be told their machine was broken. The receptionist was rude and offered no apology. Since their MRI machine was down for over a week the lazy receptionist had plenty of time to call patients so they avoid a trip. read more

So my neurologist sent me here for an x-ray because he is a part of St Vincent's and would be able to review the films if I got them done at Optimal Imaging. I was able to get an appointment within a few days, they gave me an estimate of the cost over the phone. I won't know for a while if it was accurate or not (which makes me nervous, so I'll have to do an update on that when the bill comes through). The down-side is that it is billed as a hospital x-ray, so it will be more expensive, but the estimate was $59 and I can live with that, about $19 more than the price quoted at the out-patient radiology place. Given that this would allow my doctor easy access to the films I guess that will be worth the $19, as long as the estimate was accurate. The building was fairly easy to find, but watch out for the parking lot, the driveway is deceiving. Pull into the second drive even if it looks like it is the wrong one. I got stumped on where to park. The entrance is down some stairs and the entrance isn't very well-marked, but I figured it out. Once I got inside I got signed in and taken back right away, no waiting so that was great. The whole process only took a few minutes and I was on my way. So, a good experience all the way around. I recommend them. The front lobby looked clean and presentable. Nothing fancy, but nice. The person at the desk was pleasant. read more

Don't let the industrial appearance of the outside of the building dismay you. The inside is clean and very professional. Large waiting room with television, drinks & snacks and a bathroom. The ladies at the front desk are pleasant, helpful and go out of their way to make the registration process easier. I came here for an MRI and frankly, it was incredibly unpleasant - but that is the nature of the test and no reflection upon Optimal Imaging. Everyone here did their best to make sure I felt safe and comfortable the entire time. This is the second Optimal Imaging center I've been to (the other in Riverside) and I'm very pleased with both. What a nightmare! Dr. faxed order on a Monday and I was supposed to get a call from Optimal to schedule urgent imaging. By Weds I'd heard nothing but had success scheduling an appt online for the following Monday in case I didn't hear from them sooner for an earlier slot. When I called to check if there was an earlier appt they told me they hadn't gotten around to looking at dr. orders from three days earlier and so couldn't schedule me. I told them at least I had an online appt for Monday and they said "Oh we're closed Monday for the holiday!" As I'm asking how I got confirmation of an appt. and pointing out I'd lost 2-3 days thinking I had an appt., they fire off a cancellation email. Unreal. Then, they tell me they can schedule me for the Weds after if I can email them the dr. order (which was already faxed to them 3 days ago but they haven't gotten to it yet). I send them the dr. file notes and they say not good enough. I finally reach dr. and they email the order, and I also email it just in case. What's the result? The company ghosts me. Another day lost, no appt. and coming upon the weekend and holidays with a patient suffering. I Googled and found a closer site that let me set up prompt appt. on the phone with no jumping thru hoops. If they run their whole business this way I wouldn't want imaging done there. At first I was really upset when I arrived to find I did not have an appointment with the doctor I requested when I made the appointment. However, I was treated with respect and kindness by the receptionists and the tech who took me back to the office took time to explain that the doctor doing my procedure was trained by my previous doctor and his education and 10 year experience was top notch. I am glad I stayed. I got excellent service, kind and respectful service with everyone I came in contact with. THANK YOU for making me feel at ease. read more

Do NOT go here....if I could give zero stars I would. First, They scheduled my appointment without it being approved by my insurance... I sat for over an hour and they then told me I can either pay full price out of pocket or reschedule. I said I would reschedule, they called me the next day. We set up an appointment for 12pm "noon".... I got to the appointment and after 45 mins they came out and said they had me in the computer for 9am and I would have to wait until at least 2pm now for my appointment or I could reschedule AGAIN!!!! So I took 2 half days off work for them to screw up a simple appointment yet again.do not go here find someplace else to go. They are completely incompetent. read more

Patients beware. I was referred here by Southeast Orthopedics. After receiving my bill I was horrified to find I was billed at HOSPITAL RATES. Per my insurance, my cost would have been 1/5 the amount had I gone to a private practice. Seriously, $268 vs over $1500. St Vincent's does the billing and they are horrible to deal with. I strongly advise you check with your insurance company before you schedule an appointment here. UPDATE - I made so many calls about this bill to not only them, but Southeast Orthopedics and my insurance company United Healthcare. I should have stated before that they were listed with UH as in network. Seems St Vincent's bought them about 2 years ago and UH wasn't updated. My bill was lowered to 900 because UH told them they couldn't bill a portion of it because of the codes they used on the rest. I still wasn't happy with this amount. St Vincents had my bill under review so I would call periodically for updates, because they never called me. Then almost 6 months in I called and my bill was $400. I asked what happened to the other 500 and the woman on the phone had no answers. She said there were no notes on the account to explain it. (I didn't really believe her) She said if she were to ask questions, they might find it was a mistake and my bill would be $900 again. At this point I just paid the $400 and was done. I found St Vincent's customer service totally inept and sometimes rude. Glad to be done with them. read more

This the worst place to go and have a CT scan with contrast, the person that tried to do the contrast to my husband collapsed three veins and she continued to poke him even after my husband tried to get someone else, and the ignored my husband, and the sad part is that the same person was training someone else. read more

I have been to Optimal Imaging, Southside, JAX, in the care of Dr. Mazzella and his hand-picked top-notch nurses who assist him,3 times. I cannot speak highly enough of Dr. Mazzella and his staff. They are competent, caring, and as far as I am concerned, miracle workers. I am also very impressed with the two young ladies who work on the front desk. This is as good as it gets!!! I have been to Optimal Imaging/Southside three times and have always found the entire staff to be both friendly and professional. I am always greeted and welcomed as soon as I walk in. DO NOT GO TO THIS FACILITY. (OPTIMAL SOUTHSIDE _OP Imaging- University BLVD Jacksonville). My husband did an ultrasound and was billed for a professional reading fee which was not the case with other imaging centers. ULTRASOUND is 100% covered by CIGNA without the need to pay for copay or deductible. Cigna paid for the procedure, BUT MCB radiology found a way to further charge the patient for the professional reading fee $67.12. We went to this facility because our doctor recommended it and checked with the insurance before going there. I was told that we don't have to pay for anything as it is 100% covered. NOW I GOT THIS BILL. STAY AWAY FROM THIS FACILITY. This is my recommendation, and this will be relayed to my doctors. read more

This was one of the worst experiences I have had at an imaging center. I was told to faste for 6 hours only to come in and wait for over an additional hour. Many people who came in after me were seen and done before I ever went back. I will never use this place again read more

OMG........ this place is a joke. I set up a bone scan and mammogram and made sure a radiologist was there the day I went. I chose this facility because the girl I scheduled my appointment with told me the radiologist could speak with me concerning my mammogram immediately and I could have further test at the facility if needed. I have dense breast and always need a ultrasound afterwards. They lied! When I went there they said they don't do things that way......They hire incompetent morons who don't know anything. A month went by and I called my obgyn to find out my results. They never received them! I called Optimal Imaging ( which is St. Vincent's -very deceiving) and they sent my results to a doctor I never heard of!!!!!!! I am totally beyond pissed. I really gave them a earful and had to provide my ordering doctors name and number (what the hell?) do they only hire morons at St. Vincent's? My doctors office called me and left message that they received my results today ( 1 month later because I called and inquired my results from optimum imaging- which they sent to a doctor I never heard of) and I need follow up. What if I never inquired? Don't waste your time at these total f ups run by St. Vincents. I'm beyond upset. I would have never known my results if I didn't call this incompetent place..........they can stick the purple shirt, lip balm, and pen they give you for getting your yearly mammogram up their ass. read more
