I was attracted to Dr. Sand in particular because he is a certified ART (Active Release Technique) practitioner, a movement-based technique that gently guides soft tissue through range-of-motion exercises. Although I don't mind the occasional back-cracking approach to chiropractic, some of my issues just wouldn't be properly addressed that way, and I believe ART gets to the core of my issues. Using ART on the psoas is no easy feat, and it involves the practitioner having to dig into some rather sensitive areas of the body, from the inside of the ribs down to the pelvis. I appreciate a practitioner such as Dr. Sand who's not afraid to get in there, but always listening for any cues that I might be in pain. My appointment time with Dr. Sand always feels fulfilling; previous chiropractors I've been to like to administer treatments in bits and pieces, often giving me a taste of a really juicy adjustment but then telling me to come back another time for the rest. That's not the case with Dr. Sand, who will address all my problem areas thoroughly and keep an eye out for something I might not even be noticing. And he's never out to squeeze unnecessary visits out of you--he'll advise me to come back in two weeks, a month, etc, whereas other chiros I've seen in the past rope me into a 3-times-per-week schedule (however, I understand that some injuries and treatment plans do require such commitment). The staff at the Yardley office are all incredibly pleasant but not too freakishly happy (again, bad experience with other chiro offices). I feel valued as a patient, and they are good at periodically checking up on me as I lie with a heating pad on my back before the doctor comes in. Office hours are very convenient with evening and weekend slots, and it's usually relatively easy to make a 2-day-out or next-day appointment (sometimes even same-day!).

At the time, I didn't quite know the capabilities of functional medicine and was hesitant that I could restore my health. I had spent months using a wheelchair due to joint flares from Rheumatoid arthritis. And I was lethargic and in a debilitating brain fog due to hypothyroidism. All of which showed up in just a few months after taking a course of doxycycline. Dr. J was patient with me and answered my questions thoroughly. He ran some diagnostic tests to learn what exactly was going on with my body as a whole such as intolerances and deficiencies.
