This is for two visits when the optician helped me and another time when another fellow helped. I've come here more than just those two times since a couple years ago back when my friend raved about him and his wife going here for years. But for the purposes of this review and the stars I'm giving, these two guys rocked customer service for me because my vision is horrible, I am very self conscious about wearing glasses in the first place and getting the correct prescription EXTREMELY **CRITICAL** TO ME living my life. I had vision-affecting and fitting issues with frames I purchased here and these two gentlemen made it right with excellent CS. Each time, they patiently listened carefully to the issue and had solutions that made sense and then jumped into action The visit w the optician was so good, he IMMEDIATELY carved my current lenses into a much better frame than the previous defective frames, THEN he took over helped me work through purchasing another pair. 5 star, red carpet service! I came here because I failed a required vision test and I needed glasses asap so that I can retake the exam. My friend recommended Optical City and I am happy that he did. Upon entering the store, it was clean, spacious, organized, and fully staffed. I was greeted by Clive, Josh, and Claire. Clive asked how he can assist me. I advised him of my situation and my need to obtain glasses with urgency. It was close to the end of the day and he advised the Doctor was on her way out but he will work his magic. He went in the back and out came Doctor Vanessa. She placed her purse down, greeted me, handed me a few forms to fill out, then escorted me to the exam area. Vanessa did a very thorough eye examination in such a timely manner. She performed various examinations, one which included dialating my eyes. The entire examination took roughly an hour or maybe even less. I was then assisted by Claire to shop around for frames. They have a large variety of styles and frames for every face at very reasonable prices. I walked around and tried on several glasses. I picked out a few, then with the process of elimination I narrowed it down to a cute pair of frames that fit my face and looked chic and stylish. After selecting my frames, Josh explained the different types of lenses and treatments that can be applied to the lenses. I ordered UV protected, glare proof, scratch resistant lenses. Josh summed up my total and rang me up for my services and products. Once complete, Dr Vanessa said she would have Clive check the lenses to see if they have the lenses instock and he would cut it and frame them right away. I was extremely grateful for her empathy, acknowledging the dire situation, and assisting to find a solution to my problem. I was told it usually takes anywhere from 7-14 days to order frames. However, they went above and beyond to go the extra mile, close to the end of the business day, to cut lenses and provide the frames the same day. I am truly honored and blessed to have met such wonderful and caring people that went out of their way to help me. I will continue to brag about the 5 star service I was provided, and I will highly recommend Optical City to anyone needing a fresh pair of eyes! I left there singing... This place has gone down hill so quickly -it is sad. It used to be a great place to get glasses. Since the owers accident and the optometrist they hired, I would warn anyone to stay away. It seems like Medicare Fraud, or ageism?( charging insurance while charging the customer)not informing the customer they are doing so and the rudeness and incompetency of the Dr's secretary.( and now the owner.) (3 wks to send prescription to insurance+ only after I called the insurance lab).Service was always slow in getting your glasses but now it is such a terrible experience-certainly for a Senior. The owner who was a nice guy prior to his accident is now nasty,rude from one minute to the next.Friendly and showing us photos one minute-and suddenly nasty. He didn't even know me after 20 plus yrs. The contract he gave me from my insurance said $550 frame allowance(I chose the inexpensive ones he sells for $40 inc. lenses) and he wanted me to pay $40 for the frames??while charging the insurance company. ?? He wanted me to pick from a tray of dollar store glasses-if not. He couldn't explain why he was charging me and became suddenly agitated,stuttering and irrational and embarrassed us in front of the other customers(who were shocked) telling us to leave because we asked him to please call the insurance and straighten this out. We had been there 2.5 hrs at this point and my husbands glasses were fouled up on an existing prescription as well.(I was buying 3 prs of glasses and insurance was only covering 1. I was paying Optical City for tint on the ones they were covering as well. What kind of business turns on people they were friends with suddenly?We never raised our voices,( I said I'd pray for him) but I guess when he fell and hit his head he became 2 different personalities.So sad. But a waste of time and effort. There was no advance notice on the changes they were making and the new Dr's secretary told my insurance yesterday-they were paid for the frames last year, and told me the same thing(but it wasn't enough-so they are double dipping?? and now denies saying it to my face.I have all the paperwork and the navigator has the tape.( I guess getting her "hand caught in the cookie jar "made her change her story read more

Extremely attentive and knowledgeable staff! As a walk-in, I was taken care of within 2 minutes and received tailored and personalized attention based on my optometric needs. I walked in with an old prescription thinking it was still good and the average place probably would've just taken it. But I was strongly advised to use my current vision prescription (used the ones in my glasses) and got new prescription lenses switched for my frames and was delivered within a few days. This place is reasonably priced for eye exams and a great deal for glasses and frames. I didn't find the exact frames I wanted but since I had my heart set on a pair of Tiffany frames they ordered them for me for much less than other quotes I had gotten. I waited about a week for my custom frames and the lenses were made within a day. This place is great and the customer service is top notch. My glasses broke 3 days before Christmas!!!! I walked in after being referred from a family friend and was greeted immediately by Clive!!!!! Optical City has gone downhill fast - they used to be a well-run business, but since last summer, the store has gone downhill in terms of customer service and caring - from an unprofessional to downright rude doctor's nurse, and the owner now seems more concerned with opening his new store than in taking care of existing clients like my wife(who has gone here for over 20 years since the owner was a salesperson there) and myself(having gone here for more than 5 years) and ignoring insurance guidelines as they claim they were not paid(enough) - they cannot even make the glasses correctly as the last two pairs had to be rejected(1 was remade correctly BUT it was a REMAKE of an existing prescription - simply inexcusable to mess up , but no apology or trace of caring) in addition, they seem to be ignoring the policies of Medicare in terms of providing service - go elsewhere if you need genuine eyecare, not here as you get a dose of attitude with every pair of glasses...and then they have to remake them...avoid...final note, my insurance told me that they rejected the claim from them... read more

Dr. Karen Malcolm-Griffith, OD is a really great optometrist (IMO)! It was my first time seeing her and she was very friendly and very professional. She found something in my eye, which looked to be glaucoma and she took her time explaining how a "normal" eye should look and googled an image of how my eye looks. She referred me to an eye specialist at the Ft. Lauderdale Eye Institute, which is another great place. I have had other eye exams (Lenscrafters) and when they dilate my eyes, the other place never gave me anything to make me comfortable, but Dr. Malcolm-Griffiths provided me with disposable sunglasses, which took the glare of the lights off and made my eyes less irritated. It was definitely much appreciated! She was busy on a Saturday, but definitely took her time explaining everything, especially after I was worried about the possibility of glaucoma. The eye glass selection area was different. They were very busy and couldn't find someone to help me. I couldn't find a pair I really liked, so I purchased my glasses elsewhere, but definitely recommend seeing Dr. Malcolm-Griffiths for your eye exams! read more

The BEST! Optical City really saved the day for me! One crazy hot Saturday afternoon last month I was on my patio painting a piece for a customer of mine, that was due to pick up the piece that evening. My glasses kept sliding down my nose. I finally whipped them off and the arm snapped in the middle! OMG! I'm pretty blind without them. Couldn't see to paint! I went to Optical City; they cut down my lenses, fitted them into another frame, all for a very reasonable price, and I was back on my patio painting in 1 hour flat! Optical city goes the extra mile while helping out there clients. I recently came in due to a sunglass purchase I made online after wearing them once a bolt fell out leaving one of the sunglass stems to fall off. After going to a couple of eyeglass stores without any luck of getting them fixed I was greeted by a gentleman named Jair, in under 5 minutes my glasses were like new. Great Dr. Karen Malcolm-Griffith, DO is super friendly and professional and obviously loves her job. She spends the time to do thing right and explain everything. The eyeglasses were reasonably priced, even for the Crizal Sapphire lenses I wanted. I got a great pair of Penguin frames, and the whole works cost much, much less than my previous pair from another company. The only negative, and it is a minor one, is that the glasses took an extra week to be ready, and I had to keep calling to check in on them. First my husband started here,then my daughter now myself. Been coming for over 2 years now. The staff is phenomenal. The doctor is out of this world. Dr. Griffith did a thorough exam and took her time to explain everything. The staff has gone over and above the call of duty to insure that both pairs of my glasses were nothing but perfect..... Unfortunately my issue took a little longer than normal (had nothing to do with optical city) but trust me, not one staff member stopped until they were able to get everything taken care of and making sure my glasses were perfect. I have been to many eye places and this company has far succeeded all of them. They have promptly contacted me and stayed on top of everything. They have a nice selection of eye wear to choose from for both adults and children. They even have a small entertainment area for young ones while they are taking care of you.
