On my visit I got two pastries to try: Soboro Cream ($3.49) - Instead of a delicately crackly cookie crust, this bun has a much softer, almost moist topping, which may be due to them placing the bread in the packaging before being fully cooled off, allowing the bun to steam too much. There's a bunch of sweetened stabilized cream inside that's sweet and oily. The bread itself is kind of dry and crumbly, either not a typical milk bread recipe or perhaps it had been sitting on the shelf for too long. (2/5) Corn Mochi ($5.99) - This comes with six pieces. The corn mochi has a nice chewy tapioca flour base. There's black sesame sprinkled throughout giving a burst of nutty flavor. I expected to see whole corn kernels baked inside but I think they just use corn flour in the dough. It's way less sweet than the soboro. My 18 year old daughter and I looked at each other, and I think we were both thinking the same thing. I told the girl behind the counter "forget it" and we walked out of there. On our way out I said to my kids out loud, "sorry guys, I don't think the workers want to stay any longer than they have to." It is obvious that if there is ice cream for the pie scream, there IS also ice cream for the shakes: ice cream goes with both! I wasn't born yesterday, and they could've just told me to my face- and I would've been okay with it- "sorry we're about to close and we don't have time to make your orders", instead of making up some bs about "not having ice cream" when clearly they did. I would've totally been fine had she been honest about having to close soon. I just don't like being lied to. Regardless, if the workers do not want to serve customers 10 minutes before closing, perhaps think about locking the front doors so no customer comes in. Or, put the sign that reads "closed".
