The Principal and staff have developed a positive, welcoming, and inclusive school culture. Mrs. Krantz genuinely cares about ALL kids and her students know that! There are an abundance of electives to meet the diverse interests of 7th and 8th graders. My boys thrived in the band program and my daughter loved learning ASL, taking art, and is now part of ASB. There have always been a core group of wonderful parents to help support La Mesa as well! I would highly recommend this school to any parent looking for an excellent school for their 7th or 8th grader!

If I could give this school a zero I would. The staff here DO NOT CARE about kids or parents…read more During meetings or events all staff fill their MOUTHS saying how they are there for they students but yet NO ONE cares enough to reply to an email or provide with an update. They lock their gates for SAFETY of the students while inside those gates the students are fighting and being at each other's throat amongst themselves. And when you demand an explanation the current AP Ms. Landeros does nothing else but to blow you off. The same goes for Ms. Lucero. And the principal well aware of the staff he has DOES absolutely NOTHING. I hate the public system entitled employees that do nothing all day but pretend to work an hour of their day and on top of that DEMAND higher paid, what for? I think you ALL are paid just enough to be sitting around your ASS all day!! Ignoring parents.

I can only speak about the football stadium, as I didn't see the rest of the campus. Apparently,…read morethis is a large high school, judging by the sprawl of facilities. The way that Google Maps directed us, we came around the perimeter of the sports facilities, not knowing where the parking for the stadium would be, but following the light standards until we found it. The parking lot in that area is large, with solar carport-type covers. Given how hot and sunny it gets there, this is a great idea. It was 100 degrees at 4:00 for game time. In an interesting arrangement, West Ranch High School's Wildcats use the stadium as their "home" venue, as their own field doesn't have light stanchions. Wish we'd realized that before driving to West Ranch first. By the time we got over to Valencia High, I was feeling frazzled about missing the start of the game. The parent boosters selling / taking tickets were very friendly and gracious. As we made our way to the visitors side we passed the snack bar. Though the game was underway, they weren't ready to sell anything. Even a frozen lemonade wasn't happening. Later, at halftime, dear hubby went over and scored $5 cheeseburgers for us that weren't half bad. The venue has a gorgeous setting, up on a rise so that the view beyond is of the mountains separating the Santa Clarita Valley from the San Fernando Valley. There was a suggestion of a vista of Mt. Diablo in Contra Costa County up north that had me nostalgic for my original hometown. I'd say the visitors side has the best view, actually.

Spend your money for your children's tuition elsewhere unless you want your children's mental…read morehealth to be ruined. To start off, I'm very grateful that I got closer to the Lord from this school. However, I cannot express how much this school does not care about you. I have had to start therapy from this school alone. I understand that kids are mean (it's a given), but when you inform the people who are "supposed" to help you, they don't. And if you say anything about the staff and their actions, you're putting yourself and your child at risk. For example, a girl who we can call G in the 6th grade was arguing with another girl (let's call her S) outside of the school campus, and somehow all the girls in the grade got involved, which lead to G being called the B word. Although, G suffered more consequences than the girl calling G the B word. And not to mention the fact that the girl who called G the B word also told G that she should've never existed and she should die. If you don't understand what I'm trying to say, they don't care what happens to you as long as they can get you to hush. Another example where the same girl, G, was getting bullied by a boy in her class, and the teacher began to bully her as well. We were supposed to be celebrating G's birthday. The teacher and the boy bullied her by calling her names. No one seemed to care, other than laugh. Listen, I'm writing this for the sake of your children so they don't have to go through this. Besides the constant bullying from children and staff, there are many creeps who walk in the back of the school, where the playground is. One time a man came to the back of the campus and tried to interact with other children from the other side of the fence. Yes, i know this is not on the campus but not much was done about it. Furthermore, the class sizes are extremely small (about 15-18 students). If one kid is sick, your child will come home sick as well. Sickness spreads like a wildfire there. Elbows are touching. Sanitation is also awful. I fully expect and know that kids are messy, but the janitors do not clean. Constantly food on the floor with atrocious bathrooms collecting bacteria. For SCCS to market it as the best school in the valley, it's a horrible scam. For the grades that are required to change for P.E., there aren't even proper locker rooms. It's a bathroom with a wall for "privacy". So, anyone can walk in and go to the bathroom while watching you change. Constantly a stampede in that room as well. I know space is limited, but they could do better for the amount you're paying. All in all, SCCS is a train wreck.

This school is pretty heartless and does not care about all kids and families equally. If you are…read moreexactly like them and keep your mouth shut, you'll be fine. If you are vocal about the quality of their staff or your child is being bullied, they will unenroll you through email and delete you like you never existed. My son went to this school for 5 years. We started in kindergarten and had a wonderful experience our first year. The next year we had a teacher who had no business teaching kids, even 1st graders. She was socially awkward and had no idea how to handle parents or children. I volunteered in that class weekly and let me tell you it was chaos. I had to speak to the dean about a couple situations and they blew me off and acted like I was the only one having problems. 4 other moms that I know of complained that year about that teacher and luckily she didn't return. The following year we got a new teacher and she seemed much better for it being her first year. However, there was a situation where she called my son a liar in front of the whole class over a prayer he requested and made him say it wasn't true before she would let it go. They never ended up praying for my son and his story wasn't a lie. I tried emailing her regarding it and even sent her the flyer for the program he was in and she refused to accept our story although what my son was saying was an accurate statement. That year changed him. She really destroyed his confidence and no one from the school seemed to care. We prayed for a better year in 3rd grade and again got a brand new teacher to the school who was awful to boys! Many of us complained and our sons cried most of the year. While they did not ask her to return to teaching the following year, they never checked on us or our kids after meeting with admin and just moved on. Several families did not return. I decided to give it one more year(I feel like a failure admitting that) hoping we could turn it around but in 4th grade while the teacher was great, my son started getting bullied. He had boys physically attack him multiple times. I would get notified with a text or email but nothing ever changed. After bringing it to the dean and admins attention after several incidents going unresolved, they unenrolled through email! Deleted us from the system as if we never existed! I was a mom who wanted the best education possible for my child and they failed us every turn! When I vocalized my displeasure, they in turn treated us like the disappointments. To unenroll a child in the middle of the year without once trying to make things right or meet with us regarding this situation shows a lack of empathy and quality of care that any person should be ashamed of let alone a Christian school. The craziest part, is I'm not the first family to be unenrolled in their school via email. They hide their failures and just try to pray us away. While my heart was originally broken, this school failed my son and sadly I allowed it to happen longer than a parent should have. I hope this review will help the next family not make the same mistake I did.
