Oak Hills Elementary is an amazing school academically wise, can be somewhat better, but one thing…read morethat caught my eye is the school staff. My children always come home informing me that the safety supervisors can definitely be nicer. To demonstrate what I'm trying to say, my daughter complains to me that this one particular staff member who works during recess and lunch yells a lot at children and can say unnecessary things. Along with taking away specific privileges, which for an elementary school doesn't make sense if you barley did anything wrong. Mrs KK I think that's the name. I don't mean to be disrespectful, but the staff can be really disappointing, and should definitely improve.

The way that Google Maps directed us, we came around the perimeter of the sports facilities, not knowing where the parking for the stadium would be, but following the light standards until we found it. The parking lot in that area is large, with solar carport-type covers. Given how hot and sunny it gets there, this is a great idea. It was 100 degrees at 4:00 for game time. In an interesting arrangement, West Ranch High School's Wildcats use the stadium as their "home" venue, as their own field doesn't have light stanchions. Wish we'd realized that before driving to West Ranch first. By the time we got over to Valencia High, I was feeling frazzled about missing the start of the game. The parent boosters selling / taking tickets were very friendly and gracious. As we made our way to the visitors side we passed the snack bar. Though the game was underway, they weren't ready to sell anything. Even a frozen lemonade wasn't happening. Later, at halftime, dear hubby went over and scored $5 cheeseburgers for us that weren't half bad. The venue has a gorgeous setting, up on a rise so that the view beyond is of the mountains separating the Santa Clarita Valley from the San Fernando Valley. There was a suggestion of a vista of Mt. Diablo in Contra Costa County up north that had me nostalgic for my original hometown. I'd say the visitors side has the best view, actually.

Our son started…read moreat Legacy in kindergarten and is now in first grade, and seeing how much he has grown and how genuinely excited he is to go to school has been such a breath of fresh air. He wants to read, do math problems, and tell us about what he learned that day. I'm constantly impressed by the thoughtful questions he comes home with, and I love seeing his confidence and curiosity grow. His teachers have been wonderful, and I really appreciate having two teachers in each classroom. But what I love most is how personal the whole school feels. His teachers, staff, administrators, and coaches know him by name, and he has made some really wonderful friendships. He truly feels like he belongs there. Something I honestly didn't think much about when we were choosing a school, but now appreciate SO much, is the expectation that parents are involved in their kids' education. There is a real partnership between the school, teachers, and parents. Knowing what your child is working on, reading with them, practicing at home, and being involved is just part of the culture, and I didn't realize how much I would value that until we experienced it. And he gets to have fun too! He LOVES his enrichment classes. In kindergarten, he came home so excited that he was learning Microsoft Paint in computer class, and he told us the whole story of Noah's Ark from Bible class. From the moment our family became part of the Legacy community, it has felt like so much more than just a school. It truly feels like a family. The teachers genuinely know, love, and care for their students. They are intentional about helping each child grow not only academically, but also in their character, confidence, and faith. I'm continually grateful for the way our girls are encouraged, challenged, supported, and prayed for by the people who pour into them each day. One of the things I appreciate most about Legacy is the strong sense of community. There are so many opportunities for students and families to get involved, whether through athletics, fine arts, student leadership, chapel, service, or school events. There is a real effort to make every student feel known and included and to create experiences and memories that extend far beyond the classroom. I also love that faith isn't treated as something separate from the school day. Biblical truth is woven into the culture of the school, and students are encouraged to grow in their relationship with Christ while learning what it looks like to lead, serve, show kindness, and care for others. After seeing firsthand what it looks like when your child isn't thriving at school, we don't take for granted what we have found at Legacy. Seeing our daughters happy, confident, growing in their faith, and genuinely excited to be at school is something we are incredibly thankful for. Legacy Christian has been such a blessing to our entire family, and we couldn't recommend it more highly!
