The Opera House is a large bistro restaurant covering two floors in Wan Chai. The lower floor is a more casual cafe style, specialising in pizzas and small plates, whereas the upstairs dining room is reserved for your fine dining experience.
With so much great Italian food already available in Hong Kong, one wonders why you should make a beeline to this particular restaurant. The dishes are a little bit expensive, for example the home-made gnocchi is just under HK$180, the pizzas start at around HK$150, through to around HK$230, and the lamb chops around HK$290. However, to be fair, they are excellently prepared, and very tasty. Unfortunately, the amazing roast chicken main course they had a couple of weeks ago, no longer looks like it is on the menu - booo!
I also really like the atmosphere of the upstairs dining room here. It is large and spacious, and not to intimate, so you feel that you can go there with a group of friends. In my mind, it is very much a family style dining experience. There is also a private room out the back towards the toilets, which is great if you or another party are quite raucous. You can be separated from the other diners!
The staff are very friendly and accommodating, the chef is often found wandering around the restaurants, never chatting, just passing through and giving the diners a quick wave. Definitely give it a go if you are feeling quite flush, it's a good place to impress a date, or your boss! read more
