Now I enjoy the beauty of other people bending their bodies in ways I cannot even imagine. We came to see Fancy Footwork which was a fundraiser for the dancers to apply for various grants. Fancy Footwork was a series of short 2-5 minute dances that were a combination of classic and modern dance. In short- we LOVED it! I love not knowing what is coming next. The modern dance which typically I am less a fan of then the classics was jaw droopingly gorgeous and creative. The studio on Santa Fe is also small and intimate and the audience sat in a bleacher style set up that made for a really special night.

Then the kids get to dance and act out portions of the story using props. All the students seem to have fun pretending to be part of the story. I right away informed Julie Gill that I can't attend the class for August 4th. She never call or texted back so I called my bank and told them I need to cancel these 2 transactions. One for $450 and one for $875. Today is September 1st 2024, my bank informed me that the merchant said that the service was provided and that they wish to keep both the $875 and the $450. My bank informed me that the only way to get my money is through a small claim court. But I can't file a small claim court since her business address does not appear anywhere online and she refuses to provide a mailing address. Be careful purchasing anything online from this business since your money will be kept and you will never be able to get a hold of anyone.

There was a skimpy portion of thin and fatty odds and ends of ham, some coagulated super garlicky mashed potatoes with no butter or gravy, and steamed green beans which were flavorless and completely unadorned. The seating was incredibly cramped, and I did not enjoy sharing a table with complete strangers. There was an air conditioning vent blowing directly down onto me, and the wall behind me was filthy with dust bunnies and lint. By the end of the show several people in my general vicinity started displaying signs of irritability due to the tight quarters. The show I saw was A Christmas Story, and while the classic movie translated to the stage better than I thought it would, I felt there were a few elements that should have been excluded - such as the racism in the Chinese restaurant scene, the sexism in just about every scene with women in it, the portrayal of smoking, and the overacting (even for a community theater production where part of the appeal is the campiness) that I honestly don't remember being present in previous shows I have been to. One last thing - if you are going to do a show that features a firearm (even an unloaded BB gun) for f*ck's sake please educate your actors on proper handling. The barrel of anything (even an unloaded BB gun) pointed in my direction is gut twistingly uncomfortable.

The mashed sweet potatoes are heavenly! The dessert was okay; store-bought raspberry cheesecake. The show was pretty good too. There were some missteps in some of the dance numbers (near drop, near fall into orchestra pit), and a couple of wardrobe malfunctions (ripped pants, ripped hemline), but otherwise the show was very enjoyable. Now the question is: are these servers who act, or actors who serve? Because they do both very well!
