Worst customer service! Christi has an awful attitude for someone who is supposed to be representing your company! I came in with the $10 off $25 purchase coupon & she acted annoyed immediately when i handed it to her. Then when I noticed something rang up different from the shelf tag she copped an enormous attitude & told me it didn't matter as I was already getting $10 off. I asked her to check with the manager who was thankfully very kind & adjusted the price and I let him know that it was appreciated. Then as I'm paying she rudely tells me that I was taking advantage of the situation! What?! I told her I did not appreciate her attitude & she sarcastically said she was just reciprocating! So she admitted she was being rude to me on purpose! Then when I asked her about stamping the green stamp paper she said very aggressively -"definitely not", because she had bagged my stuff & i used a credit card! I had specifically told her I would grab my own box when she was ringing me up and at no point did I tell her to use a bag! I was being so patient with her snarky attitude until that point & then I was done! I told her I wanted to lodge a complaint with the manager & that set her off even more! I could tell the manager didn't really care, he looked tired. No apology for how i was treated, barely any acknowledgement. Beyond disappointing customer service! I have only been in 2 times previously, but this is definitely my last time shopping here! There are too many other stores that I would rather spend my money! I don't deserve to be spoken to & treated like that! If you don't want people to come in & use the coupons, then don't waste the money advertising & printing them in the paper for people to use! Open harvest has many unique things you cannot get anywhere else.. they offer many items in bulk and so many things that are 100% repurposed and recyclable.. I find things here I have not found anywhere to else. Produce always looks great and they offer many Fl different choices I. The deli and the pre packaged food area.. I love supporting local stores, farmers, makers, and other local food-providers. Open Harvest provides. The deli section has creative and tasty options. Sometimes it leaves me wanting but I know that the reason is not for lack of effort or laziness. Co-ops survive on sales (obvs). So if more people patronage the co-op, the greater ability the board and managers will have in making decisions to provide a greater selection. There are some cities that have BUSTLING, VIBRANT co-ops. Big, extensive hot and cold bars for lunch and dinner, huge selections, juice bars and cafes. But this all comes from growth and starts with people choosing the co-op over bigger stores. I get it. I have a child, bills to pay, student loans, etc. But I also choose to spend my money where I see positive change and impact. So I choose to get most items here. Granted there are times when a trip to target is necessary. But my number one stop is HERE!! I hope they can build up a reserve of funds so they are able to soon move and/or expand and are able to offer more (and possibly cheaper) options. My favorite treats outside the standard grocery haul are their orange pecan scones, nutrilicious cookies, ginger cookies, burritos, and tofu pad Thai. They also do a great job of stocking new and innovative natural make up and skin care lines. They have some good mascara options and the prices are same if not lower than sephora-with better ethics! read more

I love Open Harvest! They have a great deli with great variety, especially if you get there early in the day. I'm especially glad to support local food producers. They also have other amazing things including catnip pillows locally made. I got one for my daughter's cat. After bringing it home, her cat spent the rest of the day sleeping and lounging on that pillow! Wherever the pillow is is her where she likes to rest. Got a second pillow for our outdoor cat and she loves it as well. I'm also very happy with the selection of essential oil's. They have a lot of variety and information at the store on what each oil's benefits are. read more

Really awesome Co-Op I just happened to be getting coffee next too so I popped in! Great looking produce, and hobba sections. They have Cliff Builder Bars on Sale for members.. I'm not a member here but since I am in Ames, IA's Wheatsfield Co-Op they gave me the member discount on the Builder Bar! Which they didn't have to do but was super sweet of them! I spend thousands of dollars at the co-op each week. But I hate to go in there because they love controlling people and forcing them to wear masks, even though there's a 99% survivability rate. I was reluctant to write this review but at this point I think it needs to be brought to the public's attention. I purchased their ready-made salmon for years and ate it 3 to 4 times a week when they offered it. After nearly 3 years I developed a horrendous rash that looked like a sunburn over 3/4 of my body. I would never have guessed it was the salmon but after eliminating everything else in my diet, it ended up being the culprit. They get their salmon from the Faroe Islands and upon some quick research found nothing but glowing reviews. After digging deeper I found it is some of the most polluted and toxic salmon in the world. I was to the point of having organ deterioration from all the pollutants in this food. When I spoke to the food manager she acted very concerned and said she would look for an alternative source and call me back. I am dying without my salmon but waited patiently for nearly 2 months. When she never called back I finally called her again to see what she had found out as she originally seemed very alarmed about the toxic salmon. I left her a message but she still has not called me back after 2 weeks. The salmon is still for sale. I think other people need to be aware if they eat as much salmon as I did and they are developing a rash after time. (By the way, I have never had a rash of any kind in my entire life).This could have been lethal for me but fortunately I caught it in the nick of time. I have a friend who was experiencing the same symptoms and had been eating super saver farmed salmon. He was actually getting his business in order as he knew he was dying. Because of my experience I was able to save his life also. But I have to say it leaves a bad taste in my mouth of how business is conducted there. read more

I visit Lincoln for work a couple times a year and love to stop here to grab some of their yummy prepared foods. I've tried the Peruvian Quinoa, Hummus, and Tofuna. All were pretty tasty. Everyone I came into contact with at the store was pleasant and asked if I needed any help. Since the closest whole foods and trader joes are in Omaha. Not any pricier than any other organic food type of place. They have a decent selection of produce and bulk food items as well as organic, vegan, gluten free products. Would be nice if they had more hot food selections. read more

We like Open Harvest a lot. We don't do all of our grocery shopping there because of the high prices and limited selection, but we do pick up stuff from time to time. The items they make in-house and what they have in their deli are by far the best features of the store. Their cookies and desserts are really good. We probably get burritos from the deli at least once per week. They are inexpensive (one of the very few things in the store that is) and taste great! However, my 3-star rating is mostly because of customer service. It's been a mixed bag in the deli. Sometimes they are friendly and efficient. Other times, not so much. Recently, we went to the store at 6:30pm to get burritos. The sign out front clearly says the deli is open until 7pm. When we walked in, we stood there for a few minutes before the girl behind the deli even acknowledged our presence (although she had clearly seen us). She then very rudely said, "you can have something out of the case if you want, but the burritos and nachos have been put away and aren't available." She obviously knew we were regulars for burritos. I asked why it was closing early, and she simply repeated exactly what she had said previously with an impatient look on her face. Well, pardon me for thinking that when a sign says something is open until 7 that I expect it to be open until 7! Since then, neither my wife or I have wanted to go back. We miss the burritos, but as people who work very hard to support local businesses and restaurants, we don't take kindly to very rude treatment. read more

So as everyone were saying this place is awesome. Agreed. Awesome food, awesome stuff etc. However! Everything here is between 50% - 100% more expensive than that of other places. Apples that you can usually buy for $1.3 ~ $1 5/lb, here it's $2/lb. Yogurt that I used to but a lot instead of $3.5 - $4, here it's $7.5 High prices for a grocery store. Note for community - don't mark this place as cheap if you are in fact rich. Yes this place is good. But also YES it is very expensive. Any major food chain is almost twice cheaper. read more

We've been members of Open Harvest for almost a year. I have really enjoyed shopping there, since there is really no better source of organic/natural/local food in Lincoln. The other grocery stores in Lincoln seem to be a little unreliable in their organic offerings. The employees there are helpful and nice. There is a deli with to-go food that is always good. Open Harvest makes quite a few products itself, and I especially like the hummus and the sandwiches. They also sell free-range eggs from Common Good Farm, which is a local farm. Next to the eggs, there is a picture of the chickens running free on the farm, which I, as an animal-loving type, really enjoy. The only problem is that the prices are pretty high, which is to be expected. If you become a member, which is $25 annually, you can take 5% off of your purchase once a month. I try to buy most of my non-perishables at once every month in order to take advantage of the discount. read more

I've been a member here for a couple of months, and absolutely love it. I don't eat factory farmed meats, and Open Harvest has the best selection of local farms that raise grass-fed beef, as well as pork, chicken, lamb...am I forgetting any? The produce is good (although I think it's the same as what you'd get at Super Saver through the winter-it's all grown in Mexico) and you can get spring greens, mushrooms, per pound instead of buying it in a package. Spices you can also get in bulk, which is really nice since some expensive ones you won't use that much-that's probably the best part about open harvest! You can also get take out here, their deli always looks amazing, and their cheese selection is the best in Lincoln. Beyond that, some of their regular organic goods are slightly more expensive--save your money and get your almond butter at walmart. read more

I try to buy all my bulk herbs and spices here because the value is amazing. I also love the selection of cheeses and bulk oils, honey, yeast, flour, beans, grains, etc. I think it's relatively pricey, but I could deal with that except for ONE BIG THING, which is that their employees are..............well..........rude and snotty, disinterested, chat with each other and not with customers and really take most of the enjoyment out of 80% of my shopping visits. Sad to say, they may drive a lot of people into the welcoming arms of Whole Foods, which is a shame. read more

Love supporting local Co-op, but Open Harvest always leaves me wanting. Example: We were told by the deli clerk they were out of tempeh; therefore he was unable to make a tempeh rueben. Interesting because I had tempeh in my cart. This is not the first time employees fail to provide decent customer service. Love the selection of local items, but I'm tired of crappy customer service. I didn't spend as much time as I'd like for a full review, due to other melting groceries in my car. But here's my first impression: Pricey, which I'd expect for an organic grocer. It seems to only sell local produce, which I thought was very impressive. There were plenty of the traditional "organic food" options -- including different kinds of nuts, different kinds of nut butters, vegan and gluten-free foods, wheat pastas, meatless frozen foods, etc. I did end up buying some of my favorite frozen Indian meals, and found my absolute favorite pita chips (Stacy's garden vegetable, I'm addicted). The cheese selection was really great, with plenty of different kinds. They were out of Manchego (my current cheese-du-jour) which was a bummer, but it's a cheese they regularly have which made me happy. It appears that if I was interested in requesting different kinds of imported cheese, that they would see if it was possible -- and this alone accounts for the 4 stars. I'm not sure if I'd shop here for anything else but the cheese, because I'm a poor grad student and not overly organic-crazy. Altogether decent set-up, just not my scene. I really like this place. They have cool raffles (last month was a TREK bike paired with bike bags stuffed with co-op goodies), really good premade and fresh foods. Some of my favorite goodies there are the house-made hummus, the marinaded feta and olives to the black beans and organic rice. As you would expect, it's pricy and things run out at small local venues, but this place is worth a try for good groceries. read more

I tried to do all of my grocery shopping here but I decided that I like to have money left over to spend on other things. Nonetheless, I've never been dissatisfied with anything I've ever bought here. The meat offerings are incredible with respect to quality, and the slices of cake and other baked goods are mind-blowing. I paid the "member-owner dues" once, but the 5% discount is not much of a sell for me. Your ownership stake expires in one year. Not sure how that works. read more

Wow, where to begin... We have been members for years now and I always stop in whenever I am in town which is at least once a month. I have always found service to be decent to great depending on the time of day/week. But more often than not it is above average and there is always someone willing to help. Sure they carry things most health food stores do and their prices seem to be above average in that area. But they also carry store specific things and that brings us back month after month. Their scones are yummy and several varieties that are truly dairy free which is really important if you don't do dairy. They also carry bison cranberry burgers which are very good. And their noodles are amazing! There are standards but also unique flavors like black olive or spinach. We get the cage free brown eggs which is pretty much the only eggs we use. The store is small but there are plenty of options! Open Harvest has a decent size cold section and they used to carry Marcon pies which are absolutely dairy free. And we could even order whole pies which was great since they're made in a bakery down in Washington, Kansas. They no longer sell Marcon and that would be one thing I am not happy about but they are still an excellent place to shop. There is a deli with several options including coffee but there isn't much seating room so it's mainly a to-go kind of thing. Food is always fresh and tasty and there is a little seating area with a microwave if you do choose to eat in. There is also a vitamin/supplement area but I find the options to be limited and more expensive than other places. read more

This store is amazing. I thoroughly enjoy shopping here until I run into people working here! Prices can be high but their quality is excellent. My shopping trips here are fine until I go to checkout. Then I realize I must not be high enough on the cool scale because I am always treated rudely. Their Mexican Chocolate Cake (and a few other deli/bakery items) are delicious, but they're not worth the rudeness that you will encounter. I've waited in lines (with very few customers) for up to 10 minutes because the cashiers are talking with one another (not about work). I've called and asked simple questions (about products they carry) that they will not answer (I've received responses like "I don't know, I don't think so."-- but no offer to check, or "I don't know, but I'm closing the doors now [10 minutes before they close, and for something any decent employee should know]. I wouldn't be so irritated, but it happens almost every time I go there. I really want to support them because they are local and in my neighborhood, but I'm done. :( read more

This place is an awesome coop! If you want organic foods, and ethically obtained products/foods, this is the place for you. It may be a little pricier than similar stores around town, but it's worth it. The cheese department is great and managed by a very knowledgeable person. If you want a quick lunch, go to the deli and try a potato burrito. It's delicious and inexpensive. In addition to the great grocery selection, deli and vitamin section, the employees are another reason to shop there. The staff are well-trained and make you feel at home. read more
