Maybe a 4.5 star experience but I can't bring myself to round down, so up it is!…read more An absolutely stunning hotel and restaurant. Well worth the 35 mins drive from Edinburgh city centre. Impressive to say the least. We took my mum there for Mother's Day as they had a reasonably priced set menu on offer (I say reasonably in the sense that I'd have expected to pay more at a chez roux restaurant!). The mains of confit of duck and beef were fabulous. My Yorkshire pudding was a bit greasy but I'm picking fault here. I ate the whole thing! My pâté starter was tasty, kind of terrine like, wrapped in pastry. Yummy. My mum and brother both had the haddock. It seemed to go down well (i don't eat fish so couldn't try) although Simon said he didn't think what he had was representative of the menu description. Clean plates all round though! My cheese board was the star of the show for me. Check out the picture I posted. Yes! It was ALL mine! I liked that you didn't have to pay a supplement for the cheese as all too often greedy restaurants attempt to do. Not here! 6 small but adequate bits of cheese each of which are explained upon serving. Top it off with quince jelly, a generous portion of crackers, grapes, celery AND chutney... Drool..... The food was gorgeous, not without tiny faults here and there but you'd have to look very hard to pick at anything really. The small touches really made the experience 5 star for me. Homemade canapés, warm bread and homemade treats with our coffee inc macaroons, blackberry jellies and chocolate covered walnuts. I was so stuffed by that point but it would have been rude not to....:) The only thing I could criticise was the service. It was a bit slow. I don't mind having a lazy Sunday lunch but why they moved us from our comfy fire seat to the dinner table but took another 15 mins to serve the starters is beyond me. Move us when the food is nearly ready next time please. Unfortunately it started to snow as we left - I had really wanted to take a walk around the grounds. From what I could see of the garden from the window I know it will be beautiful in the summer. I took a peek at the afternoon tea menu and I will definitely be back! The prices seemed quite reasonable. You must go here! It's more of a special occasion place but if you have loads of money or just fancy a blow out then what the hell!

This place is located far away from all the turmoil of every day's life, but still close enough to…read moreget into Edinburgh under half an hour. A hidden gem stone! Get first class servings, walk along the sandy beaches, view parts of the Firth of Forth, experience some of the surrounding golf clubs...... That's what I did. As soon as you drive into the private pathway you feel like being sent back in time. The staff welcomes you with elegant courtesy and you are accompanied to your room, feeling at home straight away (some less or more I assume :-) ). The rooms are adequately decorated and very clean. We had a cheaper priced room, but be wary that the cheapest room during off peak season is about £240 for 2 people sharing. Lol. If you can call this cheap..... For single occupancy I think you pay from £210 upwards. it's outrageous that single people are always charged more. As we have the money.... When dining you are being served with gallant mannerism ensuring that your needs are being met satisfactory. The food is very tasty and delicious, but take into account that if you eat in the a la cart restaurant you might be hit by a higher than £50 bill charge per person. So be prepared! The menu changes, such expect to get something different another time around. If you want to spoil your other half - then do! There is no doubt that because of its prestigious and expensive existence this place might only be affordable for special occasions or if you are not hit by recession. But if you are able to go there, enjoy the tranquillity that it has to offer. I know I will be back soon for Afternoon Tea, which is around £18.50 and therefore "just" affordable.

Thank you Yelp, I just lost my entire review of this place…read more.. Our main reason for choosing this place was the fact that it was located a little way out of the town centre (but still in easy walking distance), and that their menu looked good on the seafood front, as they have a connection with the Lobster Shack on the town pier. We stayed for a couple of nights on a weekend getaway. Be warned, the hotel is popular with golfers so you need to book up well in advance. I'm more of the Mark Twain "a good walk spoiled" school of thought when it comes to golf, but apparently it's quite the thing around North Berwick. Our room was on the top floor at the front, and was spacious and well-appointed with all the usual accoutrements. Being on the street side, there was a fair bit of traffic noise, but then we did have the windows wide open as it was so hot (yes, Scotland has been known to get quite warm at times!). The en-suite was large, and had a deep bath with a good shower - although the shower curtain did seem overly long and you couldn't avoid standing on it if it was inside the bath. Breakfast was pretty epic. We had smoked salmon with scrambled egg the first day, the salmon being wrapped round the eggs to make a cylindrical pancake. On the second day I had the full veggie, with sausage, haggis, poached eggs, beans, mushrooms and tattie scone - again all artfully arranged in a pile. Our one evening meal was of course based around the lobster option. It's not cheap, but we both splurged on the whole lobster at £39.95. I had avocado sushi to start, which in retrospect was probably a mistake as it disappeared in 3 bites. Herself went for the 1/2 kilo of West Coast rope-grown mussels, which seemed a better choice. I was impressed to see a vegan option of Key Lime pie on the dessert menu, which was just the right lightness to top off the lobster. There were one or two very minor issues, both with room maintenance and with service so I'm only giving it four stars; but it's a family-run hotel and they are all very dedicated to providing a good experience, which it certainly was. There is a warm homely atmosphere to the place and the staff were all very friendly despite how busy it was. We both really enjoyed our stay and would happily stay again.

I just returned from a November visit to this resort. I read before my trip some negative reviews…read moreon some other review sites, so I want to provide a different perspective. I majority of the reviews I read about this resort concerned the drafty cottages and the cost of electricity. Obviously November gave us our share of cold weather, and I am happy to say that our cottage was very comfortable. The cottage was freezing when we arrived, but the staff member who showed us around showed us where the radiators were and how to control them as well as providing advice on running them economically. The unit heated up very quickly. The extra cost for electricity at the end of the week was about £50 which was much less than the amounts suggested by other reviewers. We ate at the cottage at least 1 cooked meal per day and kept the cottage comfortably warm. The furniture and layout of the cottage was very nice and provides good accommodation for up to 3 couples. We only ate at the Linsey room 1 night but the experience was very good and I will enjoy memories of that evening for a long time to come. When we made reservations for the meal we were told that we would be seated at a table with other people. When we got there it was a banquet table with about 25 others. The atmosphere was good and we were encouraged to meet other guests. The food was good and then to our surprise an entertainer showed up. The person was a very good singer, singing traditional Scottish tunes as well as being quite the comedian. I may not have signed up for this event if I had known all that was involved, but I can tell you that I thoroughly enjoyed it. Over all this resort was wonderful, and provided us with an extremely relaxing holiday. If I could change anything I would ask that the resort provide a few condiments in the kitchen. Overall I highly recommend this resort.
