Took the teenagers to the Golf Inn, and got a table in the bar area of this 'tardis' like place now under new ownership. As the name suggests, this hotel is in the heart of Scotland's golf riviera with so many courses along the east Lothian coastline. Photos of golfers past line the walls of the bar and for those of us of who cling on to the last moments of our 40s, seeing pics of Lee Trevino, Jack, Tom, and the rest bring back happy memories of many A Round With Alliss. Anyway, I chose the asparagus whilst the cost centres both chose haggis balls. Crunchy tips, served with piccalilli, an egg, Parmesan crisps with shavings. Great combo and taste, personally would have preferred both egg and asparagus a little bit warmer but beautifully presented. For mains, H chose the beef which looked great but he was hungry so didn't get to try! As 14 year old boys go, two smiles and a 'yeah good' constitutes a five star commendation. E chose the burger. And between saying hello to all her co workers as i think we now call colleagues, enjoyed it. I went for the battered haddock and chips. Fish and batter were both really fresh, I would have liked a bit more minted mushy peas than the dainty pot that you get but a little bucket of Jenga style chips made up for the shortfall in peas. I don't do desserts given my health regime - so I ordered the Pain Perdu with macerated apricots and chantilly cream! E and H both had warm cookie and ice cream. Service was attentive but not in your face which is my preference. So to sum up, enjoyed the evening. Will try restaurant, if I'm organised to try and get ahead of the waiting list for Saturdays I seem to have hit a few times now that is. Less Pringle in there it appeared. read more
